Member-Guest Golf Tournament

Reunion Resort would like to thank all the participants who took part in our Ninth Annual Member-Guest Golf Tournament October 8-12. It was great to see all the familiar teams as well as some new competitors joining in the fun.

Overall Men’s Flight Shoot-Out Winners: Congratulations to Kenneth Sentel & Elijah Sentel

Overall Flight Winners

Historically, the Member-Guest participants experience some form of inclement weather; however, this year we were very fortunate to have the Golfing Gods watch over us during tournament play. Many of the same contenders came back for another attempt at the title of Member-Guest Champions, as well as many new faces that were experiencing this magnificent event for the first time.

Overall Ladies Flight Shoot-Out Winners: Congratulations to Janet D’Entremont & Margaret D’Entremont

As any participant can tell you, it’s all about pacing yourself! Our staff did their very best

in organizing a truly first class experience, not only on the golf course, but right into the night for the fantastic themed events each evening. We greatly appreciate all of the members and guests that took part in our annual event and made it so successful. There were three intense days of golf played by 150 participants and nine flight winners that advanced to the final shoot out. This years’ shoot out took place on Palmer #16, #17 and #18. This year we decided to crown two overall champions: Men’s and Ladies.

The ladies shootout, between Janet D’Entremont and Margaret D’Entremont and Leslie McLatchie and Paulette Mattia was on hole #17. This shootout came down to a clutch putt made by Janet D’Entremont to take it into a chip off for the overall Ladies title. Janet D’Entremont stepped up again with her first chip claiming their victory. Congratulations to this year’s winners! Once again thank you to everyone that attended our ninth annual Member-Guest Tournament. We look forward to seeing everyone participate in next year’s MemberGuest, which will be October 7-11, 2015.

gath erings | 5

The shootout started on hole #16 for the men, where three teams were eliminated. On hole #17, the men were down to four teams, and then two teams were eliminated leaving the last two teams to battle it out on hole #18. Those two teams were Kenneth and

Elijah Sentel and Paul Westerman and David Thompson. The winning putt was made by Elijah Sentel to claim the Men’s Championship.

Brad Holmes

Brad Holmes Receives Reunion Club Member Recognition Program (MERP) Award for October Earlier this year, a group of Members on the Tennis, Recreation, and Events Committee worked with Reunion Management to establish the Member Employee Recognition Program (MERP). This Member initiated program provides us with an opportunity to recommend employees performing exceptional service for a monthly award. At the November Member Reception, Brad Holmes was honored with the October MERP award. Brad is the Chef de Cuisine in the Clubhouse and has been with Reunion since March 2012. His ballot read “Food is always great. New selections he makes up are always superb. Beyond good food, his personality and attitude make you feel as if he has prepared the meal just for you. He always comes to check how the meal is going and if he can do anything else. He makes the whole dining experience all the more enjoyable. Brad is truly a great asset for Reunion Resort.”

Although only one employee receives this monthly award, all of the employees nominated receive peer and management recognition at special employee breakfasts throughout the year.

Next time you see Brad, thank him for the way he performs his position as Chef in our clubhouse. You can submit a ballot for an employee who has demonstrated exceptional service at any time – not just within the month the service was performed. MERP ballots are available at all Reunion outlets or click here to access and submit a ballot online. Your online explanation is limited to 500 characters.

gath erings | 17

These comments emphasize that Brad possesses the skills of an outstanding chef who knows how to provide Members with exceptional service.

Brad was given a Reunion gift card and a special name tag that symbolizes him as a MERP recipient. He will be considered along with this year’s other monthly MERP recipients for the annual award which is a two-night stay in any one of the three Florida Salamander Resorts.

Inside T H E L I N E S

Beating the lob For most tennis players, a lobber is one of the most daunting opponents they can face. This style of player will stay out on the courts all day just waiting for you to make a mistake. In this article, I will give you three things that you can do to help eliminate a majority of those lobs.

gath erings | 28

First and foremost, you must be patient when playing a lobber. You will be tempted to go for too much and to try and end the point with the wrong shot; keep it in play and move this player around. Another shot that most club players don’t think about hitting is a mid-court volley from “noman’s-land”. This will eliminate you having to back up to the fence to defend the lob’s high bounce, also giving you a good aggressive move towards the net. Most times this shot will come back as a weaker lob where you can then put the overhead away.

Lastly, a lobber loves to be where? The baseline! If you hit a drop-shot, you will force them to move forward, taking them out of their comfort area. You will find that most lobbers are not very good net players where you can then give them a piece of their own medicine… a lob. Remember, work the points, be patient, use mid-court volleys, and bring them forward and you will conquer your worst enemy.
