Hello!! My name is Grace Hodges, I am a third year Interior Design student at Appalachian State University. I will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design in May 2023. After college, I hope to put the skills I have gathered from the program to use with a position at a residential design firm. I am a firm believer that our homes represent who we are and I want to help others achieve a space that they will love to live in.

Residential Design Second Year Studio Project Description
The objective of this project was to create a home for a non-traditional family with a handicapped family member. ADA had to be implemented into the design by including ramps, an elevator, and appropriate sized walkways. The project had a strong focus into proper kitchen and bath design.
1
Concept
The concept for this project was “Cool Autumn”. The concept represented the house, the location, and the clients. The home is located in Asheville, NC which is known for having beautiful autumns. The goal for this design was to capture the beauty of autumn. Autumn is known to symbolize tradition and is a time of year to reflect on the past, it also signifies change. The ides of tradition and change represent the homeowners. The family of four recently moved the mother’s mother into their home due to aging. This change in the family and living dynamic needed to be represented in the concept. The design goal was to mix traditional and modern elements to represent the change happening in the family.
