OKTOBERFEST OPENING DAY
September 16, Outdoor Recreation, H15 On the dot of 12 noon, Munich’s mayor Dieter Reiter will tap the first barrel, thus declaring the “Wiesn“ - as the Munich people call it – officially open. Each year the fest gets bigger and the “Maß” beer gets colder. Traditional Bavarian music, famous roller coasters and fistfuls of beer make this the biggest Volksfest in the world. September 29, Outdoor Recreation, H15 Join Outdoor Recreation for a historical tour of the catacombs running beneath the city of Nuremberg. Although the subterranean passages have fulfilled many duties throughout the ages, they have been most recently used as beer storage for the multitude of breweries in the Nuremberg area. Accordingly, homemade beer is the big theme of this tour through the rock-cut cellars beneath the city. It ends, of course, with a beer tasting and a visit to the craft brewery “Hausbrauerei Altstadthof.” Tour, tasting and transport included. Price: $29/person

Our staff work very hard to make sure that Children are well cared for and have every opportunity to grow and develop. The ‘All Star’ program is set up to show staff how much we appreciate them and recognize their tireless efforts of caring for our Children and Youth. Please help us by writing ‘star notes’ for excellence that you see. Each facility has a special location for the ‘All Star’ cards to be posted. At the end of each month, the cards will be collected and an award will be given for the caregiver who has the most ‘Star Cards’.

KIDS KONNECTION Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9-11 a.m., B321 This twice weekly ACS playgroup offers a fun and diverse format featuring music time, free play and special activity stations. Redefined for ages 6 weeks to 4 years, this program offers flexibility and opportunity to meet new people who are raising young children in our community.
FINANCIALLY FIT September 1, 15 & 29, 9 a.m. - noon, B10 A hands-on interactive class that teaches the importance of goal setting, finding out your net worth (shows how much you owe compared to what you own), budget setting techniques, a reality check (do I really spend what I think I spend?), setting up a spending plan to follow your budget and debt reduction strategies.
STRESS MANAGEMENT September 5, 10-11 a.m., B10 Feeling pressured? Too many changes in your life coming at you too fast? Learn about the different kinds of stress and how problematic stress an affect your mental and physical health. Identify your warning signs and the sources of your stress then learn how to better manage stress by, among other things, learning to let go.
SURVIVAL GERMAN 101 September 6, 7, 13 & 14, 9:30-11:30 a.m., B10 An introduction to German will make it easier for you to order food in restaurants, shop, travel, ask for directions and understand German doctors. Make yourself more comfortable living in Germany by learning basic phrases. IMPORTANT NOTE: These are sequential classes that build on each other. Course consists of four 2-hour classes.
ANGER MANAGEMENT September 10, 10-11 a.m., B10 Anger is a natural emotional reaction. It’s neither good nor bad. Anger that is not managed well, however, can cause many problems from health issues to problems getting along with others including your husband or wife. Is your anger hurting you? Understand that there are at least ten styles of expressing anger. Learn which one is yours and how you personally deal with conflict. Learning more effective ways of dealing with conflict may just help you live a happier and more peaceful life.
FRG CONTACT TRAINING September 14, 9-11:30 a.m., B10 Familiarize yourself with Key Contact Guidance, understand the mission, role and responsibility. This course is perfect for any new FRG leader and anyone else wanting to learn the ins and outs of the organization.
BASIC STEP PROGRAM September 19 & 26, 1 p.m., Library, B49 BASIC STEP (Systematic Training for Effective Parenting) is a research-based parenting class for the parents of school-aged children (between ages 6-12). STEP encourages mutual respect between parent and child, increased cooperation, more effective communication and a more responsible, self-reliant attitude among children. In seven sessions, learn how to understand your child’s behavior, how to listen and talk to your child, discipline that makes sense and more.
HALLO HOHENFELS NEWCOMERS ORIENTATION September 19-22, B10 This is the place to be if you’re new to the community. In addition to learning some German language, you will explore local communities (including a bakery and butcher shop), discover a huge home decorating store and spend the final day site seeing in Regensburg. Find out how your new community works without doing everything yourself and make some new friends at the same time. Special DOUBLE bonus: a visit to the epicenter of the rotations: the “Star Wars” building and a visit to the training area, a “Box Tour.”

EVENINGS AT THE LAKE Every other Tuesday Paddling with Outdoor Recreation on the Steinburger See is a great way to spend the warm Bavarian evenings! Choose between canoes, kayaks or paddle boards while exploring the lake’s tiny islands, the clean and wide swimming beaches or the water-side restaurant. Small blocks of boat-specific instruction are available upon request. Boat, gear and transport included. Price: $29/person
THURSDAY NIGHT BIKE RIDES
Thursdays, Outdoor Recreation, H15 The Hohenfels Outdoor Recreation Mountain Bike Club rides the fantastic single track trails on post to help each other gain the skills, practice and friends to participate in the Race Series Circuit.
