10 km from Lienz, Assling is a rural community consisting of two larger villages and several small hamlets with a total of about 2,000 inhabitants. Directly on the panoramic road “Pustertaler Höhenstraße” lies the community center Assling, which invites you to linger alone by its picturesque location - with a great view to the mighty rock towers of the Spitzkofel. Some inns, several private lodgings, the scenic pasture-trail “Pustertaler Almweg” with beautiful hiking experiences for the whole family, an attractive leisure facility center with swimming pool and tennis courts as well

as the Drau cycle path guarantee pleasant holiday times for rest seeking guests. Special to see are the parish church (existing from 1261) and the Adventure World Assling with wildlife park (see page 105). For guests stying three days or more, the entrance fee for the Vithal swimming pool, tennis and the wildlife park is free! A mountain road leads up to the Hochsteinhütte at 2023 m, offering a spacious family hiking area there. A place to look and wonder, with the magnificent view to the opposite Lienz Dolomites and to the town laying below.

At the municipal office are exhibited findings from the church hill of St. Justina and the „Mortbichl“. There a presented art treasures of the high and early middle ages, including a special burial of a roman woman, as well as a golden beaded jewel collar.
