GARMISCH HISTORIC WALKING TOUR

CONQUER THE ZUGSPITZE

Garmisch-Partenkirchen was liberated by members of the US Army on April 20, 1945 and we will walk around the place that became a home for so many Americans thereafter! Ofcourse there is much more to discover. Partenkirchen is the older of the two sides of Garmisch -Partenkirchen and therefore also has a wealth of historic sites. Highlights include the “Plague Chapel” put up during the Thirty Years War, some great frescoes, the State School for Woodworking, the Partenkirchen Kurpark, and some wonderful stories about Ludwig the Bavarian, Henry the Lion and St. Mark. There is a good chance to have dinner afterwards for those who are interested. Price: $10 or $8 per adult/child; free for children under 12.

The Zugspitze divides Germany and Austria and has the Partnach and Hoellental gorges. Day one, we hike 6-8 hours through the Reintal valley and stay at the Reintalangerhuette, one of the most famous huts in the Alps. Day two, we continue up steeper slopes to the Zugspitzplatt. From there, those who want to continue can scale up the rock “Klettersteig” to the cross. Price: $149 per person, $120 per child. Includes overnight with breakfast & dinner, cable car down, hiking poles, harness and guide. Great team building activity. Charter your own private trip.$8 per adult/child; free for children under 12.

PARTNACH GORGE & POOL TRIP

MUNICH: THE DARK TOUR

AUGUST 4

AUGUST 29

One of the most beautiful natural sights in Garmisch Partenkirchen is the Partnach Gorge. It is beautiful in every season and serves as our “Mini Grand Canyon” without quite the influx of visitors! The Alpspitz Wellenbad is the town’s largest pool and the best spa in the local area. There are three saunas, a steam bath, jacuzzis, warm pools, cold pools, diving pools, an Olympic pool, salt pools, salt treatments, eating and drinking areas, a bar, numerous lounging areas and just about everything you might want to experience during the most relaxing day of your life. (Parts of the spa area are “textile free”). This 7 hour tour on a Saturday afternoon includes the walking tour and entrance to the gorge, pool and sauna areas of the SPA. It is also possible to do only the walk through the gorge or only the pool, but buying the combination results in $4 saved! Price: $22 Wellenbad; $10 Gorge; $28 Gorge and Wellenbad.

AUGUST 8-9

AUGUST 28, 7 P.M. (PART ONE) AUGUST 30, 8 A.M. (PART TWO)

This is the most ambitious and extraordinary introduction to the dark period of Munich’s history offered by any tour company! The complete tour starts on Friday evening in the assembly room of Building 253 with a two and half hour video and lecture about the rise of the Third Reich under Adolf Hitler in the city of Munich. On the following Sunday we take the train to Munich and walk the route of the “Bier Hall Putsch” and see nearly everything associated with this darkest period of Munich’s history. Price: $45 per adult. Not appropriate for children under the age of 15.
