LIBRARY BOOK CLUB
FEBRUARY 9, 7 P.M. “Cane River” by Lalita Tademy Beginning this month the Library will be hosting a bimonthly book club for adults with a guided discussion of the books at each meeting. In conjunction with African American History Month, the book choice for February is “Cane River” by Lalita Tademy, a story that chronicles four generations of women born into slavery along the Cane River in Louisiana. Stop by the Library for more details and sign up to receive notifications about additional upcoming meetings. Join the group for a fun and informal get together and opportunity to share your thoughts and impressions with others who love books and reading. Books are available at the Library for checkout.

Love is not just for the birds. With the Feast of Saint Valentine or Valentine’s Day mid-month, February is commonly celebrated as the month of love and affection. The Library will mark the occasion with a display featuring romance stories, novels and poetry, Valentine’s Day crafts and specialty cook books. Check it out for great ideas to celebrate the day and bring joy to all of your special loved ones.

CONCERT IN MUNICH: CARL ORFF’S “CARMINA BURANA”
FEBRUARY 19 It’s time to say good-bye to the frivolity of Carnevale and get busy with the repentance and restructuring of one’s life. The “Songs of Burana” are medieval poems uncovered in a monastery about 30 miles from Garmisch. The poems were written by the monks and the Munich composer Carl Orff set it all to fantastic music. Price: $20 per adult, tickets in the Gasteig range from €66 down to €29.
TORCH HIKE SERIES
FEBRUARY 20 Hike through wintery snow-covered landscapes up to a mountain hut where we enjoy a nice winter meal together. Afterwards, we return aided by lit mountain torches. Great Family fun and a unique winter experience that anyone can do! Each hike is approximately 1.5 hours each way. Price: $15 per adult and $10 per child.
MUNICH: THE DARK TOUR
FEBRUARY 27 - PART ONE MARCH 1 - PART TWO This is the most ambitious introduction to the dark period of Munich’s history offered by any tour company! We’ll start with a two and ½ hour video and lecture about the rise of the Third Reich under Adolf Hitler in the city of Munich. On March 1, we’ll travel to Munich and walk the route of the “Bier Hall Putsch” and see nearly everything associated with this darkest period of Munich’s history. Call us for more details. Price: $45 per adult - not appropriate for children.

FEBRUARY 28 The Partnach Gorge is one of the most beautiful natural sights in GarmischPartenkirchen! The Alpspitz Wellenbad is the town’s largest pool with the best spa in the local area with saunas, a steam bath, Jacuzzis, various types of pools, salt treatments, eating & drinking areas, numerous lounging areas and just about everything you might want to experience during the most relaxing day of your life. Price: $28 per adult.
WEEKEND TRIP PRESIDENT’S DAY AND VALENTINE’S DAY IN ITALY
FEBRUARY 13-16 The celebration of Presidents’ Day Weekend coincides with Valentine’s Day in the Romeo & Juliet city of Verona and the last weekend of Carnevale in Venice. We will drive to Vicenza to stay overnight. Day 1, we will celebrate the feast of St. Valentine in Verona. Day 2, we make the short train trip to Venice where we will see works of art, architecture and tourists in wild abandon during the Venetian Carnevale. Day 3, we will head to the hills around Verona to the restaurant capital of Borghetto to enjoy dining in a gourmet restaurant. Price: $390 per
adult, $195 per child ages 5-15 (includes transportation, accommodations and breakfast); single room supplement $45 per night.
