LIFE’S A GARDEN DIG IT!

Whether you have a yard with plenty of space or just room enough to keep a few small window boxes, get some great ideas for designing and growing your garden at the library. Our June display will feature books about flowers, rock gardens, square foot gardening, soil composition, composting and much more. Give your green thumb a chance to bloom.

Get jazzed about reading this summer! Our Summer Reading Program is designed to keep the reading tempo going and avoid “summer slide”. We’ll have plenty of fun activities, crafts and storytimes that reflect the musical theme. The program is simple: you read books and earn prizes! All children entering grades K-6 may sign up for the program. Teens will have a separate independent reading program. Registration is required and begins Friday, June 12. Children 5th grade and below must be accompanied by a caregiver. Beat it to the library for more details.

“READ-TO-ME”

Summer Reading Storytime Thursdays, 10:30 a.m. June 18 & 25, July 2

It’s never too early to introduce your child to the magic of reading. This program for pre-readers ages 5 and under features three weekly read aloud storytimes and activities. Get the whole family involved and reading together this summer. Registration begins Friday, June 12.

BOOK CLUB Thursday, 28 May, 7 p.m.

Join in the guided discussion of the book “Wonder” by R. J. Palacio. Sign up at the library to receive emails about upcoming meetings and books. The fall meeting of the book club will be held Monday, 21 September and the book will be “All the Light You Cannot See” by Anthony Doerr. Books, eBook and audiobooks available at the library.

Looking for your next book? Want to find a new author?

Can’t remember all the titles in a series? NoveList Plus is a great resource for readers. Available from the library website, simply search it to match your reading style. Next time you’re in the library, ask a staff member to show you how!

Partenkirchen Historic Walking Tour

Partnach Gorge and Alpspitzwellenbad Pool Trip

Garmisch-Partenkirchen was liberated by members of the US Army on April 20, 1945 and we will walk around the place that became a home for so many Americans thereafter! Ofcourse there is much more to discover. Partenkirchen is the older of the two sides of Garmisch -Partenkirchen and therefore also has a wealth of historic sites. Highlights include the “Plague Chapel” put up during the Thirty Years War, some great frescoes, the State School for Woodworking, the Partenkirchen Kurpark, and some wonderful stories about Ludwig the Bavarian, Henry the Lion and St. Mark. There is a good chance to have dinner afterwards for those who are interested. Price: $10 or $8 per adult/child; free for children under 12.

One of the most beautiful natural sights in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is the Partnach Gorge. It is beautiful in every season and serves as out “Mini Grand Canyon” without quite the influx of visitors! The Alpspitz Wellenbad is the town’s largest pool and the best spa in the local area. There are three saunas, a steam bath, jacuzzis, warm pools, cold pools, diving pools, an Olympic pool, salt pools, salt treatments, eating and drinking areas, a bar, numerous lounging areas and just about everything you might want to experience during the most relaxing day of your life. (Parts of the spa area are “textile free”). This 7 hour tour on a Saturday afternoon includes the walking tour and entrance to the gorge, pool and sauna areas of the SPA. It is also possible to do only the walk through the gorge or only the pool, but buying the combination results in $4 saved! Price: $22 Wellenbad; $10 Gorge; $28 Gorge and Wellenbad.
