KLETTERSTEIG SEPTEMBER 10

Looking for a new way to get vertical in your local area? The Klettersteig, or “Via Ferrata” in Italian, was originally used by the Italian military as a means of transporting troops and supplies through the Dolomites during WWII. The Klettersteig is similar to rock climbing because it uses much of the same safety equipment; however, rather than climbing up the rock face, climbers will traverse the face on an established route. Participants are attached by a self-belay system to a steel cable that runs the length of the route. No prior climbing experience necessary. Transportation, equipment and guide included. Price: $35/person.

POLISH POTTERY, POLAND* SEPTEMBER 16

Boleslaweic, Poland is the heart of the pottery industry. To this day, factories continue to hand stamp the patterns on each piece in the hundred-year-old tradition. Designs range from original patterns inspired by the peacock to more modern styles. The pottery is made from white clay, and many pieces are microwave and dishwasher-safe. Visit different stores for a wide choice to start or complete a collection! Price: $59/person.

CAVING SEPTEMBER 23

Join us on a 3-hour underground tour of the Bismarck Grotte, one of the largest underground cave systems in the area. A tour of this cavern system begins with rappelling into the mouth of the cave. From there, use climbing gear to negotiate the ups and downs of this “undertaking.” The tour culminates with a 25-foot chimney climb out of the depths of the cave. Some of the passages are tight. If you are claustrophobic please be advised! Registration prior to the day of event is encouraged. Transportation, equipment and guide included. Price: $35/person.

TWO CASTLES SEPTEMBER 24

Germany is famous for its castles, and Bavaria offers the biggest and best of them all. A building frenzy was initiated by King Ludwig II during his short reign, and while he almost bankrupted the country, the castles are a lasting testimony to whimsy and fairy tales. Tour the world famous Neuschwanstein and the more sedate Hohenschwangau, both located in Schwangau. Admission not included in price (approx. 15€ per person, per castle). Price: $49/adult, $39/child (3-12), $10/child under 3.
