December Maintenance Course Closings
From the Desk of the Director The fall season is in full swing. The weather has been very pleasant and the courses are filling in very well from the recent over-seeding which took place October through November. I’m especially excited about the Island greens. This is the 3rd season that we have opted not to over-seed the greens and just do the fairways, tees, and rough. The result has produced a very healthy turf grass that should prove to be very playable going into peak season. We’ve also secured a new golf course maintenance equipment lease that will allow us to get some much needed equipment starting the end December. The overall course conditions will be greatly affected in a positive way with this acquisition. You will now notice that there are Gold tee markers on the Island and Copperhead golf courses. The yardage from those tees is around 5700 yards for both courses. Don’t forget to sign up for the Larry Packard Winter Classic, January 3 and 4 and the MemberMember, January 23 and 24, the spots will fill up fast so sign up early.

Be sure to congratulate Dr. Ron Avis on his very first hole-in-one on November 9 on the North course hole # 12, 110 yards with his 9 iron. That’s all for now. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions or concerns.

One for the Records!! A R A R E G O L F F E AT B Y I M G A F O U R S O M E What’s rarer than a hole in one? A three under par double eagle also known as an “Albatross”. What’s rarer than a double eagle? When a foursome has all of the par or better scores ON THE SAME HOLE! In the IMGA Friday event on November 7, playing the par 5, 13th hole on the North course, Scott Bossart carded a double eagle; Clyde Trudeau an eagle; John Nash a birdie and Nic Wahl par. They were 7 under par as a team on the one hole and scored what has to be a record 20 stableford points. Congratulations to All for this AMAZING feat.

Table Talk with Chef Andrew Coniglio Eggnog Bread Pudding Eggnog is one of those things we only see this time of year and there are different ways to use it other than drinking with rum. This is a quick and easy dessert that you can do to add something different to your traditional pies for dessert. If there is any leftover it is great eaten cold.
Yield: 8-10 portions • 1 Pound- White Bread or Dinner Rolls (rough chop, leave crust)
• 3- Large Eggs (beaten)
• 2 Cups- White Sugar
• 2 Tablespoons- Vanilla Extract
• 1 Quart- Eggnog (warmed on stovetop or microwave with rum)
• ½ Teaspoon- Baking Powder
• 2 ½ Tablespoons- Butter (or margarine)
• ¼ Cup- White Rum (optional, alcohol will cook out during baking)
• 2 Teaspoons- Cinnamon
• 2 Teaspoons- Nutmeg
• 1 Cup- Dried Cranberries (or raisins)
Method 1.) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2.) In mixing bowl blend eggs with vanilla extract, baking powder, nutmeg, cinnamon and sugar. 3.) In a larger mixing bowl put in your bread and pour your warmed eggnog and rum over and mix. 4.) Add your egg mixture and dried cranberries to large bowl with bread and combine ingredients.
6.) Cook for 30-40 minutes or until firm and brown on top (use a knife to poke the middle to see if cooked all the way through). 7.) Let sit for 5-10 minutes and serve warm with caramel sauce, ice cream or whipped cream.

5.) Melt the butter and pour into 9x13 inch glass casserole pan and pour ingredients into pan.

Nature Watch: Warblers
Written and photographed by Golf Operations Dave Noel The last day of the fall banding season was bitter sweet. As
a team of dedicated volunteers we show up every Sunday morning at 6 am to hastily set the 10 nets up before daylight. The Owls give a couple hoots just before light to tell us it’s time to set our watch for every half hour to check the nets. The woods come alive with bird sounds as day broke. In the tree tops above the banding station we saw Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Black-throated Blue Warbler and Philadelphia Vireo gleaming for food. The cool birds down below netted were the Hooded Warbler, Magnolia Warbler, Palm Warbler, Common Yellowthroath, Carolina Wren, Northern Cardinal, Bluejay, Indigo Bunting, Eastern Phoebe and the vocal Grey Catbirds.
Join us again in the spring as we will again go six Sundays in a row at the Dunedin Hammocks city park.
pipeline | 19
Thanks to the many people who came to the station this fall to check out the information Mr. Jim gathers from each bird. Almost everyone was able to release a wild bird that came to the station. The group of professional volunteers work as one to ensure every bird is handled with care. Also thanks to the City of Dunedin allowing us to gather important migratory information at the Hammocks park for the last five years. Jim will have the stats on his blog soon at hammockbirdbanding.wordpress.com.
