LIV IN G GR AN DE Dear Residents, It seems that for many people, things start to slow down during these chilly, early days of the year. But in Grande Dunes, the fun is just getting started! We’ve been having a blast in 2020 so far, and there is much, much more to come. We’re excited to introduce our new Ocean Club Events and Sales Manager, Lisa Mitchell! Lisa has an incredibly successful career in the hospitality industry, raising the bar on exceptional service. We’re thrilled to have her join the Grande Dunes family. Speaking of the Grande Dunes family, one of our all-time favorite spots will soon re-open! You guessed it, the Anchor Café will reopen Spring 2020. Stop by to check out some big improvements including new renovations and a new menu! Stay tuned for even more updates on the Anchor. Everyone in Grande Dunes is so excited about the upcoming Waterway Hills Village. Plans are well underway, and we have something truly spectacular in the works for this new section of our community. We can’t wait for you to see what’s coming. You’ll find more information in this issue. Throughout the past few years, our on-property venue Marina Park has been the host of some great family-friendly events. Well 2020 is ramping up to top all previous years before with a full roster of events, including new concerts, parties, concerts and movies! What better way to enjoy the beautiful Myrtle Beach outdoors than with your neighbors and entertainment? There is a lot happening in Grande Dunes this year. In fact, there’s never been a better time to invite your family and friends to experience life in our community! We hope you enjoy this issue of Living Grande, where you’ll find upcoming events, real estate updates and snapshots of our residents! Together, we’re making a Grande Year Ahead! See you around the community! Sincerely, Margaret LaCalle
Margaret LaCalle Division President, LStar Ventures Coastal North
On a Personal Note
In this issue of Grande Living, we want to extend a special congratulations to Margaret LaCalle, Coastal North Division President of LStar Ventures, Grande Dunes’ development company. On January 30, Margaret proudly became an American citizen! Anybody who has the pleasure of knowing Margaret already knows this is a huge accomplishment for her. Such an honor could not have gone to a nicer person. You may have seen Margaret at one of our Marina Park events or just around the community ensuring everything is going, well, Grande. We wanted to share a bit about one of the people behind all the amazing things that happen in Grande Dunes. Margaret married an American who was stationed at a local Air Force Base. On May 11, 1987, they moved to the US with their son, Christopher. After being stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver for four years, Margaret and her family then moved to Miami, FL in 1991. She then moved to Myrtle Beach in May of 2017. In 2019, Margaret decided to become an American citizen. She worked and studied hard, learning about the founding fathers, former presidents, our Constitution and how our entire government works inside and out. Finally, less than 90 days after filing

her INS application, she took the oath to become an American citizen. “I cried, I laughed and I thanked God for giving me this incredible opportunity to become an American. I could not be more proud, humbled and honored. Finally, after 33 years, I can call America my home. Thank you for allowing me to share this journey with you,” said Margaret. We’re proud to call Margaret our neighbor, friend and fellow American! If you see Margaret around the community, be sure to congratulate her for achieving her dream.
NEWS FROM THE
D EVELOPER
We anticipate the traffic light installation to be completed in or around September 2020.
LI G H TI NG THE WAY TO SAF ETY New Traffic Light at Grande Dunes Boulevard & Kings Highway to Deliver a Safe Path to the Ocean Club LStar Ventures is pleased to confirm that the staff at the City of Myrtle Beach, as well as council members for the City, have approved the traffic light installation at Grande Dunes Boulevard & Kings Highway. Before construction can start at the intersection, City staff will be performing the required pre-construction meeting with their awarded contractor. The pre-construction meeting will occur in the month of February with underground infrastructure starting shortly thereafter. The timeline for the completion of this work will be based upon the delivery and installation of the mast arms that hold the actual lights. Currently, these mast arms have a lead time of approximately eight months, so city staff will place the order immediately. Subject to weather, we anticipate the traffic light installation to be completed in or around September 2020. LStar thanks everyone at the city who helped get this initiative approved. We are very excited about this much needed traffic light being installed at this intersection and are happy our residents will be able to drive their golf carts or walk along Grande Dunes Boulevard to the Ocean Club. We will continue to update you as information is available to us.

Meet
Karren and Javier Torres
This month we spoke with Karren and Javier and got to know more about their lives and why they love Grande Dunes!
HOW DID YOU TWO MEET AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOGETHER OR MARRIED? We met in Maryland over 15 years ago while attending a business meeting.
DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS SUCH AS CHILDREN, PETS, GRANDKIDS, ETC.? We have two amazing children currently attending Kennesaw State University: a 22-year-old daughter majoring in her last year of education and a 20-year-old son in his second year. We also have a rescue Chihuahua-mix named Lucky.
WHAT DO YOU EACH DO FOR A LIVING, OR IF YOU ARE RETIRED, IN YOUR PREVIOUS LIFE? We own a facilities maintenance company in Maryland. We provide janitorial cleaning, landscaping, facility maintenance and janitorial supplies to our clients in the Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia areas. We started the business over 13 years ago and have over 200 employees. Our prior employment included Javier working at Xerox Corporation as a sales technician, and Karren working at Oracle Corporation as a sales engineer.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE PAST TIMES AND HOBBIES INDIVIDUALLY AND AS A COUPLE? Karren enjoys gardening, bowling and photography. Javier enjoys traveling and meeting people. We both love attending church, baseball and taking drives on a beautiful afternoon or evening.
WHAT’S ON YOUR COMBINED BUCKET LIST OF THINGS YOU’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO DO? Open a restaurant with live entertainment from local artists and
WHAT IS ONE THING THAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT EACH OF YOU? Javier once owned a disco for college students while in college. Karren comes from a gospel-singing family and loves writing poetry, photography and singing.
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO MYRTLE BEACH AND HOW MANY YEARS HAVE YOU LIVED HERE? Although we bought our property five years ago, we have officially lived here for the past 3 years. We were looking for a place with milder season changes, we were both drawn to the Southern Charm and the ideal proximity to Florida, Georgia and Virginia coastlines.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT LIVING IN GRANDE DUNES AND IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD? How friendly the people are, how aesthetically pleasing the neighborhood is maintained, and the many planned activities that are available to participate in.
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL FAMILY AND FRIENDS BACK HOME ABOUT THE OVERALL “LIFESTYLE” IN GRANDE DUNES AND WHAT ACTIVITIES HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED IN? This is a place where you can absolutely take a deep breath and exhale! The climate is amazing, there is great food, wonderful people and lots to do. You never have to worry about a traffic jam on the “beltway”! We are involved in our Weekly Neighborhood Fellowship Group, we also have memberships at the YMCA, Members and Ocean Club.

Karren was born and raised in Chattanooga, TN. She earned degrees in Computer Science and Accounting from DeVry Institute of Technology. Javier was born in Puerto Rico and raised in New Jersey. At the end of the past year, a highly anticipated long wait finally came to an end and the much needed bunker renovation began. Many of us eagerly anticipated this long-awaited course improvement and we're happy to see it begin, but there is even more anticipation of when it will be completed! Things are going well with the reconstruction. The golf course will remain open with play limited to the 9 holes that the team are not working on, therefore, we will always have 9 holes open and available for Members to play. Already we have seen with this renovation the playability of the new bunkers are greatly improved, especially after a rainfall, which we recently experienced. This bunker renovation is just one aspect of our continuous effort to deliver excellent playing conditions to our members and their guests.

Lisa comes to our community after a long, successful career in the hotel and hospitality industry, working for organizations in some of the country’s top destinations including New Orleans, Washington DC and Hawaii. At her most recent position, Director for Spruce Lake located in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains, she strategically maintained levels of hospitality to ensure all guests had an exceptional experience. Through her training and coordination, her team executed retreats for 33,000 people and over 530 groups annually. Lisa worked closely with her teams and coached each member to ensure everything was running smoothly and that there was always every event and occasion went exactly as planned. We are so excited to see Lisa apply the same amount of professionalism, creativity and enthusiasm to her new role at the Ocean Club! She has such a great spirit, and we couldn’t be happier to have her on board. “I’m excited to call Myrtle Beach my new home, and to bring fresh, exciting ideas to the Ocean Club,” Lisa said. If you see Lisa around the community, be sure to give her a Grande Welcome!

There are a couple of vegan entrees, a kid menu and desserts including Lemon-cello cake and double layer chocolate cake topped with Bailey’s Liquor. There is always so much information that could be given and doing that research is a passion of mine, so I invite you to drop by any time to get the right information tailored to your interests. If you’re in a hurry or just want the information sent over to you just shoot me an email. In summary, last year was very active and continued a trend in real estate sales that would be called healthy. Good, steady growth. For 2020, we expect more of the same, but with the added excitement of several new opportunities to share with you and the buyers considering calling Grande Dunes home.

New Owners Lining Up 2020 is here and The Cape at Grande Dunes is “roaring,” as new home construction is beginning! Homeowners are lining up for their chance to reserve one of our limited number of homesites, as everyone knows this is a truly unique opportunity. In fact, there are over a dozen reservation holders currently working with The Cape’s builder, Traditional Homebuilders. Together, they are designing gorgeous dream homes in this Ocean Village neighborhood. “The location, the all-brick exterior and the builders’ fine reputation has us very excited for the next chapter in our life,” said John and Judy W, new homeowners in The Cape. People love “bricks on the beach,” and the positive reception to The Cape has proven that! The customizable “Cape Dutch” architectural styling offered by Traditional delivers a unique experience that’s rare to find. But don’t wait, there are only 57 lots available in this new neighborhood! Please stop by the furnished model in Cipriana Park for more information.
