BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an influential leader of the civil rights movement during the 1960s. He was born Michael King, Jr., on January 15, 1929, but was called Martin or M.L. from a young age. King skipped grades nine and 12, attended Morehouse College at the age of 15 and graduated with a degree in sociology. During the years of protest, he was arrested a total of 29 times. In 1963, he was named Time magazine’s “Man of the Year.” Visit the library to learn more about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his legacy.

Need some cheer during the gloomy days of January? Stop by the library for a daily dose of humor. Ask a staff member to tell you the joke of the day and check out our display of funny and entertaining books and movies. And yes, laughing out loud will be allowed.

JANUARY 24, 7 P.M. Get ready to meet the local author Oliver Poetzsch in March by reading his first book in the series “The Hangman’s Daughter.” You might be familiar with many of the locations described in this fast-paced thriller about a compassionate hangman and his daughter that vividly depicts the sights, sounds and smells of seventeenth century Bavaria.

FUN FACT

The month of January was named after the Roman god Janus. He had two faces, which allowed him to look forward into the coming year as well as back through the past year.
