News for our Parish Community

This Week and Beyond

GSL Night at the Levitt Shell Join GSL parish THIS EVENING, Thursday, Sept. 12, in Overton Park for GSL Night at the Levitt Shell. We will gather at 6:30 p.m. for food and fellowship and local musician Rob Baird will perform at 7. GSL is a show sponsor, so look for us at one of the pavilions nearest the entrance to the venue. We will provide beverages & light bites, but please bring a snack to share. Food trucks will also be available to purchase additional treats. This all-ages event is sure to be a blast, so bring your family, friends, and neighbors!

Parish Hall Forum (Sept. 15) Memphis at 200 with Dr. Tim Huebner (Session I) Join us in Trezevant Hall for breakfast beginning at 8:45 and stay for the Parish Hall Forum at 9:15 a.m. This year marks the bicentennial of the founding of Memphis. But what does the history of Memphis have to do with how we live as people of faith in our community? Join Dr. Tim Huebner, Calvary Church parishioner and Professor of History at Rhodes College, as he explores the deep and long history of Memphis. In this two-part session, we’ll think about how the city’s history—particularly its history of race relations —challenges us to envision a greater Memphis as we begin our third century. and do as much or as little as they want. Please note: this year we have 2 awesome adults-only lodging options: The Inn and The Cottage, as well as the cabins which are for adults and children. For more info AND to sign up, visit www.gracestlukes.org/events/parish-weekend/.

Third Thursday (Sept. 19) The Third Thursday Fellowship will have its first fall dinner on Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. in Trezevant Hall. This group is for adults of all ages and is an excellent way to get to know other GSL members in a relaxed social environment. The evening begins with a social time at 6 p.m. followed by a dinner and an interesting speaker. This month we will welcome Josh Spickler, the Executive Director of Just City, a non profit dedicated to criminal justice reform. The dinner is $20 and reservations may be made with Lucy Owens in the church office (lowens@gracestlukes.org, 901-252-6333) or online at www.gracestlukes.org/events/thirdthursday. Come join us!

Calling All Young Adults (Sept. 19) Join us for The Episcopal Church 101 Class and Dinner, Thursday, Sept. 19, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. This will be a laid back evening of learning more about The Episcopal Church. Ever wondered where all the vestments live? Or what’s inside the niche in the wall of the Sanctuary? We will gather at 5:30 in the church for a tour of the worship space and a time of Q&A. After a short service of Compline, we will travel together to Huey’s midtown for dinner.

Becoming Beloved Community (Sept. 18, 25, & Oct. 2) The Becoming Beloved Community (BBC) program provides resources for those seeking racial healing, reconciliation, and justice through interrelated commitments to: telling the truth (about our churches and race); proclaiming the dream (of beloved community); practicing the way (of love in the power of Jesus; and repairing the breach (in society and institutions). GSL Church and School adults and youth are invited to participate by registering for this fourweek, curriculum-based class (6-7:30 p.m. in Trezevant Hall) facilitated by the Rev. Ollie V. Rencher, Rector. Sign up by following this link: https://tinyurl.com/GSLBecoming.
