“Presenting Jesus: A Light for Revelation to All People” A Message from The Rector The Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph brought Jesus to Jerusalem to present him before God in the temple. Faithful Simeon, who trusted God would make all things new through a Messiah for himself and Israel, before his death, took our Lord in his arms and said, “Master, now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles and for glory to your people Israel." Come as you are able to Grace-St. Luke’s on February 2 (8:00, 10:30, 5:30) to praise God for the light, hope, and healing of Jesus, our “way” on the journey. Organ Recital followed by Evensong (Feb. 9) All are invited to a 5 p.m. recital by Dr. Patrick A. Scott, GSL Director of Music and Organist, before 5:30 Choral Evensong with Holy Eucharist. The recital will include Johann Sebastian Bach’s Gigue Fugue, Paul Halley’s Outer Hebrides (Fantasia on three Celtic melodies), Gerre Hancock's Improvisation on St. Clement (The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended), and Max Reger’s Toccata & Fuga, from Op. 59. The Clergy and the Grace-St. Luke’s Choir will lead the 45-minute intentional time to come away from the busy-ness of life to meditate on scripture and to spend time in quiet prayer, while listening to and participating in music (hymns). During the retiring procession of the choir, worshippers wishing to stay for a 15-minute spoken Holy Eucharist will be invited to move closer to the altar and be seated in the choir or nave pews. Spread the word and bring a guest. To read more about evensong at GSL, visit www.gracestlukes.org/news/evensong-with-eucharist-gsl-winterspring-2020.

Women's Retreat (Feb. 21-22) This year, we are delighted that the Rev. Katherine Bush and Mrs. Shari Ray will bring the themes of their popular class “The Meaning of Life” from St. Mary’s Episcopal School to the GSL Women’s Retreat. You can look forward to great conversations about how we make meaning as we move through our daily work, our struggles, our relationships, and seek out more joy in our lives. We’ll read a little, write a little, talk a lot, and have a great time together. And of course, there will be plenty of time to rest, experience fellowship, and enjoy the beautiful grounds of St. Columba. The retreat will take place February 21 (approx. 5 p.m.) until February 23 (approx. 11 a.m.) at St. Columba Retreat Center just outside of Memphis. Cost is $150. Please register by February 18 at the following link: www.gracestlukes.org/events/womens-retreat.
