LIFE’S A GARDEN DIG IT!

Whether you have a yard with plenty of space or just room enough to keep a few small window boxes, get some great ideas for designing and growing your garden at the library. Our June display will feature books about flowers, rock gardens, square foot gardening, soil composition, composting and much more. Give your green thumb a chance to bloom.

Get jazzed about reading this summer! Our Summer Reading Program is designed to keep the reading tempo going and avoid “summer slide”. We’ll have plenty of fun activities, crafts and storytimes that reflect the musical theme. The program is simple: you read books and earn prizes! All children entering grades K-6 may sign up for the program. Teens will have a separate independent reading program. Registration is required and begins Friday, June 12. Children 5th grade and below must be accompanied by a caregiver. Beat it to the library for more details.

“READ-TO-ME”

Summer Reading Storytime Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. July 2

It’s never too early to introduce your child to the magic of reading. This program for pre-readers ages 5 and under features three weekly read aloud storytimes and activities. Get the whole family involved and reading together this summer. Registration begins Friday, June 12.

Chilton

Get crankin this summer and save money on car maintenance. Available electronically from the library, Chilton’s gives you the detailed information you need to tackle vehicle maintenance and repairs for most models from 1940. • Maintenance and specification tables. • Step-bystep service and repair procedures. • Vacuum diagrams to simplify troubleshooting. • Wiring diagrams to help expain system operation. • Close-up photographs and illustrations for visual support. • ASE test prep quizzes for the most popular certification exams. • A print button which allows you to easily print ou what is needed. OUTDOOR RECREATION Prague & Pilsen Brewery July 2 - 5

The capital of Bohemia has the famous Charles Bridge and Old Town Square; the beautiful St. Vitus Cathedral in the Old Castle and a wonderful tradition of music-making by “Bohemians” of all stripes. You can attend an opera in one of Prague’s three opera houses where the performances are inexpensive and subtitled in English. Your guide will also provide an excellent tour of the Franz Kafka Museum as well as the “Slav Epic” by Alfons Mucha - twenty enormous paintings depicting the long march of the Slavic peoples toward nationhood and self-determination. We will tour the original Pilsner Urquell Brewery in - where else? - Pilsen! Since Pilsen is the European Culture Capital for 2015, it is quite possible that there will be other surprises as well! The great National Hero Jan Hus was burned at the stake on July 6, 1415, meaning that we will be in Prague during the weekend of the 600th anniversary! Expect great things! Price: $390 per adult, $195 per child (5-12); single supplement is an additional $45 per night (includes transportation, hotel accomodations and breakfast).

Weekend Tour to Venice and Verona, Italy July 10 - 12

In just one short weekend, you will see both Venice and Verona! On Friday afternoon, we drive to Vicenza where we will spend the night. Early Saturday morning, we make the short train trip to Venice where we will see great art and architecture, (Paul’s guided tours of the Academia and the Scuola di San Rocco are renowned), pigeons in St. Mark’s Square, gondolas and more. We will again spend the second night in Verona on Sunday. In Verona, you have the opportunity to tour the famous setting to Romeo and Juliet with its Roman Arena before dining at a wonderful restaurant. Price: $299 per adult; $145 per child (5-12); Single supplement is an additional $45 per night (includes transportation, hotel accomodations and breakfast).

Partenkirchen Historic Walking Tour July 29

Garmisch-Partenkirchen was liberated by members of the US Army on April 20, 1945 and we will walk around the place that became a home for so many Americans thereafter! Ofcourse there is much more to discover. Partenkirchen is the older of the two sides of Garmisch -Partenkirchen and therefore also has a wealth of historic sites. Highlights include the “Plague Chapel” put up during the Thirty Years War, some great frescoes, the State School for Woodworking, the Partenkirchen Kurpark, and some wonderful stories about Ludwig the Bavarian, Henry the Lion and St. Mark. There is a good chance to have dinner afterwards for those who are interested. Price: $10 or $8 per adult/child; free for children under 12.

Prague

July 31 - August 2 The Golden City just gets better and better. Spared extensive bombing damage in WWII, Prague still has an authentic feel to its wonderful architecture. The capital of Bohemia has the famous Charles Bridge and Old Town Square, the beautiful St. Vitus Cathedral and the Old Castle and a wonderful tradition of music-making by “Bohemians” of all stripes. We usually attend an opera in one of Prague’s three opera houses where the performances are inexpensive and subtitled in English. If time permits, your tour guide will also provide an excellent tour of the Franz Kafka Museum and the Alfons Mucha “Slav Epic.” In addition to the cities historical and cultural attributes it has a reputation for quality Czech beer as well! On our return trip we will stop in Pilsen briefly for a meal at a great restaurant for a quick lunch. Price: $290 per adult, $145 per child (5-12); single supplement is an additional $45 per night (includes transportation, hotel accomodations and breakfast).
