Libraries have experienced tremendous changes in the past decades. Of course, we still have books, but loads more! Stop by and help us celebrate National Library Week and learn about some of the great resources you might not be familiar with. We’ll be demonstrating many of our online resources such as Overdrive for eBooks and eAudiobooks, Safari Books Online for technical books, Rosetta Stone for language learning and Morningstar Investment Center for financial advice and planning. Play a literary mixer game with us that will be fun for the whole family. We’re certain you can learn something new about the library even if you are a regular.

APRIL 23-30; FILM “PAPER CLIPS” APRIL 28, 3 P.M. In 1981, Congress established the Days of Remembrance as a national commemoration of the Holocaust so that “mankind will never lose memory of the terrible genocide” that occurred during World War II. On April 4, 1945, U.S. troops liberated the concentration camp Odruf, part of the Buchenwald network and Dachau on April 29, 1945. In remembrance of the holocaust, the library will show the movie “Paper Clips,” an award winning documentary about a project by students at Whitwell Middle School in Tennessee who decided to collect paperclips to better grasp and visualize the concept of 6 million victims of Hitler’s Nazi regime. The movie is rated G (grades 6 and up recommended).

APRIL 27, NOON-5 P.M. We’re celebrating poetry month in conjunction with National Library Week. So when you come to see all the great new resources we offer, be sure to bring a poem with you. If you don’t have a favorite one, we have plenty of poems here at the library to choose from, or better yet, make up your own. If you read or recite your poem to a staff member you can get a free homemade cookie!

MAY 23, 7 P.M. Dead Wake: the last crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson, is the riveting narrative nonfiction account of the sinking of the luxury ocean liner the Lusitania during WWI in May 1915. The story alternates between British and German military and civilian perspective, switching between the hunter and the hunted. This is a story everyone has heard about, but wait until you read all the fascinating details.

MUNICH: THE DARK TOUR

THERME ERDING - “WATER WORKS”

This is the most ambitious introduction to the dark period of Munich’s history offered by any tour company! The tour starts with a two and ½ hour video and lecture about the rise of the Third Reich under Adolf Hitler in the city of Munich. On the following Sunday, take the train to Munich and walk the route of the “Bier Hall Putsch” and see nearly everything associated with this darkest period of Munich’s history. Price: $45/adult

Erdinger Therme is the largest spa in Europe! Ever since Texaco went drilling for oil in Erding and discovered geo-thermal hot water instead, this town has become a destination for people who just want to enjoy the most relaxing day that they have ever experienced. The park has fourteen water slides (some of them longer than three American football fields), twenty-five saunas differing in temperature and humidity, massages, relaxation areas and pools of every description. Transportation included. Spa entry not included. Price: $15/adult

APRIL 14 & 16

THE GORGE AND POOL TOUR

APRIL 15 One of the most beautiful natural sights in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the Partnach Gorge. It is beautiful in every season and serves as our “mini Grand Canyon” without quite the influx of visitors! The Alpspitze Wellenbad is the town’s largest pool, and the best spa in the local area. There are three saunas, a steam bath, Jacuzzis, warm pools, cold pools, diving pools, an Olympic pool, salt pools, salt treatments, eating and drinking areas, a bar, numerous lounging areas, a “textile free area” and just about everything you might want to experience during the most relaxing day of your life. This 7 hour tour includes the walking tour and entrance to the pool and the gorge. Price: Gorge and Pool $30/person; Pool alone $26/person; Gorge alone $10/person; Children under 12 are ½ price
