ANNIVERSARY

MARINA PARK YEAR IN REVIEW

REAL ESTATE NEWS NEW NEIGHBORHOODS

MEMBERSHIPS NEW DIRECTOR

LIV IN G GR AN DE Dear Residents, It’s hard to believe that we’re entering the cool and crisp days of fall. 2019 has been nothing short of stupendous – from our lineup of events in Marina Park that celebrated the 20th anniversary of Grande Dunes to announcing new communities and beyond. As the Grande Dunes community grows and we venture into our third decade of living Grande, I can say on behalf of our team, there’s nowhere else we would rather be. Fall in Grande Dunes is a very special time of year, one that is filled with tons of fun and opportunities to better connect with our community. Our annual Ghosts on the Coast event will end this year’s schedule of Marina Park events, so be sure to stop by for some spooky, family-friendly fun. New this year is a special 5K race that will take place prior to the Halloween celebration! One thing that I am particularly excited about is that the Anchor Café will now be open throughout the fall season! It’s been great to see such strong support from our friends and neighbors as they regularly use the café, making it a fantastic local spot. Check out the spread in this newsletter for its seasonal hours. I would also encourage all our members to take the time to check out this newsletter to see all the happenings at the Ocean Club. Peggy, our amazing Lifestyle Director, works hard to create an experience found nowhere else. There are clubs, activities and events for absolutely everyone. I hope you all have a fantastic fall season! Stay safe, stay warm and enjoy our incredible home.

Sincerely, Margaret LaCalle

making a celebration worthy of such an occasion. We decided to celebrate twenty years of Living Grande throughout the entire year in the form of events that our residents and the Myrtle Beach community at large could enjoy. From amazing concerts performed by local artists such as The Long Bay Symphony, to thrilling 5K races to family-friendly gatherings, each event attracted a large number of residents to our local venue and created lasting memories. Some local favorites included movies on the lawn, yoga and just

As is Grande Dunes tradition, a portion of the proceeds from each event were donated to a charity of nonprofit that directly impacts the Myrtle Beach and Grand Strand community. Just a few of these nonprofits included New Directions, Hope House of Myrtle Beach, Susan G. Komen Foundation and more. We are so happy to have Marina Park right here in our community and are already well underway to planning a fantastic 2020 event lineup. See you at the park!

GRANDE DUNES LIFE There’s one more month for our sun worshipers to get in their last-minute sunbathing at the OC pool while sipping on their favorite tropical drink. This is absolutely my favorite time of year as our evenings and morning feel cooler, but the days are still warm without the humidity! The pool will remain open until Sunday, October 27th. Even more good news, the complimentary beach chairs have been extended through October 13th! Of course, you are always welcome to bring your own chairs any time when you are heading to the beach and use the private beach access from the parking lot.

GRANDE DUNES LIFE PARTY TIME The Pamper Me Girls Party brought together 11 local businesses that specialized in pampering women on August 9th! We had over 50 ladies gather together on the 2nd floor at the Ocean Club for great appetizers, mimosas, door prizes, drawings and lots of girl fun! We hope to do this again next spring in April. The 3rd Friday Live Music Events have become a favorite for all our music lovers! We’ve had the most fun on the north side of the Ocean Club with great music and entertainment, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, and 50/50 raffle winners. Our September entertainment was Matt Johnson from Virginia, one of the contenders on the popular TV show The Voice. On October 18th it will be with Next Level Showcase who was rescheduled from August due to the inclement weather. If weather does not cooperate, the show will be moved inside the dining room. To celebrate the end of the season, the big Labor Day Social was a big hit! Samantha had a sold-out crowd with a Western Flare Theme with an all-you-can-eat buffet and a DJ that provided all the music and dancing fun. Our next social will be

ART CLASSES & WORKSHOPS Our Watercolor Painting Class has a very dedicated group of ladies who are hooked on this relaxing art. They meet each Monday on the 2nd floor from 10:00am until 1:00pm in the boardroom with our beloved instructor Cindra Marshall who pours everything she’s got into these classes! We feel so blessed to have her as she generously gives our Grande Dunes students such a great discount. It’s priced between $20-30 for the entire 3 hours and is open to men and women. There are two “Beginner’s Basics” classes offered in October, one on the 14th the second on the 21st. On October 16th, we will be painting Custom Wood Door Signs for the holidays. Our last craft project will be on November 20th – hand painting Ceramic Christmas Ornaments with Harry the Potter! You can register for these classes on the member web as space is very limited.

FITNESS & HEALTH CLASSES New classes for this fall are DANCE FIT which starts back on October 1st and will meet every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00am-10:00am. Immediately following is our very popular SIT N BE FIT class from 10:15am-11:15am. The cost of each class is only $5 or you can sign up for the unlimited option for both classes. Starting on October 9th, we will start our first TAI CHI class from 11:00am-12:00pm every Wednesday following the fun ZUMBA GOLD class from 9:45am10:45am for $7/class or save with the unlimited option. All fitness classes are in the suites on the 2nd floor at the Ocean Club and conveniently charged to your member account.

GRANDE LIFESTYLE at the

CLUB

The autumn season is upon us and for me that always brings back memories of growing up in the northeast with extreme temperature drops and the leaves on the trees changing into beautiful reds and golds, but soon dropping to the ground. Despite the fact that we are in the autumn months, lucky for us here in the Grande Dunes because of the pleasant temperatures, we are still in full swing of enjoying “summertime” outdoor activities. We have the opportunity to be playing golf, having dinner on the patio, swimming in the pool or enjoying a walk along the beach. At the Members Club we have plenty of activities for members to enjoy. Lively social events, good food and golf. We have brought back the Sunday NFL Ticket, which should seal your Sunday afternoon plans! Our Trivia nights have become quite popular and Grapenuts is an enjoyable evening of fabulous food and wine. The opportunity for competitive and fun golf takes place October 10-13 at Our Member/Guest tournament and our Turkey Shootout is the day after Thanksgiving. If you aren’t a member of the Members Club, our membership team would love to show you all the wonderful things we have to offer, which will surely add to your already “Grande” lifestyle at Grande Dunes. Don’t forget for a limited time we are still offering an incentive of 20% savings on the full pay of initiation fee for golf-level memberships. Annual installment options are also available. If you have friends interested in membership or you are looking to upgrade, be sure to take advantage of the savings and this opportunity to join. Contact us at 843-839-1603. We hope to see you around the club!

They don’t need to be touring homes physically in Myrtle Beach for it to be seen. The variance in the number of homes sold in June to November is 9 homes per day. That’s for the entire Grand Strand. June 2018 was 32 homes closed per day and November 2018 was 23 homes per day. That variance is even less when taking a whole quarter into account. So, don’t approach selling a home with a mindset stuck in the 80’s. Our market sells homes year-round and if you’re on the market yours could be the next one!

THE CAPE

Delightfully Unique Coastal Living One of the most requested types of architecture we hear about in the Grand Strand is all-brick “Cape Dutch” architectural style. As you might’ve heard, it’s hard to find “bricks on the beach.” With The Cape, we couldn’t be happier to offer these unique homes to the Grande Dunes community. The Cape, an incomparable neighborhood located within Ocean Village, offers a unique pathway to coastal life. Traditional Homebuilders Inc. is pleased to build these highly desired customizable homes just blocks away from the beach. Residents enjoy everything there is to offer in Myrtle Beach including near by dining, shopping, entertainment and medical facilities. The Cape is an opportunity unlike any other, but here’s the catch – there are only 57 homes available! As you could imagine, these homes are estimated to sell in a flash, so contact us at the Sales & Information Center TODAY to learn more.

COMMUNITY NEWS Homeowners' Association Updates from Waccamaw Management

If there are any questions or concerns with the structure of security and their role in Grande Dunes, please contact Waccamaw Management. COMMUNITY ASSOCIATIONS: PREFERRED PLACES TO CALL HOME June 4, 2018 — Falls Church, VA — Community associations, commonly referred to as homeowners associations (HOAs), condominiums, and housing cooperatives, remain preferred places to call home for millions of Americans, according to the 2018 Homeowner Satisfaction Survey, conducted by Zogby Analytics for the Foundation for Community Association Research (FCAR). The majority (90%) of survey respondents say their association's rules protect and enhance their property values (62%) or have a neutral effect (28%). Eighty-four percent of those surveyed expressed that neighbors elected to the governing board “absolutely" or “for the most part" serve the best interests of their communities. Nationwide, 63 percent of surveyed homeowners and condominium association members live in single-family homes, followed by 17 percent who live in condominiums and 14 percent who live in townhomes. Zogby, the independent polling and research firm, used random sampling to identify association residents and asked them to rate their homeowners association

Community association residents in the data sample commented on other association benefits: • Nearly 73 percent of residents said their community managers provide value and support to residents and their associations. • Most common monthly assessments are in the $100–$300 range, with condominium assessments slightly higher than homeowner’s association fees (17 percent are more than $500 per month). • In addition, more than half of respondents nationwide (54%) feel they are paying just the right amount in assessments. • Two-thirds of surveyed homeowners and condominium association owners have, at some point, attended their community association board meetings— with the majority attending four board meetings per year. • More than 60 percent of respondents believe that associations should insist that all homeowners pay their assessments, and attorneys should be involved, if necessary, when homeowners are delinquent in paying their assessments. “Community associations remain an essential component of the U.S. housing market, and—once again—a large majority of Americans who live in community associations report that they are happy and satisfied in their communities," says CAI Chief Executive Officer Thomas Skiba, CAE. “The most recent survey validates that the majority of homeowners believe their CONTINUED NEXT PAGE

SECURITY UPDATES

COMMUNITY NEWS boards are serving their community, that their fees fall within a reasonable range, and that being a part of their community association enhances and protects their property values." Today, 69 million Americans live in 342,000 common-interest communities, according to the 2016 National and State Statistical Review for Community Association Data. From city-sized, master-planned communities and multi-building condominium complexes to urban cooperatives and small homeowners associations built into small tracks of open suburban spaces, the new survey findings also show that homeowners want to see less—or at least not more—government oversight and control of community associations.
