53rd German-American Volksfest Grafenwoehr Celebrate the GermanAmerican Volksfest three days-long Story by

Renate Gradl GRAFENWOEHR, Germany Grafenwoehr. Once again, the U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr is inviting the entire population to celebrate the German-American Volksfest on Grafenwoehr Training Area. The fest takes place from July 30 to August 1, 2010 statt. The fest is opens on July 30 and 31 from 11 a.m. to midnight and on August 1 from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The fest area at Camp Kasserine offers visitors a large variety of rides and more than 100 booths selling souvenirs, gifts and an international assortment of food ranging from American ice cream, barbeque ribs, tacos, nachos, chili, corn-on-the-cob, barbeque chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers and steaks to baked potatoes, gyros, smoked fish and egg rolls. Like every year, the U.S. and German Armies host a static display of weapons systems and equipmente. Veronika Gagelmann GRAFENWOEHR, Germany Upon our arrival at Grafenwoehr Training Area, we can already hear the fantastic sound of the band’s sound check from far away. We are immediately excited and look forward to the concert that will follow later. Relaxed and in a good mood – just like he was on stage with his guitar earlier – Gary Sinise arrives for the interview. He smiles at us in a friendly way and answers all our questions in detail. Gary has been to Germany a few times before and like Grafenwoehr also visited the U.S. military installations at Landstuhl and Ramstein. The night before, after his arrival at Grafenwoehr, he had dinner at the Kahrmühle restaurant. Often, when he plays with his band, he does not have a lot of time to do things off post. That he is playing in Grafenwoehr today on July 4 is a coincidence. The concert organizer, the United Services Organization (USO), puts the schedule together. When Gary began to support U.S. troops with his visits in 2002, the idea for the band came up immediately. He emphasizes many times that he only wants to entertain people with his music rather than just providing them with consoling words. Apart from the soldiers, who often need special care after deployments, he also wants to lift up the spirits of their family members and give something back to the people

for the often difficult missions they go on in support of their homeland.

Lt. Dan alias Gary Sinise and still today talk to him about his movie role. Gary took it a step further when he started a charity project for children after he had been in Iraq for the first time in 2003. There he saw that the kids had practically nothing and were lacking basic things such as toys and school supplies. That prompted him to start his charity project. The project which was originally called “operationiraqichildren.org“ has since turned into an international charity project known as “operationinternationalchildren.org“ and does not only take care of needy children in Iraq but also in other war-

Based upon his unforgotten movie character in “Forrest Gump,“ the band was soon named “Lt. Dan Band.“ His alter ego in the movie fights his way back into life after losing both his legs with the help of Forrest Gump. He could not have done it without his support. While Gary played a fighter in the movie, people now see him in the role of a supporter. Many soldiers, especially those who also have to live with a handicap after returning from a deployment, identify themselves with

torn countries such as Afghanistan and Djibouti. For Gary, this is a way of showing honest American friendship. He does not want to tour with his band forever but is currently planning for an additional six years. To do that, he solely focuses on TV these days. With the exception of 11 weeks every year during which he is on tour with his band, all he does is play on the TV series “CSI New York.“ He has little time left for his family which is why he takes them on his annual tour. Although he personally prefers to listen to jazz music, his band with its many excellent singers plays a mix of rock, pop, country, soul and music from the 1940s which brought joy to a lot of people on July 4, 2010.

Amberg across the small lake which is supplied with water from the Kurfürsten spring and offers an excellent place for refreshment with its small beach. Nürnberg – where the Middle Ages are alive Story by

Susanne Williams NÜRNBERG, Germany - A visit to Nürnberg, the most beautiful city in Central Franconia, is always worth your while. There is no city that is more beautiful or diverse. Red sandstone buildings and half-timbered houses define the look of the center of the medieval old town. The small lanes invite you for a stroll. On the Hauptmarkt (main market place) visitors can admire the 19 metertall Gothic fountain sculpture which is richly decorated with historic and allegoric characters. The so-called Schöne Brunnen (beautiful fountain) was built 1385–1396 by Heinrich Beheim. Over the years, it has been renovated and rebuilt a couple of times. Today, you see a nearly one-hundred yearold, colorfully decorated copy made of shell limestone on the Hauptmarkt. The few remaining parts of the original fountain are on display at the German National Museum (restored 1899–1903 by Heinrich Walraff it was rebuilt in its current form 1912 based upon the weathered Gothic original). During World War II, the Schöne Brunnen was protected by a concrete encasement and therefore survived the bombardments without getting harmed. The forty colorful characters, displayed on four stories, portray the way in which people perceived the world during the Holy Roman Reich. Well-known are the turning rings in two of the eight grates (made in 1587 by Paulus Kühn from Augsburg) which fence in the fountain. It is unknown when the original rings were installed but they were replaced many times over the years and today’s ring on the south-western side dates back to the year 1957 whereas the second ring,

The Kaiserburg is the emblem of the town. made of iron, on the north-eastern side was inserted in 1902 and has been there ever since. The brass ring is considered a good luck charm. The legend says that if you turn it, you will have many children. The old town hall with its windowless prison cells in the basement is nearby, east of St. Sebald Church. From the west, the town hall is still an impressive baroque building built by the architect Jakob Wolff the Younger although it had to be largely rebuilt after 1945 (in the course of that it was downsized by two window rows). An originally Gothic hall is integrated into the building’s southern part. The building is a mixture of a renaissance palace and local architecture of the 14th century. Visitors should not miss the old meeting room of the town hall and the historic prison cells. Then follow the street up to the Castle Mountain where the impressive Emperor’s Castle is majestically loca-

ted. From 1050 to 1571, all German emperors of the Holy Roman Reich temporarily resided there which made the castle one of the most important emperor’s fortresses of the Middle Ages. It was generously expanded by Friedrich Barbarossa and his successors. The emperor’s rooms in the palace with their mostly preserved wood paneling are richly decorated with paintings, tapestries and furniture from the 16trh and 17th century. The castle‘s large chapel has remained undamaged. The Tiefe Brunnen (deep fountain), which also belongs to the castle, was first mentioned in the 14th century but is most likely as old as the castle itself. With its 47 meter-deep well shaft it was the most important water source for the castle during the times of the sieges. The Sinwell Tower, the most famous landmark of the castle, is located in the castle’s inner courtyard. If you are not afraid of the many steps to the top, you can enjoy a fantastic view over Nürnberg. The Sinwell Tower (after the middle-high German word

sinwell = round, around) was built in the second half of the 13th century and originally was the castle’s donjon. During the Reichstag meetings, the hours were proclaimed from its roof with a tin horn. Here you can also visit a branch of the German National Museum featuring the weapons‘ department and a display about the history of the castle. If you need to recuperate after seeing so many historic treasures, you should definitely stop at one of the many historic Bratwurst kitchens in which even the famous German painter Albrecht Dürer and his contemporaries ate. True Nürnberger bratwursts weigh exactly 25 grams and at least come in threes and here you can taste them in all kinds of varieties: classically roasted, with kraut and kren (horse-radish), or as socalled Blaue Zipfel (blue tails), cooked in an onion broth. But Nürnberg has more to offer as far as the culinary arts are concerned. In 1485, the first German cookbook was published here. The Franconian kitchen is rich in varieties and “honest.” Simple, home-made dishes like Schäufala (highly recommended. You can enjoy one of the well-tasting beers from Tucherbräu Brewery with it, the only Nürnberg brewery founded in the Middle Ages that still is in business today. And the area around the castle with its many pubs is a perfect place for a night on the town. There are many popular fests year round that offer you a great opportunity to get a taste of Nürnberg. They are the Spargelmarkt (asparagus market) in May, the Wine fest in June, the Altstadtfest (old town fest) in September, or the Fish Days in the fall. chen“ (gingerbread). They are a Christmas specialty who bring back a lot of childhood memories with their spicy flavor and great taste. One of the youngest fountains in Nürnberg‘s history is the Marriage Carousel or Marriage Fountain (Ehekarussell) which was put up in 1984 on the square in front of the Weiße Turm (white tower). It is Europe’s largest 20th century fountain featuring characters. The Marriage Carousel Fountain, whose real name is HansSachs-Fountain, was commissioned by the city of Nürnberg. It was built from 1977 to 1981 by sculptor Jürgen Weber and put up in 1984. It is made of painted bronze characters, set on colored marble. Based upon the poem “The Bittersweet Married Life,“ that poet Hans Sachs wrote for his wife, the fountain portrays the ups and downs of marriage in six different pictures, ranging from the first years of passionate love to marital conflicts and death. Poet Hans Sachs himself can be seen on a pedestal as well. The Marriage Fountain is located directly in the center of Nürnberg’s shopping district, the pedestrian zone at Karolinenstraße and Breiten Gasse, that invites you on a relaxing shopping spree. You should also visit the Nürnberg State Theater, originally known as the Nürnberg Opera. The Art Nouveau building was built from 1903 to 1905 by theater architect Heinrich Seeling and dominates the city’s silhouette. It was opened on September 1, 1905 with a performance in the “New Building“ which also included the musical piece “Festwiese“ from Richard Wagner’s opera “The Meistersinger of Nürnberg.” In 1935/36 the interior was redecorated by Paul Schultze-Naumburg and in 1945 it was hit by bombs. After it had been rebuilt, it was used by the United States Army as a movie theater and theater. It became an opera house again in 1956. Performances include opera, operetta, classic music, musicals, children’s concerts, chamber music concerts (in the Art Nouveau foyer) as well as recitals. Most of the historic part of the building, that was completely renovated in 1998, has been preserved. It features a main auditorium with a ground floor and three balconies with more than 1,000 seats as well as break rooms and a foyer. Since 2003, it is called “State Theater“ again. Many interesting museums invite visitors on a journey through time. At the Spielzeugmuseum (toy museum) kids and adults can enjoy an exhibition of old and new toys from around the world. lot of traveling exhibitions covering interesting topics. Nürnberg‘s history of two-wheeled vehicles is documented at the Museum Industriekultur (industrial culture). Brands such as Triumph, Victoria, Zündapp, Mars and Hecker still make a biker’s lovers heart pound violently today. The railroad worls at the Traffic Museum (Verkehrsmuseum) makes a child’s dream come true. It features a large model railroad with real rqailway control centers and old handcars to touch and use. You can also see trains ranging from a replica of the legendary “Adler“ to modern steam locomotives and ICE trains. History comes to life at the AlbrechtDürer-House at the foot of the castle mountain. The famous painter Albrecht Dürer lived and worked here from 1509 to 1528. Agnes Dürer, the wife of this famous “son of the city“ takes visitors through this “living museum” today. Parts of the Sebald old town feature tunnels that were built in the 14th century. For many centuries, a variety of vaults and tunnels were cut into the stone below Nürnberg, creating a fascinating maze of shiny colored sandstone. This unique system of stone cellars was first mentioned in a document from 1380 and was used for centuries to ferment and brew beer. Today, a small portion of the cellars is used to brew the beer specialties of the Altstadthof Brewery which you can tour. After the tour, you can taste the

If you visit the Handwerkerhof (artisans’ court) you are entering a nostalgic part of Nürnberg with artisans‘ shops, stores, a gingerbread bakery, a Bratwurst kitchen and much more. It was built in 1971 as an attraction for tourists in the so-called “Waffenhof“ (weapons’ court) of the Frauentor (women’s gate) of the Nürnberg’s former city wall. It is located at “Königstor“ (King’s gate) and with that along the route pedestrians take when walking from the main train station to Nürnberg’s traditional tourist attractions. The city wall is one of Nürnberg’s most famous buildings and pieces of art. In the north, the spacious castle is fully integrated into the wall. The first fortifications are said to have been built in the 11th century. In the 13th century, the parts of the town located on both sides of the Pegnitz river and the Sebalder and Lorenzer subdivisions each had their own walls. The Laufer Tower in the north, located in the Sebalder part of town, in-between the castle and the Tiergärtner Gate, has remained. In the west of the old town, in the Lorenzer part of town, the Weiße Turm is left. It wasn’t until 1320–1325 that both parts of town were connected by a wall leading across the river. In the west, the

Henkerturm (hangman tower) and the Wasserturm (water tower) can still be seen as well as the Schuldturm (debt tower) on Schütt Island in the east. The last wall around the city was closed in 1400. It was five kilometers long and looked like a crooked parallelogram. Four towers were built at its four corners. Although widely restored and rebuilt, the city wall has almost completely been preserved and encloses the old town. The largest gap, 310 meters wide, is located at the Laufer Torturm (gate tower). The preservation of the wall is an on-going process. There are public walkways behind, on and in front of the wall and in the partially preserved moat. The huge bastions west and north of the castle have been turned into gardens and open to the public in the summer months. A visit to this diverse metropolitan city is definitely a “must“ and will definitely be an exciting experience. You can conveniently reach Nürnberg from Vilseck or Pressath by train. The trip to Nürnberg goes through the beautiful landscape of the Hersbrucker Schweiz region and is quite an experience! The medieval fire spectacle, a knights‘ tournament by night, takes place every year at Schloss Thurn adventure park on each Saturday in August. You are also in the center of the action when visiting the western town where the daring stunt men of the western show cause lots of action. In front of a very realistic scenery with an authentic saloon and true to original houses, the western heroes fight an exciting fight for law and order in town. Aaaaahhhhhh: When the family roller coaster speeds downhill, children’s heart start pounding and the most laughter is heard in the wild water slide when dad or grandpa get a little bit wet! which is what gave Thurn castle its name: a knight’s tower mansion. In 1738, the capitulars of Bamberg, the ancestors of the current castle‘s owner Benedikt Count of Bentzel, bought the castle and its land from the church. In the following eight years, architect Michael Küchel, a student of Baltasar Neumann, converted the building into the baroque moat castle that we are so impressed by today. The castle has been owned by the family for 250 years. In 1973, Johann Friedrich Count of Bentzel Sturmfeder-Horneck, the father of Benedikt Count of Bentzel, had the idea to build an adventure park around the castle which opened in 1975. In those days, the adventure park consisted of a small western town and a deer enclosure. There were also leopards and other exotic animals, which were sold in the late 1980s because it was believed that a zoo was a better home for such species.

Beautiful palaces and castles in our region Story by

Stephan Bernhardt The most recent famous castle owner was probably Nicolas Cage who bought Neidstein Castle near Amberg-Sulzbach in 2006. He paid about two million Euro for it but sold the palace again in March 2009. A visit to Neidstein Castle is not possible because the new owner doesn´t allow it. The first castles of the Oberpfalz were built in the early 11th century to rule the land and to collect taxes. The Oberpfalz is the part of Bavaria with most castles. Castle Falkenstein thrones over the town of Falkenstein on a tall hill. Although the construction work already started in 1074, the castle is one of the best preserved castles of the Oberpfalz. Castle Falkenstein is located in the Bavarian Forest between Regensburg and Cham. It is open every day and the entrance fee to the main castle is 50 Cent. Falkenstein also offers a hunting museum. It is even possible to arrange weddings, or a medieval banquet including medieval entertainment for up to 45 people, but you need a reservation for both events. The city, which was founded by the Romans, has been one of the richest and most important cities of the Holy German Empire for about 700 years. That’s why there are a lot of old historical buildings to see like the Palace of Thurn and Taxis. Some members of the Thurn und Taxis family are still living in the palace, which is quite unusual for

Originally, the Palace of Thurn and Taxis was a monastery and was completed in 1812. The entrance to the baroque styled church is free. The palace itself and the monastery can only be visited in a guided tour several times a day at the expense of 11,50 €. You can also have a look at the treasury and the museum for 4,50 €. Audio guides are available in many languages, including English, of course. Other highlights of the season are the summer plays, or the Christmas Market. The family of Thurn and Taxis is an old German noble family that got rich because they owned the only post company. Later, they also founded a famous brewery of the same name. Both families, the Thurns and the Taxis, have originally been living in Italy, but in 1650 they were allowed to call themselves a member of the German high nobility. KEMNATH, Germany - With the first rays of sun, a new season begins for the model airplane club of Kemnath. The „pilots“ leave the multipurpose hall of Kemnath, where very small, light and maneuverable model airplanes are used in winter, and change to their preferred location, the airfield for model planes in Kuchenreuth near Kemnath.

There they are allowed to use the big toys. Most “pilots“ test their skills in sunny weather and on the weekends. The club counts 55 model makers at the moment. The club was founded in 1981. The committee, which is chaired by Wolfgang Heidler, welcomes beginners heartily. It is also possible to watch the „pilots“ perform their loops and other tricks.There is only one condition if you want to fly a model airplane yourself: a special insurance.

There´s no picture on which Lena Meyer-Landrut, winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, doesn´t wear a simple black pendant which is shaped both like a cross and a dove. But what does it mean? This jewelry called Taizé-cross is the best-known symbol of the monastery of Taizé in the northeast of France. Every year, around 6,000 young people from all over the world visit this community, spend one week with like-minded people to get new insights about themselves and their faith by talking, singing and just having fun together, or by enjoying the chilled and calming atmosphere. The ecumenical brotherhood was founded by Roger Schutz in 1949. He was a theology student who looked after refugees of World War I. As a result, The “Communauté de Taizé” was founded. In the following years, many other monks joined “Frère Roger`s” order. Since the 1960s it has become popular with young people to visit the monastery and to live together with the brothers for a while. Even the murder of Frère Roger by a brainsick Romanian in 2005 couldn´t stop the large number of young people from coming to visit Taizé every year. This is due to the special atmosphere

of this place that can be felt everywhere: during the five to ten minutes of silence during the church service, during the collective meals, where total strangers just sit together and talk like best friends, if somebody walks around and distributes free hugs, or when a person starts to sing a Taizé-song and five others standing around just join in. But the most important reason to come to Taizé is the religious aspect. Every morning there are introductions to the bible given by the monks. Afterwards people sit together in little groups to talk about the bible texts, or their own lives. Ekkehard de Fallois, vicar and continuous Taizé-visitor says: “A musthave for every Taizé-pilgrim are the Taizé-crosses of which at least three are bought by each visitor.” These crosses – as well as other souvenirs like musicsheets, Taizé-stools or pottery - are made and sold by the monks. That´s the only way they make their living because they don´t accept donations of any kind, or let alone any heritage. Having once been in Taizé, you will surely return there for a second, third or fourth time, or even annually. You simply can’t miss the amazing community spirit. Or as Lena Meyer-Landrut described it: “It isn´t a feeling you have known before. It´s the Taizé-feeling - a huge amount of happiness.”

Enjoy nature and discover culture in Eschenbach ESCHENBACH, Germany - In and around Eschenbach there are plenty of opportunities to spend your free time and to have a lot of fun. On a hot summer day, for example, you can go to “Kleiner Rußweiher”. You can swim in it or relax on the big lawn. You can also ride in a pedal-boat or pass your time playing volleyball. Don’t worry about the mud on the ground, it is even said to be healthy.

is about 27ha in size. There are a lot of fish in the pond, the likeliest one to find, however, is the carp, being the most typical fish of the region. When up to 20,000 kg of fish are taken out every year in autumn, many people come to watch. You can even discover the “Rußweiher” by bike. A special cycle path leads around the lake. Next to the “Rußweiher” you can find a guesthouse named “Camping- und Freizeitanlage Rodler”. In its garden you can play miniature golf, eat icecream and relax.

Families with younger children are more than welcome. There are also some toys for them, so it won’t be boring. For families with kids, a low entrance fee is important. Rußweiher is therefore ideal because the fee is only 1 euro for a child under the age of 14. People older than 14 have to pay 1.80 euro. There are also some options to get a lower price, for example, if you buy an annual season-ticket. If you are interested in fishing, you are welcome to join the fishing club.

A lake called “Großer Rußweiher” is right behind the “Kleiner Rußweiher”. Around it, many unusual and endangered birds like the black-headed gull can be seen. This area is part of the “Nördliche Oberpfälzer Wald” and it is a conservation area, protecting rare animals and plants. That is why a long trail around the pond was constructed to show the beauty of the local nature. If you take a walk around the pond, you should stay on the trail so as not to disturb the fauna. Christopher Farago WACKERSDORF, Germany - Michael Schumacher, the most famous race driver in the world, excites and fascinates spectators and fans of Formula 1 again and again. The professional, who claimed the racing throne for the longest time in succession, is, of course, an influential role model for many fans. This creates questions like, when and where one can drive at full throttle like the champion. The answer: The Pro Kart Raceland in Wackersdorf. The facility contains an outdoor track with a length of more than half a mile and an indoor track with a length of six hundred meters. This makes it one of the biggest Go-Kart-Racetracks in Germany. The outdoor track is a very fast course with extensive long runoff zones for safety reasons. The width is between nine and twelve meters. A specialty is a jumping hill and a very fast sharp curve. A specific water disposal system and a special asphalt surface on the tracks result in a maximum grip and guarantee that there are no limits for Go-KartFanatics. Furthermore special effects like fog machines, stroboskopes and a disco light installation create additional interest on the indoor track. Another highlight is the connection between both tracks thus creating two kilometers of gigantic racing fun. No matter if you use a borrowed Go Kart or your private one, you can enjoy this great racing sport at. Everybody can feel like a race driver for ten minu-

GRAFENWOEHR, Germany - In August of 2009 the spark of an idea came out; build a football team in Grafenwöhr. On July 4, 2010 the spark became a raging fire when the newly formed football team, the Grafenwöhr Griffins, took to the field for their first game in franchise history. The Griffins travelled to Neu Ulm (Southwest Bavaria) to face the Barracudas, a team whose roots reach back to the early 90s. The Griffins won the coin toss and elected to receive. The kick-off was

returned by the Griffins to the Barracudas 30-yard line. Three plays later, Rolling Thunder (nickname of the offense) were celebrating their first Touchdown. RB Xavier Redding ran a 12 yard sweep into the endzone for his first of three TDs on the day. The extra point attempt was missed so the Griffins took a 6-0 lead after less than two minutes of play. The rest of the first half cooled down as the Griffins defense never allowed the Barracudas to leave their own half of the field. The offense though would march regularly downfield, but due to a rash of Center-Quarterback exchange mistakes, they could not punch the ball into the endzone, leaving the halftime score at 6-0. The defense set the tone for the second half by hammering the Barracudas to minus yards on their first drive and stopping a fake punt. Rolling Thun-

der scored on the second play of their possession with a beautiful 30 yard run from FB Philipp Butz right up the middle of the Barracuda defense. After the successful extra point, the Griffins led by a score of 13-0. The 3rd quarter also saw receiver, Alvin Burden run a 22-yard reverse in for a score, which finished the 3rd quarter up at 20-0. The beginning of the 4th quarter the Barracudas crossed the 50 yard line for the first and only time that day. The Barracudas were able to score a TD and convert a two pt play. Rolling Thunder tacked on two more touchdowns from RB Redding and was set to close out the game with a 34-8 win when the Barracudas threw an interception to LB Dechant who returned it 48 yards for the final score of the day. The Griffin defense ended the day allowing only four 1st downs, three interception (one for a TD), and not

allowing the Barracudas to cross the 50 yard line more than once in the game. The Griffins next game is on July 11 in Passau versus the Pirates. On July 18, 2010 the Griffins will have their homecoming game when they host the Bayreuth Dragons. Harald Fraunholz OCHSENKOPF, Germany - Most hikers would not hike on those paths -- large stones, crevices, roots -- and yet, this is exactly the type of terrain every downhill mountain biker is dreaming of...... The downhill bikers almost look like roboters with their back protection, helmets and shin gueards. They meet at the valley station of the chair lift on the southern slope of the Ochsenkopf mountain in Fleckl. Large groups of bikers from all over Germany and the Czech Republic come to get the five minute-adrenaline kick on “Bullhead-Mountain“ in the Fichtelgebirge mountains. They fasten their heavy bikes onto the lift and reach the summit of the Ochsenkopf, 250 meters difference in altitude above them, within ten minutes. There is an almost contemplative silence in the lift; everybody is concentrating on a five minute peak performance. A small path and a few warning signs lead to the start of the route. Helmets and glasses on -- and down into the valley. Those who want to go down the more than two kilometers-long routes need skills, biking experience and some courage. The routes are full of mountain steps, jumps and north shores. However, there are always easier detours for the less skilled bikers. If you want to this downhill sports to become your hobby, you should participate in one of the downhill camps at Bullhead House where experienced downhill coaches teach you the right techniques. One of the reasons why the Ochsenkopf mountain has earned an excellent reputation among bikers is the “IXS Rookies Cup“ which was held this year for the third time on June 5-6. Every year, the race offers lots of speed and bike action for the spectators along the route.

Several projects are in the works to make the Ochsenkopf bike region even more attractive. Recently, a north shore bike fun park, a training course and a

cross-country trail for bikers on the Bullhead were finished and complement the Ochsenkopf Bike Park. The marked mountain bike routes around the mountain are to be expanded as well. Great prospects for bikers!

The Q5 is the performance SUV from Audi (Audi AG) The Q5 is the performance SUV from Audi. It combines the dynamics of a sports sedan with a highly variable cabin, making it the ideal companion for recreation and families – for active people.

Body and interior At 1.65 meters (5.41 ft), the Q5 is unusually low by SUV standards and has the sportiest proportions of any vehicle in its immediate class. Its elegant and sculptured design is typically Audi. The side view is marked by large wheels and ascending lines; the fluid roof contour emphasizes its lean appearance. The wrap-around tailgate is made of lightweight aluminum, as is the hood. The body integrates a large proportion of high-strength and ultra-high strength steel components that reduce the weight and improve rigidity, crash safety, and vibrations. There are three versions available for the add-on parts; Audi also offers attractive styling packages. There is plenty of interior space, and the luggage compartment’s base capacity of 540 liters (19.07 cubic ft) can be increased to an impressive 1,560 liters (55.09 cubic ft) by folding down the rear seatbacks. Audi can also deliver an optional rear bench seat, which features a load-through hatch and can be moved by 100 millimeters (3.94 in). Getting There Once you’ve reserved a place in a beer tent and donned your lederhosen or dirndl, it’s time to make your way to the fest, held at the Theresienwiese fest grounds in Munich, a short tram ride away from the city center. If you live in Bavaria, it’s probably easier to take the train to the Hauptbahnhof and avoid the parking expense and hassle altogether. If you think you’re lost, just follow the massive crowd of people wearing trachtenmode and you’ll eventually get to the fest grounds. Literally every tourist in Munich and a good percentage of the locals will be there for Oktoberfest, so it’s nearly impossible to get lost if you follow the crowd. Signs
