Company Thanks to the 50-year long experience, De Carlo is the most appreciated company in Italy with reference to wood and wood-aluminum windows. Windows, sliding windows, lift and slide doors, shutters, front doors, curtain walls available in the traditional lines (“arte” collection), classic lines (“classic” collection) and contemporary lines (“design” collection), for every kind of opening (sash, slide, pivot, awning, bull’s-eye). De Carlo’s partners of the sales network have got a long-time experience in designing and making windows and special doors, from the design of the best solutions for the customer to the assistance for the installation, including the management of the building site measures. Moreover, the technical office assists the customer in planning and testing the thermal and acoustic parameters of the house, in compliance with the national legislation, in order to protect the technical and commercial partners’ responsibilities. Logistics, assistance and installation We take the utmost care of the different stages of this service, from the preparation of the product to the handling and transport up to the building site. The new packing system for the windows provides the covering of the whole product, taking particular care of the corners where a shaped cardboard shell and a resistant shrinkable film provide a high protection against the possible impacts during the management of the windows in the building site. Besides, the labeling of each piece gives all the information about the product and its dislocation in the installation department. A great number of vehicles that serve all the national territory and that are exclusively dedicated to customers, assures maximum efficiency, rapidity and care during all the stages of products transport. “The Guide for Windows� with the instructions about how to use and take care of the windows will be delivered together with the windows and a personal code of identification to facilitate any request for assistance after sale.
Skilled and specialized technicians assure the installers’ training according to the peculiarity of the sealing joint between the window and the wall, so as to assure air and water tightness between frame and counter-frame, and to avoid the noise diffusion.

Finishing The colored coating contains particular pigments which, seeping through the wood, avoids its alteration caused by the UV rays so preventing from any contaminations of fungi and bacteria. The intermediate coat stabilizes the wood fibers in order to limit the micro-variations of the window dimensions caused by the variability of the weather conditions.

The application of the external and of the intermediate coating is carried out in a flow-coating systems, which assures the complete and accurate painting of the window in all its parts. The hand sanding of all the windows makes the surface extremely regular without any roughness, to enhance the beauty of the window. The finish, carried out in electrostatic equipments with a controlled atmosphere, grants the right quantity of painting on the window in order to assure a perfect covering and protection of the wood so exalting, in the same time, the beauty of the material.

NANOTECH FINISH
De Carlo, after an exclusive and successful experimentation, is the first company to use a particular water paint, which is the result of a process based on nanotechnology, for the finishing cycles. Thanks to this new technology, the covering particles are 1000 times smaller than those of the traditional water paints. The optimization of these chemical-physical characteristics of paint assures a better adhesion of the paint to the roughness of the wood. All this grants a longer life and an excellent preservation of the esthetic features of the product.

Testing of the finishing through the Simulated Weathering Equipment
Product testing laboratory A research project made in collaboration with the Pro.Ge.S.A. department (Planning and Management of Agricultural and Forestry systems) at the University of Bari, has given life to a lab in the same plant, promoting the research and development of finishing products. Every day the lab, provided with state of the art equipments, represents the best and continuous way of checking the whole finishing process: from the verification of acceptance of the finishing products, to the control of environmental parameters of the finishing system; from the evaluation of suppliers and of the proposed painting cycles, to the quality control of the applied finishes. For the most demanding customers, the existent equipment allows the supply of customized colors thanks to a spectrophotometer and an associated tintometric system. The activities concerning development and experimentation widely improve the knowledge about the combinations of different kinds of wood and paintings by using a system for simulated weathering conditions, which simulates, in a short time, the effects of weathering (rain, UV rays, humidity, thermal variations) on the finish.

The air quality in your home
Laminated Wood The laminated product is obtained from three layers of wood glued together with crossdirectional fibers so as to balance the natural tension of the wood structure and ensure the stability of the window/door. For each kind of wood used, pine, mahogany, oak, Douglas, larch, walnut, teak, specific drying parameters are established in collaboration with qualified suppliers, in order to ensure a durable product.
Ensuring clean air in your home is essential, especially for your health. Much has been already done by removing unhealthy substances from building materials such as lead, asbestos, formaldehyde etc... However, even now, in our houses there are many pollutants. Volatile chemicals released by some products, windows, plastics, paints, rubber materials, new furniture, are harmful substances which can affect the air quality inside the house resulting severe diseases. As for pollution due to such materials it is important to opt for more natural products: hemp wool for insulation, wood for windows, water-based paints, etc... Even though in Italy there are no standards monitoring VOC (volatile organic compounds) emissions, De Carlo group has tested its products according to the international standard examination so as to ensure its windows are “healthy”. De Carlo windows have VOC emission levels of class A+* (tested according to the UNI EN ISO 16000-9). A “label A +” is the guarantee of a healthy air in your living space. *Information about the emission level of volatile substances in the air inside the house that present a risk of inhalation on a scale from A+ class (low emissions) to C (high emission level) - Ministry of Ecology Decree of the French Republic, April 19, 2011.

Wind resistance
It’s the peculiarity of a closed window not to let the air in when a difference between internal and external pressure occurs. The main manufacturing characteristics of De Carlo’s windows which ensure air tightness (see the test certificate in compliance with UNI EN 1026) are: the stability of sashes and frames ( made of laminated wood and cross-directional fibers); the perimeter sealing of the glass; the opening system with a hardware provided with different locking points; the joining system with an airlock; a double gasket made of anti-wear thermoplastic elastomer (resistant to fields of application which go from -40° to 120°C).
It’s the window capacity of avoiding the infiltration of water even with a strong wind. It’s the hardest test, because the window is hit by an high pressure water jet. The water loss recorded at a particular level of pressure allows the classification of the window in its tightness class; De Carlo’s windows are tested in order to reach the highest level of tightness (see test certificate in compliance with UNI EN 1027).
It’s the capacity of resisting to strong pressure and/or depression, as for those caused by the wind, keeping an acceptable deformation and preserving its propriety of protecting the users’ safety. The window undergoes hard and heavy differences of pressure in order to test if its functional characteristics are perfectly preserved. In compliance with UNI EN 12210, the window can be classified into five classes as regard the wind pressure; De Carlo’s windows have successfully passed the tests of C5 class (the highest class of performance, see test certificate).

Thermal Transmittance (U-value)
Rw: it’s a soundproofing standardized index measured in Decibels (db). The bigger is its value, the higher is the insulation; it is, however, necessary to remember that the scale of this coefficient is logarithmic and it’s important to underline how, for instance, an insulation of 35 db means to half the intensity of the sound in comparison with an insulation of 32 db. The characteristics of sound insulation of wood are unquestioned, but the soundproofing capacity of the window depends on the glass; De Carlo’s glasses Denergy maximize the insulation performances up to the value of noise abatement (Rw) of 40 db. These performances, tested in compliance with the International Standard ISO 140/30 in the reverberant double room of De Carlo lab, allow the acoustic comfort of the house even in case of heavy external noise pollution (city traffic, passage of vehicles, outdoor workplaces).
Breaking-in and entering attempts are made using hand tools, for example screwdrivers, pliers and/or shims. The aim is to unhinge the sash from its frame or to break the glass to reach the handle. In addition to the standard safety characteristics of De Carlo’s windows, including the multi-locking point hardware, the customer can ask for a higher anti-intrusion coefficient (PLUSCR2-CR3 base)* with safety glass (in combination with oak wood), a specific handle with a safety button or with removable keys, anti-intrusion hardware, and finally, a alarm system set up. The resistance class is established by the methods of testing according to the time we need to open the window (see UNI ENV1627). De Carlo’s anti-intrusion windows grant high levels of safety, preserving the same characteristics of thermal and acoustic insulation and the style of the Classic, Art and Design Wood lines.
More than 30% of the heat loss in a house passes through the windows. In order to minimize the heat loss, the external elements of the building must have a low value of transmittance. The thermal transmittance of windows (Uw) represents the average between the thermal transmittance of the frame (Uf) and the one of the glass (Ug). The declared values of transmittance are the results of tests and evaluations made in compliance with the European Standard UNI EN 14351-1 for EC marking. All De Carlo’s windows are fit for the energy certification of any climate area; the “Klima” lines reach coefficients of thermal transmittance suitable for eco-labeled Class A+ buildings. The class of energy needs of the building is determined by its architectural characteristics, which in turn the lines of De Carlo’s windows are fitted to.

Protection against the sun
Most of the heat in a house tends to go outwards; the 40% of this loss passes through the windows. The multi-layers insulating Denergy glasses, which are standardized on every De Carlo’s window, present a low-e coating that allows the preservation of the heat inside the building. As a result, the expense for the heating will be reduced, increasing the comfort of the house.
Even in summer the heat intensity can be controlled so as to take maximum advantage of the big glass surfaces of the house all year long. Assuming that a traditional low-emission glazing produces a loss of 76% of the sun’s heat, it is better to use a thermo-regulating glass. De Carlo’s Denergy double glass is a thermo-regulating glass thanks to a special invisible coating with a capacity of reflecting and/or non-reflecting the sunlight which is higher than that of the ordinary panes. In winter, on the contrary, it preserves the heat inside the house.

The aluminum finish made with epoxy powders in compliance with Qualocoat standards; finishing cycle with hand sanding and acrylic resin-base finish in water emulsion, UV filter finish, De Carlo’s 10-year warranty. Double gasket on clipped frame for thermal and acoustic insulation (of thermoplastic elastomer) resistant to aging, weathering, fine dust emissions, UV rays. Co-extruded internal gasket with rigid layer, tear-proof cord and flexible gasket components in order to soften the impact of operation. The double layer glasses are installed with a glass-to-frame dowelling on the frame. Exter Glass The Exter Glass line is characterized by laminated wood sash and frame with glass cladding. Aluminum-clad on the frame for French doors and windows (welded or assembled aluminum upon customers’ request), AW 6060 alloy with open junction for ventilation in order to avoid condensation inside the system, finish made with epoxy powders in compliance with “Qualicoat” standards. Sashes with tempered glass cladding in the sliding version and windows/French doors available in the Glass version (anti-accident multi-layer glass Denergy, low-e for thermal insulation, double glass 8 tempered-15-33.1; triple glass, 8 tempered - 12-4-12-33.1 for Exter plus version). Sash with aluminum glassholder and Denergy low-e glass in Hidden Glass version. Double gasket inserted into the frame for thermal and acoustic insulation (made of thermoplastic elastomer) resistant to the application fields from -40 to 120°C, and to aging caused by weathering, fine dust emissions and UV rays. Co-extruded internal foam gasket with rigid layer, tear-proof cord and flexible gasket components in order to soften the impact of closure. The double layer glasses are installed with a perimeter glass-to-frame dowelling. Opening mechanisms with multipoint hardware made of steel with copper-zinc parts and mushroom bolts for the perfect cohesion between sash and frame, with Tricoat treatment for better resisting corrosion and other atmosphere agents such as saline fogs and acids. Three dimension hinges in order to grant the right functionality even after possible adjustments occurring after installation.

Anti-intrusion Hardware
Most of the break-in attempts is performed by occasional burglars acting mainly in the afternoon and evening, preferring doors and windows as entry points. The most frequently (70%), they use very simple and rudimentary tools (small screwdrivers or levers), which act on the locking points between sash and frame whose resistance is often won in few minutes. In order to thwart the burglary, prolonging the time it takes to break in, so discouraging burglars, it is often sufficient to insert some simple devices on the frame which slow the burglary
so as to avoid an easy entry inside the house. Due to this, on De Carlo’s windows it is possible the application of both simple devices such as tear-proof bolts and the preparation of real anti-intrusion systems, with degree of resistance in conformity with CR2 and CR3 certificates. Performance levels CR2 and CR3 correspond to a resistance of three minutes against the attacks with small levers (screwdrivers and wrenches), and 5 minutes against the attacks with a crowbar.
Self-adjusting bolt • It does not need adjustment, in presence of anti-intrusion rebates automatically adapts itself to the rebate profile (+/- 2 mm). • Easy handling thanks to the hardening of the material and the special coating. • Compatible with both flat counter plates and anti-intrusion counter plates. • Certificate for the resistance to burglary. All De Carlo’s windows are provided with standard hardware with self adjusting bolts.

Warranty The product warranty goes beyond the standard two-year warranty required by law because De Carlo’s wood and aluminum windows offer considerable benefits in terms of reliability and durability. The warranty validation must be carried out simply by recording the customer’s name and the order code directly on the website www.decarlo.it within 60 days from delivery (even with the Dealer or the Agent’s help). De Carlo, on delivery, shall give the guide for a proper use and care of windows, containing lots of practical advices.
