The paintings are called ‘Lueftlmalerei’ and date back to the 18th century when wealthy merchants, farmers and craftsmen showed their wealth and status with colorful frescoes on the façade of their houses. The paintings often incorporated existing architectural structures, such as windows or doors, or took the form of medallions or scenes from the Bible, fairy tales or folk festivals.
Tower View Restaurant Update With our upgrade of the Patton Fireside Lounge to an American-Bavarian restaurant we will paint a ‘Lueftlmalerei’ to the inside of the restaurant. The restaurant called “Bavaria Stub’n” will serve authentic American-Bavarian cuisine, prepared from scratch. The menu will be unique with nutritional and health concerns in mind offering quality, consistency and security in an air-conditioned environment. Mark your calendar for the Grand Opening scheduled in February. Bar operation, conferencing and catering will continue as well as our popular BINGO program. The next BINGO dates are January 9 & 23 and February 6 & 20. Doors open 5 p.m., Early Bird starts 6 p.m. and regular Bingo starts 7 p.m. Would you like to have dinner while playing? We now have our regular lunch menu available for you to order!
Dining & Entertainment
The origin of the word “Lueftlmalerei’ is not clear. Some believe that the name is based on the most famous Lueftl painter, Franz Zwink (1748-1972) who lived in Oberammergau in a house called “Zum Lueftl’. Other theories connect the word to Luft (English: Air); the frescoes being painted in the open air.

Friends and neighbors often help out by caring for each other’s children. Informal childcare arrangements can save money and provide play opportunities for the children of both families. It’s a great solution for families who need childcare infrequently. So, just being neighborly can help a young family! But…a word of caution: Army Regulation 608-10 limits the amount of time that a friend or neighbor can care for children in their government owned or leased quarters. If you are caring for children for more than 10 hours a week, on a regular basis, you may be at risk of losing your housing privileges. If someone reports unauthorized child care to Child, Youth & School Services (CYSS), our Family Child Care, or FCC Director visits the home and provides the caregiver with information about becoming a certified FCC provider. CYSS assists parents in unauthorized childcare to find care in an authorized program. If you enjoy caring for children, and want to provide care for more than 10 hours a week, consider becoming a certified FCC provider. Certified providers earn money while working from home. During the month of January, CYSS is offering unauthorized caregivers the opportunity to seek certification during its FCC Amnesty Program. The purpose of the Amnesty Program is to allow the caregiver to register with CYSS to become an FCC provider without penalty. During this period those who come forward and meet the eligibility requirements may continue to provide care while simultaneously going through the FCC certification process. Some of the benefits of being a FCC Provider are: - No cost liability insurance - Utilization of CYSS equipment/Resource Library - Reimbursement for food expenditures - Marketable credentials/career advancement - Limited start-up costs - Ongoing professional training To learn more about becoming a Family Child Care provider, please call the Family Child Care office.

Grafenwoehr Community members have shared this experience and tail gating environment all season long at “Game Day with Family and MWR”. The Zone Sports Bar on Rose Barracks and the Warrior Zone on Tower Barracks highlighted NFL Football Games shown on AFN once a month giving Soldiers stationed at United States Army Garrison Bavaria, a common place to relax, eat and enjoy some friendly rivalry. These locations host activities that Soldiers can take advantage of such as poker nights, pool tournaments and BOSS programs. Many of the Soldiers also kept up with their Armed Forces Europe Fantasy Football Team using the free Wi-Fi available at these locations! By watching football games with Family and MWR all season, community members increased their chances to win a trip to Edelweiss Lodge and Resort along with a free BMW rental for the same weekend. PV2 Ethan Rawls scored the game winning touchdown when his name was randomly picked during the drawing which was held November 17, 2013. Don’t be discouraged if you didn’t get a chance to enjoy the fun and enter because The Zone Sports Bar (Rose Barracks) and the Warrior Zone (tower Barracks) are hosting Super Bowl Parties on February 2. This is your last chance to enter for the final drawing of the season which includes a trip to Edelweiss Lodge and Resort along with a free BMW rental. Good luck and we will see you in the playoffs!
