Parish Hall Forum with Dr. Mitzi Minor Memphis Theological Seminary Professor, Dr. Mitzi Minor will help us to explore even more

deeply the gift of hope in the resurrection of Jesus. Christians often speak of believing in resurrection without unpacking what it is and what it did for followers of Jesus. It was a “game changer” for the world. How did it open their eyes? What did it do for their lives? How might we practice resurrection today? Join us for "Hope in Scripture: Practice Resurrection. Join us in Trezevant Hall for breakfast at 8:45 a.m. followed by the Parish Hall Forum from 9:3010:20.

Upcoming Events

Youth Sunday (May 12) In observance of Youth Sunday, when we celebrate our youth formation ministry and honor our seniors, the sermon will be offered at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. services by a member of our youth community, Joanna McCall.

Choral Evensong (May 12)

Sunday, May 12, at 5:30 p.m., a service of evensong will be presented jointly by the Canterbury Choir of Grace-St. Luke’s and the Boys and Girls Choir of Calvary Episcopal Church. Evensong is The Book of Common Prayer’s service of Evening Prayer (from the Daily Office) led by a choir with assistance from other lay ministers and a member of the clergy. The 30 to 45 minute service is an intentional time to come away from the busy-ness of life to meditate on scripture and to spend time in quiet prayer, while listening to and participating in music. The music selected for choir and congregation seeks to bring worshippers into deeper understanding of the mysteries of faith. If you plan to attend, spread the word, and bring others.

Belvedere Chamber Music Festival The thirteenth annual Belvedere Chamber Music Festival will be presented at Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church June 19-22. Performers are members of the Luna Nova Ensemble and guest artists from around the country. We have been very fortunate over the years to have host families house our out of town participants. We need a few more host families for this year’s festival. Students will be in Memphis June 19-22 and ensemble members from June 16-22. All of their meals and transportation will be taken care of and they will be involved with Festival activities during the day. Please contact Patricia Gray at pgray at pgray.net or call 901-493-0958 if you are able to help with this. Click for more: www.gracestlukes.org/news/belvedere-chamber-music-festival/

Congregational Life Survey On behalf of the vestry, treasurer, clergy, and staff, I wish to express my profound appreciation for the countless gifts of time, talent, and treasure that have been offered to support life at Grace-St. Luke’s, and to ask for your participation in a Congregational Life Survey. Currently, plans are underway for parish worship opportunities, formation programs, events, and outreach for Summer 2019 through Spring 2020 to nurture the spiritual journeys of parishioners and future parishioners. Your offering of feedback will be key to our process. Please complete this online 5minute survey: www.surveymonkey.com/r/EasterSurvey2019. –The Rev. Ollie V. Rencher

The Use of “Enriching Our Worship” during Eastertide The General Convention of the Episcopal Church (1997) authorized Enriching Our Worship as one of the Supplemental Liturgical Materials to the Book of Common Prayer, in keeping with our Church’s continual seeking of an authorized language of Common Prayer capable of expressing what we believe about God, as well as reflecting on our own corporate and individual relationship to the Godhead. This supplement is not intended to supplant the Book of Common Prayer, but rather to provide additional resources to assist worshiping communities wishing to expand the language, images and metaphors used in worship. Enriching Our Worship liturgies will be used occasionally during certain seasons in life at GSL.
