YOGA HIKE EVENING August 3 Outdoor Recreation Through the power of yoga and the cardio of hiking, top off whatever day you’ve had and decide what kind of day will be tomorrow. Join your yoga instructor and adventure guide, as she takes you on a short evening hike up to one of her favorite retreats. Breathe and move through a vinyasa flow to end with a cool down hike and perhaps a healthy drink at a local biergarten. Price: $20/person.

FAMILY CANOE AND CAMPING WEEKEND August 5-7 Outdoor Recreation Join Outdoor Recreation for a family friendly weekend canoeing and camping on the scenic Altmuehl River in Bavaria. We will be traveling approximately 12 km per day in boats and stopping at interim camping destinations along the route for overnight stays. Learn to camp and cook with your family and friends. All equipment (i.e. boats, tents and sleeping bags) will be provided by Outdoor Recreation. Contact Outdoor Recreation for route information and recommended packing lists. Price: $200/family up to four, $85/single participants.

EVENING OUTDOOR ROCK CLIMBING August 9 & 30 Outdoor Recreation Join Outdoor Recreation after work or school and climb some great local crags. We’ll hit up a different climbing area each time we go out so you’ll get a tour of the surrounding wealth that is the Frankenjura Climbing Mecca. Price: $25/person.

TEXAS HOLD ‘EM TOURNAMENT August 12, 6:45 p.m. The Zone Come out to the Zone and enjoy one of America’s favorite card games. Texas Hold ’Em is one of the most popular variants of poker and has fascinated players for many years. $25 buy-ins and rebuys.

WINE TASTING August 12 Outdoor Recreation Spend the evening relaxing at one of our little hidden treasure local wine destinations. Outdoor Recreation will take you to a Regensburg Wine Cellar, a Sinzing Winery and the cozy Gut Loeweneck Cafe located on the scenic Naab River. Each wine outing offers a diverse sampling of German and Italian wines paired with various artisan appetizers. Price: $39/adult.

BUDAPEST BATHS AND MUSIC FEST DAY August 12-14 Outdoor Recreation Enjoy the capital of Hungary, definitely one of Europe’s most beautiful cities. World Heritage sites include the banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrassy Avenue, Heroes’ Square and the Millennium Underground Railway. We will arrive in the midst of the Sziget Music Festival on Freedom Island. Other highlights include a total of 80 geothermal springs and the world’s largest thermal water cave system. Join us in the “Paris of Eastern Europe.” Price: $149/adult, $75/children under 12.

KARWENDEL HIKING TOUR August 19-22 Outdoor Recreation Join Outdoor Recreation for a 4‐day hike through the picturesque Karwendel Alps in Austria. This hike will lead you through 26 kilometers of mesmerizing landscape and have you captivated as you hike to a new hut for each overnight stay. A moderate level of physical fitness and prior hiking experience is recommended for this adventure. Inquire at Outdoor Recreation for details (i.e. packing lists and specific itineraries). Price includes expert guide, overnights in huts, train ride through Innsbruck and transport to and from Austria. Price: $225/person.

WHITEWATER KAYAKING August 27 Outdoor Recreation Are you addicted to adventure? If you are looking for a fun and unique whitewater experience then join us for a day trip that includes paddling one of Germany’s best kayaking destinations: The Wiesent. Your guides will handle the logistics, including transportation, equipment, instruction and fun. ECLECTIC BOOK CLUB August 30, 5-6 p.m. Library Take some time for yourself and read a good book with us! Join our Eclectic Book club as we embark on epic journeys through books, with the added bonus of talking about them afterwards! Newcomers are always welcome.

LAKE NIGHT August 31 Outdoor Recreation Lake Night is a great way to spend the warm Bavarian evening! Enjoy two hours paddling the beautiful Steinberger See. Paddle over to the restaurant across the lake or explore the tiny islands from your choice of paddle board, kayak or canoe! Price: $25/person.

CYSS “ALL STAR” PROGRAM

Our staff work very hard to make sure that children are well cared for and have every opportunity to grow and develop. The ‘All Star’ program is set up to show staff how much we appreciate them and recognize their tireless efforts of caring for our Children and Youth. Please help us by writing ‘star notes’ for excellence that you see. Each facility has a special location for the ‘All Star’ cards to be posted. At the end of each month, the cards will be collected and an award will be given for the caregiver who has the most ‘Star Cards’.

HALLO HOHENFELS NEWCOMERS ORIENTATION August 9-12, B10 This is the place to be if you’re new to the community. In addition to learning some German language, you will explore local communities, a local bakery and butcher shop, discover Mobelhof, a huge home decorating store and spend the final day on a site seeing visit to Regensburg. Find out how your new community works without doing everything yourself and make some new friends at the same time. Special DOUBLE bonus: a visit to the epicenter of the rotations: the ‘Star Wars’ building AND a visit to the training area, a “Box Tour.”

WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK POTLUCK LUNCHEON August 12, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., B321 In recognition of World Breast Feeding Week, the ACS New Parent Support Program (NPSP) is hosting a Hohenfels Community Breastfeeding Awareness Potluck Luncheon for Families interested in education, support and networking. ALL ARE INVITED – including those preparing to breastfeed, currently breastfeeding and/or have breastfed in the past. Guest speakers include Ms. Danielle E. Sager, B.A., MPH, from Hohenfels TRICARE to review benefits provided by TRICARE, including breast pumps and Ms. Beverly Khaek-On, R.N., WIC Wellness Counselor, to share nutritional education and support while providing WIC eligibility rules and benefit packages. Bring a dish to share; the potluck sign-up sheet can be accessed during NPSP playgroup mornings or with the NPSP at ACS.

SURVIVAL GERMAN 101 – 4-PART SERIES August 8, 12, 15, 19, 30 & 31, 5:15-7:15 p.m., B10 An introduction to Survival German will make it easier for you to order food in restaurants, shop, travel, ask for directions and understand German doctors. You will simply feel more comfortable living in Germany. This could be the best use of 8 hours of your life ever. Important Note: These are sequential classes that build on each other. You need to attend all four classes.

Redefined for ages 6 weeks to 4 years, this program offers flexibility and opportunity to meet new people who are raising young children in our community. Bring your child, a mid-morning snack and join in on the fun.

BABY BOOT CAMP

Thursdays, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., B10 If you think about it, the reason for Boot Camp, really the reason for any kind of training is to get ready for the ‘main’ event. This newly revised 7-part rotating program at ACS is for those who are expecting a new arrival that answers questions most books and programs don’t. Geared for parents-to-be, this workshop covers topics such as birth certificate process in Germany, breast feeding, personal expectations, bringing baby home and much more.
