Fall Semester Sign-Ups

Music Lessons for Children & Adults: Piano & Violin Instruction

Lessons are offered for beginners, intermediate and advanced levels, ages 6 to adult. Instruction takes place in the Music Practice Room at the Crafts Tree. Fee is $240 for a 2 month lesson package. Garmisch Community Theater

One Act Play Festival: Theatre Auditions

September 24, 6 p.m. Community Theatre, Bldg. 262 Volunteer in one of various departments including acting, tech, set design, costumes and more. Give your acting skills a try in a short one act play, no experience is necessary. You can also direct or co-direct a one act play. If interested, contact The Crafts Tree to get started. Photography

Outdoor Portraits

For your next family portrait why not take your entire family out to your favorite Garmisch locations and have a professional photographer do an outdoor portrait session there! Lots of package variations are available. And, you can order a CD of your entire portrait sessions. We can also do professional studio pictures. Please book in advance. Wood Shop Classes

Learn how to build and repair wooden furniture. Adults only and by appointment. Prerequisite: Wood Shop Safety Class.

Knife Making

Join us on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons! Adults Only. Fee $45 (wood included, blade is extra).

Basics of Quilting

Sign up September 15 - October 15 Class runs over 4 evenings in November Learn the basic techniques of quilting by making a sampler of different blocks from start to finish. Fee: $85 (materials not included). Contact the Arts & Crafts Center for exact dates and times.

Crochet and Knitting Class

Crochet has become a popular pass time again! Learn it by starting out with a small project or dive in and take on a challenging one. Some ideas for easy projects include a beanie hat, a scarf, fingerless gloves, or a headband. You can also find more creative ideas online and bring them in to the class. Beginners are welcome! Fee: $32 for two 90-minute sessions. Call for dates and times.

Check out our special display celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Celebrate Your Freedom to Read September 22 - 28 Banned Books Week is an annual event highlighting the importance of access to free and open information, even if the information and ideas are considered unorthodox, unpopular, or even dangerous. Banned Books Week draws attention to the dangers of censorship. The “frequently challenged” books featured on our display during Banned Books Week have all been targeted for removal in libraries or schools for various reasons. You’ll be surprised at some of the books that have been banned and challenged throughout history. Exercise your rights! Checkout and read one of the books from our display and support your freedom to read.

Trail Running Monday & Wednesday, Noon Hatha Yoga Monday, 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays 5:30 p.m. Suitable for all skill levels. Stretch the whole body through basic Yoga postures and breathing techniques to calm and soothe the mind and body’s systems. You’ll leave feeling centered and balanced. Spin & Yoga Tuesday, 8:30 a.m. Combines cardio, strength and flexibility that will keep your body and brain totally engaged.

Day Trips Calendar of Events Fat Tire Spectacular and U.S. Forces Europe Mountain Bike Champion Series September 7 Now in its 28th year! Be a part of history and enter in the oldest mountain bike race in Germany! It’s also the U.S. Forces Europe Mountain Bike Championship Series, but you don’t have to be a part of the series to enter. It’s a fun course to ride with a little downhill and uphill terrain and challenging single track. A participant T-shirt, food and beverages are included. Cost: $20 Adults, $10 Children. Bavarian Beer Garden for Two September 8 Join us for a delicious Bavarian lunch of Weisswurst & Beer as we ride a historic 2-person gondola and hike to our next stop for another Bavarian tradition: coffee & kuchen! After enjoying our dessert, we will continue our hike down through the Partnach Gorge. For those who do not wish to hike, you can ride the self-operated gondola down! This is the ideal family outing. Cost: $40. Friday Night Torch Hike September 20 Our final torch hike of the season! We’ll take you on a hike near Oberammergau to the Kolbensattel. This is a great evening for families. Cost: $10 Adults, $5 Children. Concert Trips to Munich September 24 Visit one of the world’s greatest opera houses, Munich’s National Theater, and witness a brilliant classical concert with music by Honneger, Sibelius, and Schuman. Opera tickets can be arranged directly with the Outdoor Recreation staff. Cost: $12 for transportation. Special Live Theatrical Performance Trip to Munich September 26 Watch the theatrical performance Othello by William Shakespeare broadcast live from the National Theatre in London. Munich is one of the four theatres in Germany that offer this simulcast. Tickets to Munich’s National Theatre must be obtained separately and usually run around 18€. Cost: $12 Adults. Dinner in the Dark September 26 A once in a lifetime experience, dining in complete darkness! Your senses will be heightened in this culinary experience with a 4-course menu which includes aperitif, wine, water and coffee. Cost: $12 for transportation. Dinner will cost 69€ at the restaurant. Munich the Bright Tour October 3 This tour will offer the best sampling of highlights selected from as many as four churches, one rococo theatre, a few of the 500 fountains, and a different museum each time we go! Not to mention dining, but we will also eat in one of the really good Bavarian restaurants. Cost: $35 Adults. 6

Overnight Trips Calendar of Events Nuremberg Historic Getaway Weekend September 6 - 8 On your free time, visit the Toy Museum which celebrates its central position in the craft of making children’s toys. You can also visit the new Documentation Center for a history of the Nazis, or the German National Museum for cultural awareness. Cost: $250 Adults, $125 Children, $45 Single supplements per night. Cost includes transportation, accommodations and breakfast. Venice and Verona, Italy September 13 - 15 Passport is required. Cost: $299 Adults, $145 Children, $45 Single Supplement per night. Conquer the Zugspitze September 14 - 15 Hike through the Partnachklamm and Reintal Valley’s with our experienced Outdoor Recreation guide. Stay at the Reintalangerhuette, one of the most colorful huts in the Alps. On the second day we will continue up steeper slopes to the Zugspitzplatt, where the ski area is. From there you can call it a day, or scale up the rock “Klettersteig” to the cross. Cost: $149 Adults, $120 Children. Cost includes cable car, overnight with breakfast & dinner, hiking poles, harness, and hiking guide. Bardolino Lake Garda Weekend Getaway October 12 - 14 Enjoy a weekend of food, wine, bike tours and a beautiful lake side view. Nearby water and amusement parks can easily be reached with free shuttles from Peschiera. Cost: $235 Adults in double room. Cost includes accommodations, breakfast, dinner and drinks.
