MARKET REPORT Residential Sales Update
LIVI N G GR AN DE Dear Grande Dunes Residents, What an amazing year it has been here at Grande Dunes. We have seen some wonderful new additions to our community, "survived" a major storm and enjoyed some fantastic moments. I have come to love the unique blend of people, beautiful scenery and fun lifestyle that makes Grande Dunes an extraordinary place. As another year comes to a close, let’s remember some of the most memorable highlights 2018 brought. GRANDE EVENTS Our Marina Park events continued to draw guests. We learned that guests enjoy special events like Derby Day and Long Bay Symphony most and as such, our 2019 calendar offers many similar happenings. These events are meant to create a sense of charitable awareness. While we live in a fantastic community, many of our neighbors in the City of Myrtle Beach are not as fortunate. I have met some wonderful, selfless individuals who dedicate their time to help the less fortunate and I am honored to be able to use our platform to raise awareness and give back. This year alone, we were able to support these charities; American Heart Association, Parkland Broward Education Fund, Hope House-Myrtle Beach, Coastal Carolina Sertoma Club, Habitat for Humanity of Horry County, Grand Strand Humane Society, Grand Strand Stingrays

TRAVEL CLUB — FEELING GRAPE-FULL The Travel Club recently explored the Grapefull Sisters Vineyard, 20 minutes north of Myrtle Beach in Tabor City. The vineyard grows the antioxidant-rich Muscadine grape, yielding about eight varieties of wine, from a semi-dry white to a traditional red. Our intrepid group enjoyed wine tastings as well as samples from the jam and jelly bar. A lazy lunch on the Grapefull Sisters’ porch topped off the day. Ah! Southern living at its best.

R e ba W ill a r d Reba Willard lives in Golf Village and loves to shop, socialize, and travel. At 97, she has a sparkle we wanted to know more about.
WHERE DID YOU GROW UP? I grew up in Fuquay-Varina, south of Raleigh, in Wake County.
Losing my best friend, that was hard.
DO YOU HAVE ANY SIBLINGS STILL LIVING?
WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY?
Yes, I have an older sister; she is 99 years old!
Shopping, meeting new people, and attending my church, the First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach.
WHAT SURPRISES PEOPLE WHEN THEY FIRST MEET YOU? They can’t believe my age and that I still live on my own and drive a car (laughing). They seem to be impressed with that!
WHAT IS YOUR SECRET TO A LONG, HEALTHY LIFE? Eating healthy, exercising, getting good rest and sleep, and keeping a positive attitude.
WHAT IS THE MOST SPONTANEOUS THING YOU’VE EVER DONE? Well, I did ride on the back of a motorcycle not too long ago. That was FUN!
WHAT DO YOU LOVE TO EAT?
DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING ON YOUR BUCKET LIST OF THINGS YOU’VE WANTED TO DO IN LIFE?
I like all kind of foods, especially seafood.
Yes, I’ve always wanted to visit Switzerland.
LOOKING BACK, WHAT ACTIVITIES DID YOU DO IN HIGH SCHOOL?
WHAT IS ONE THING THAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I played basketball, sang in the choir, and later joined the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.
I play piano by ear and like to sing. I still love the oldies music.
DID YOU HAVE A CAREER OUTSIDE OF THE HOME? I worked for the North Carolina State Legislature. After I retired, I volunteered for the March of Dimes, the Raleigh International Airport, and the Ladies Professional Golf Association in Pinehurst.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PASTIMES AND HOBBIES? Until recently I was an avid golfer and volunteer. Now I enjoy shopping, traveling, and spending time with my lunch bunch group. I like to read and keep up with news and politics. I have to say, however, after working in the state legislature, I probably learned more there than I wanted to know!
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO MYRTLE BEACH? I decided to make a change at the age of 80. I liked Myrtle Beach, so I decided to move although I did not know anyone.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE BEST ABOUT LIVING IN GRANDE DUNES? The privacy of Golf Village and that it is a gated community—I’ve built two new homes there! I also love the beauty of Grande Dunes and all the things you can do. I’ve met so many nice people and feel like I am part of a family.

Gives Back
This time of year, many people give to their favorite charities, and think of others who may not have the means to enjoy the holidays. At Grande Dunes, we celebrate the Grand Strand and places beyond Myrtle Beach year-round. Why? We are grateful for the extraordinary community we have created here, full of caring people—and you are one of them. This year we responded to people in need by partnering with many well-respected charities. We believe in giving back to our community, whether it’s sponsoring a local Boy Scout troop, supporting women struggling with breast cancer, or keeping the arts alive with a donation to the Grand Strand’s Long Bay Symphony. We also raised funds for the victims and families of Parkland, and national charities such as the American Heart Association, Sertoma Club, and Habitat for Humanity, to name a few.

YOU'LL DISCOVER "WOMEN'S FASHIONS YOU WON'T FIND ANYWHERE ELSE" Laurie Johnston often tells customers to “Stay fabulous!” And that’s pretty much how women feel when they find that just-perfect piece of clothing or accessory at A Unique Boutique. Her shop specializes in one-of-a-kind fashions from all over the world, as well as jewelry, handbags, shoes, and cosmetics—just about anything a woman needs to feel put together. Her collection includes denim, palazzo pants, handmade necklaces, upcycled zipper bags and boho shirts decorated with men’s ties. LipSense and Arbonne cosmetics are also on site. A personal shopper is available, and you can also book a private shopping party with family and friends to have the store to yourself. Laurie opened the boutique in 2016 after feeling restless in retirement. A beach girl at heart, she grew up in Long Island and landed with her husband in Myrtle Beach via Virginia. She always picked up distinctive things while traveling, and people would ask “Where did you get that?” That inspired her to open her shop, which also features local designers and artisans. “Having worked most of my life in the medical field, I was looking to do something to help people,” she said. “Watching ladies leave our store feeling great is exactly what I was looking for.” Enjoy a fun, comfortable experience shopping for simple chic yet moderately priced clothing. A Unique Boutique is located on the 17 Bypass and 82nd Avenue in the Grande Dunes Shopping Plaza.

MARKET SUMMARY
2 18
The Myrtle Beach real estate market has certainly had an interesting year! Many factors contributed to making 2018 one of the most eventful years in recent history from a realtor's perspective. Let’s examine the overall trends, and how we define them.
HOW WE CALCULATE MARKET TRENDS While Grande Dunes makes up an important part of the Myrtle Beach market, it is only one of many sub-markets that feed into the overall market statistical area called the Grand Strand.
•
The average selling price was $802,000 versus $787,000 last year
•
54 homes closed versus 81 in 2017
•
38 of those homes were existing versus 47 existing homes in 2017

COMMUNITY NEWS Homeowners' Association Updates from Waccamaw Management Storm Damage Debris Collection After the two previous storms, several homeowners reached out to management inquiring as to why it was taking so long to have the storm debris picked up by the City of Myrtle Beach. We reached out to the City and they provided us with an answer. In the event the City of Myrtle Beach sustains storm damage caused by a possible hurricane, flood event or winter storm, the aftermath cleanup begins as soon as it is possible for the city and/or contractors to safely proceed. Once major thoroughfares are clean, crews begin removal of debris neighborhoods. Questions? Call 843-918-2160. Here are a few things to remember regarding debris removal:

• Storm debris MUST be placed within 15 feet of the edge of the pavement of your street. • City crews and contractors, along with the equipment, are NOT permitted on private property for debris removal. This includes yards,
gated communities, mobile home parks and developments with private streets. • Contractors of any form are not permitted to dispose of debris on the public right-of-way. • Separate debris into categorized piles; mixed debris will NOT be picked up. 1. Place household garbage in pelicans (trash cans) and recycling containers. 2. Do NOT bag storm debris! 3. Place construction debris in a separate pile; these items include building materials, drywall, lumber, carpet, furniture, mattresses and plumbing items. 4. Collect and place vegetative debris in a separate group; these items include tree branches, large limbs, leaves and trimmings. 5. Household hazardous waste, including oil, batteries, pesticides,
Yard Waste Collection As of November 1, 2018, the City will no longer pick up yard waste put in plastic bags. All leaves, grass clippings, weeds and other loose yard waste must be placed in paper bags. The bags can be purchased at area stores such as Lowe’s and Home Depot.

paints, cleaning supplies and compressed air, should be placed in a separate pile, too.
4. Do not call to request that trucks alter their scheduled routes; ALL areas will be attended.
6. The "white goods" pile refers to refrigerators, dryers, washers, freezers, air conditioners, stoves, water heaters and dishwashers (regardless of physical color).
5. Get debris out for pick up as promptly as possible. This helps accomplish a "three pass" sweep. If you miss the first pass, do not fret – another sweep will occur!
7. And, group electronics together in one pile; this includes televisions, computers, radios, stereos, DVD players and telephones.
6. Please note that different types of debris may be picked up at different times.
• Most storm debris will be removed utilizing a knuckle boom truck, which is sometimes called a "clamshell" truck. Please observe the following guidelines to avoid further confusion, damage or injury. 1. Please be patient. 2. Ensure debris is placed in area clear of overhead power/cable lines as well as low hanging tree limbs.
7. Again, do NOT bag storm debris. 8. And, be prepared to repair possible damage to swale areas from specialized equipment used to collect storm debris. Cityofmyrtlebeach.com. (2018). Storm Damage Debris Collection. [online] Available at: http://www.cityofmyrtlebeach.com/departments/public_works_ department/storm_damage_debris_collection.php [Accessed 16 Nov. 2018].
3. Do not place debris near gas or water valves, water meters, fire hydrants, fencing, mailboxes, etc.

Golf Carts and Mopeds How familiar are you with the South Carolina Golf Cart and Moped Laws? The City of Myrtle Beach has Golf Cart Laws that require registering your golf cart. The golf cart can be driven on secondary roads, used in daylight hours only, and the person operating the golf cart must be 16 years or older with a valid driver’s license. For detailed information regarding the South Carolina Golf Cart Laws please check out the website: http://www.cityofmyrtlebeach.com/i_want_to/learn_ about/golf_cart_laws.php Mopeds have a new law that was recently passed on October 29, 2018. The law will require all mopeds to be registered with the state Department of Motor Vehicles which will cost $10 every two years. It also requires drivers to get a license plate for their moped, and anyone under the age of 21 driving or riding a moped must wear a helmet.

Monthly Property Inspections Monthly property inspections are conducted by your association manager. Any violations noted will be brought to your attention. Please take the necessary steps to review your community guidelines with regard to owner maintenance responsibilities. These inspections serve to maintain property values and enhance the quality of life for our upscale neighborhoods.
Fireplace Safety As the season gets colder we all love to have a warm and inviting fire in the fireplace and keeping it safe will make the experience much more enjoyable. For those of you that have a propane or gas fireplace, it is a good idea to have your lines inspected to be sure there are no leaks and your system is ready to go. For those of you that have a wood burning fireplace, be sure to have your chimney inspected and cleaned.
