From the Grand Chef de Gare The holidays are upon us and that means we are about to welcome in a new year. So when you raise a glass to cheer in the year 2019, you need to take a moment to reflect on your contribution to your Locale this past year – and to determine what card is in your wallet – if it is a 2018 card, your membership in good standing expires December 31st. How many promenades did you attend, did you buy any pins, attend a Grand function? Of course, we understand there are valid reasons for nonparticipation of the inability to contribute as you might like – but what if you could have? Let’s be honest, membership and interest in the Forty and Eight in the State of Texas is waning, we are dropping about 20 – 25 members each year and not just through Taps. With the exception of a small list of Locales, new membership is down. It is time to slam on the brakes, stop this decline and with the coming of the New Year, resolve to recommit yourself to La Societe and help us grow by bringing in a new member.
Volume 61 Issue 4 Chef Gavel once and big gavel twice. Attendees will also be able to get my Grand Chef pin, they came in the week after the Fall Cheminot – but I have them now. People must like it, I’m getting requests from all over the country for one. My congratulations to Locales 266, 605 and 1055 – all 100% or over. V-175 is very close however most others are struggling. I’ve already got a personal phone call from our Area Membership Directeur pleading for us to do better and I made a commitment and promise we will improve. I have pins from Nationale to present to Locales that made 100% last year and those so far this year, those go to each Locale Chef de Gare and Correspondant. We’ll do that at Merci Boxcar and membership will be emphasized. Have all Correspondants sent in a certification of officers? We still do not have a complete list of all Chefs de Gare and Correspondants and contact information. Again, I would like to see a Voyageur of the Year submitted for each and every Locale to Grand – so easy to honor the one Voyageur Militaire who is making a difference. You should be receiving this prior to the Winter Cheminot – Merci Boxcar. Similar arrangement as last year, same hotel. The dates are February 22 – 24. I encourage as many of you that can to go. We will try to make it a little fun and I will do my best to protect my new gavel, both little and big.
