READING BY DESIGN
July 5 & 12, 10 a.m., Grades K-5
Summer Reading Program for children entering grades K-5 is designed to inspire readers to aim for peak performance and avoid “summer slide,” or diminished reading skills. There will be plenty of fun activities, crafts and storytimes wrapped around rocket ships, inventions and robots. The program is simple: you read books and earn prizes! Children grades 5 and below must be accompanied by a caregiver. Registration required.
TEEN READ
July 5 & 12, 10 a.m. Grades 6 and up
Teen Read is a self-driven reading event. Join like-minded teens at the library weekly for inspiration or read alone. Vote at registration for a movie viewing finale. Keep track of all the time you read and you might just win a prize to boot!
READ-TO-ME
Pre-School Storytime July 6 & 13, 10:30 a.m.
Read-to-Me is for pre-readers ages 5 and under featuring four weekly read aloud storytimes. Children keep track of the time a parent, friend or older sibling reads to them. Get the whole family involved and read together this summer.
BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP July 25, 7 p.m.
Hag-seed by Margaret Atwood is William Shakespeare’s The Tempest retold as a prison drama. Felix, living on the outskirts, is a defunct director stewing in his resentment over the loss of his beloved Shakespeare Festival and his daughter, Miranda. Twelve years later, a prison theatre course avails itself. Will it bring retribution and a second chance? Books available at the library.

PAPERBACK CALL OUT
Are foreign language paperbacks cluttering up your book shelves? Donate them to the Library! They will be passed on to the European Rotational Forces including U.S., NATO & partner-nation forces who rotate through Grafenwoehr. The “Free Library” has a wealth of English titles, but little in other languages. Help these soldiers and clear your clutter.

PARTENKIRCHEN HISTORIC WALKING TOUR
GARMISCH HISTORIC WALKING TOUR
Partenkirchen, the older of the two sides of GarmischPartenkirchen, has a wealth of historic sights. Highlights include the “Plague Chapel” put up during the Thirty Years’ War, beautiful frescoes, the State School for Woodworking, the Partenkirchen Kurpark and some wonderful stories about Ludwig the Bavarian, Henry the Lion and St. Mark. Rain or shine, this trip will go! Price: $10/adult, free for children under 12
Where were the witches burned? What’s the story behind the statue of the woman and the decapitated head? Why are the buildings painted with religious art? Where did the local Werdenfelser Nazis meet on the night before the celebrated “Bier Hall Putsch” in 1923? This tour is packed with answers to all of your Garmisch questions and fun facts. We may even have time for a bier and some food at one of Garmisch’s best restaurants after the tour has finished. Price: $10/adult, free for children under 12

The Alpspitze Wellenbad is the town’s largest pool, and the best spa in the local area. There are three saunas, a steam bath, Jacuzzis, warm pools, cold pools, diving pools, an Olympic pool, salt pools, salt treatments, eating and drinking areas, a bar, numerous lounging areas, a “textile free area” and just about everything you might want to experience during the most relaxing day of your life. This 7 hour tour includes the walking tour and entrance to the pool and the gorge. Price: Gorge and Pool $30/ person; Pool alone $26/person; Gorge alone $10/person; Children under 12 are ½ price
