GRAMPIAI\S STT]D While operating as a meatworks buyer in 1954, I was fortunate to see the potential of Brahman cattle and their crosses for the beef industry in Australia. This, coupled with a severe drought during which we lost a considerable number of Hereford cattle, decided us to introduce Brahman into our herd with the purchase of three pure bred heifers and a pure bred bull.
These cattle were purchased at the Rockhampton Brahman Sale and were bred by McCartney Bros., of Princhester. The programme was so successful that in 196 I we decided to register as a stud, being No. 46 in the Association. With the purchase of "Waverley James de Manso", our top cows were appendix registered and a grading up programme started. The following year "Belmont Jumbo's Prince", who was of a different blood line, was purchased. Since then females have been purchased f rom Cherokee, Apis Creek, F.
Codd, Lawes, Balara, Banyak Suka and Avon-
Both "Waverley James" and "Acrobat" have had a strong influence on our herd, producing numerous prize and championship winners. Both are well fleshed, good hindquartered bulls, typical of the beef Brahmans we desire.
Amongst the heifers from Cherokee Stud l" in calf to "Cherokee Mombassa" which resulted in a bull calf, "Grampians Frosty" who is also being used in the stud. This magnificent cow was then mated to "Apis Creek Court Jester" to produce another top sire, "Grampians Duncan" who was later Grand Champion at Sydney and Rockhampton Shows. His first progeny will be shown next year. "Cherokee Jedda l" has also produced in our top herd, one heifer
was "Cherokee Jedda
by "Waverley James" and two heifers
by
" Acrobat".
ln our continuing search for beef type bulls, we were able to secure the aged bull "Cherokee L.A. Sitting Bull" and "Cherokee L.C. Crusoe", both of whom are now breeding in our herd. Semen has been stored from "Waverley James", "Belmont
dale.
ln I 963 we started showing cattle and
have continued to do so ever since at shows from Rockhampton to Melbourne. ln the same year we purchased "Apis Creek Acrobat" from Mr. Bob Beak, Wilangi, whose advice and help we were fortunate to obtain. "Acrobat" was successful in winning for us Grand Champion Bull of Queensland in 1966 and 1961, and was Brahman Sire of the Year 'l973. "Grampians Jodee" was Grand Champion Female of Queensland at the age of eleven months at the first showing of our own bred cattle in 1965.

cows,
"Grampians Charm" has secured 3B championship ribbons from Rockhampton to Melbourne
including 9 all breeds. While not yet four years of age, she will show at Melbourne Royal 1974 for the second year with her second calf , 5 months of age at side. Grampians would have travelled more miles to shows than any other stud, in our endeavour to bring the best in Brahmans before the public.
