innisbrook pipeline

Dear Members, I would like to officially welcome everyone to summer Innisbrook. Let me start by wishing all of our dads a very happy Father’s Day. June brings us lots of exciting and fun family activities. Be sure to take advantage of our ‘100 Days of Summer’ menus at Market Salamander Grille and Packard’s Steakhouse. Beginning June 8, Innisbrook offers its tennis, golf and day camp programs for our younger members. As our six-month enhancement process to the Copperhead Course is underway, our three other courses will remain open while Copperhead undergoes its enhancements. For more information about our June activities, ‘100 Days of Summer’ menu or our camp programs, please contact your membership office. Our public relations team has also been hard at work getting the coverage for Innisbrook and our sister properties. We are excited to share these great stories about our properties: Innisbrook’s classic Copperhead Course undergoing renovation, Examiner.com People on the Move, HOTELS Magazine People on the Move: Nancy Murphy, Orlando Business Journal Top 10 Top 10, LINKS Magazine Here’s to a happy summer! June Maintenance Course Closings

The last round on Copperhead was played by left to right Christine Malmgren (President IWGA), Greg Perenich (LAC), Patti Corbett (LAC), and Bill Perkins (Condo Association). The foursome will be the first to go out when the Copperhead reopens.

From the Desk of the Director of Golf: The Copperhead Restoration Project is underway and running smoothly. The greens have all been enlarged back to their original size; this will allow more pin locations and preserve the overall quality of the greens throughout the year. Greens #9 – #18 have been cored out 16 inches and we’re in the process of adding drainage to the greens. Once the drainage has been installed, 4 inches of gravel will be added as a drainage base followed by 12 inches of greens mix. This greens mix is made up of 85% sand and 15% organic material. The last layer will be the putting surface which will be a new strain of Tiff Eagle. The dirt from the greens is being used to raise the fairways on holes #2 & #3. In addition to raising the fairways, additional drainage will be installed to reduce standing water in this low lying area. We have also begun removing sand from all the bunkers. This sand will later be used to topdress fairways and tees once all the sprigs are planted. We are also in the process of reshaping the bunkers to get them back, as closely as possible, to the original Larry Packard design. We have also begun to install the new, state of the art, irrigation system on the back nine. This system will have a 6 inch mainline (HDPE pipe) throughout the entire course. After the mainline has been installed, we’ll install 2 inch lateral pipes with additional sprinkler heads. This new technology will give us more sprinkler coverage and use 11 million gallons of water less per year!

pipeline | 4

The safety of our Members’ and resort Guests is a priority and we’d like to ask everyone’s cooperation during Copperhead’s restoration project. Understandably, as a work site, there will be many things that would be deemed as hazardous such as heavy equipment, hose lines, pipes and stakes. The large machinery being used is not equipped with safety devices and the operators are typically not watching for pedestrians. Cart paths on the course are being cut to install large irrigation lines, which again, could pose a very dangerous situation for anyone walking or riding along the path. So for your safety please refrain from walking, jogging or biking on or around the course during this time. Updates will be sent at various stages to keep everyone posted on the progress. Thank you for reading and enjoy your summer.

Innisbrook Wins First Men’s Interclub Championship History was made on Thursday May 7, 2015 when a determined team from Innisbrook broke the drought and won the 2015 Pinellas County Men’s Interclub Championship for the first time. The Interclub started in 1978 and Innisbrook joined in the early 1980s. For over thirty years, the men competed and came up short. Not this year – the victory is truly a team effort as the format would suggest – each golf club brings 10 players consisting of 1 golf professional and 9 members competing in (5) two-person (1 low net of two) teams. A team led by PGA Head Professional, Kyaw Htet (69) along with Innisbrook members: Mike Wells (57 w/Kyaw Htet), Steve Mihalek & Pete Reynolds (62), Barry Nelsen & Steve Whalen (60) Joe Corbett & Ted Tober (60), and Jeff Pett & George Howard (63), posted a convincing score of 302, a 5 shot victory over Pasadena CC and four other clubs who qualified for the Championship. Team captain Don Coughlin has waited 12 years for a victory and asked the team to win one in memory of Andy McAdams who had signed up to play in the Championship and Clark Carnaby who was team captain from 1994-2003. The nine-month long season needed others to assist. Multiple tournament participants included: Clark Bradley, Jeff Davis, Mike Millhouse, Peter Minogue, Jim Perivolaris, John Wellard, and Jeff Wohlford. Other participants throughout the year included Al Aucoin, Ray Boland, Mike Frisoni, Dave Garringer, Norm Karam, Ron Peretti, Gail Selby, Glenn Stone, and Tom Yacko. Innisbrook will receive the trophy for display during the coming year and be a symbol and a challenge to retain it next year. Congratulations to all who made this the most successful season ever!

Our initial dates for the Member Guest event were over the weekend of November 21 & 22. Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts those dates did not work. As our focus for the Member Guest event is to deliver a new and improved event the dates selected are Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30. The choice of these dates will allow for many of the things we have planned to happen. We did want to get notification out to the Membership as quickly as possible so plans could be made by our Members and their out of town guests. We’re very excited about the event and promise to have more information out to everyone as soon as all aspects of the event are finalized.

Table Talk with Chef Andrew Coniglio Chicken Roulade Everyone can grill, bake or pan sear a chicken breast, but to make things more challenging (and fun), make a roulade. I have used this recipe in restaurants and at home and it is great served with pasta and a simple marinara or red pepper sauce. Yield: 2 portions • Chicken Breast (8 OZ) 2 Whole Double Lobe • Basil Pesto 1 Ounce • Artichoke Hearts (Canned) 4 Ounces • Shallot (Small Dice) 1/2 Whole • White Wine (Dry) 4 Ounces

• Goat Cheese 3 Ounces • Bread Crumbs 2 Ounces • Chicken Broth 8 Ounces • Salt & Black Pepper To Taste • Cooking Oil 1 Ounce

Method of Procedure 1 Clean Chicken Breast and flatten with meat mallet gently without creating any tears in the meat 2 Season with Salt and Pepper, rub with Pesto and set aside 3 Rinse and chop Artichoke Hearts, dice Shallots 4 In sauté pan, heat Oil over medium flame, add Shallots and cook until translucent, add Artichoke Hearts and cook for 2-3 minutes 5 Deglaze pan with white wine and reduce until evaporated, remove from heat 6 In a bowl combine Artichoke/Shallot mix with Goat Cheese and Bread Crumbs 7 Place each Chicken Breast on plastic wrap (skin side down) and place filling in the middle

9 Bring Chicken Broth to a simmer and add Roulades, cook for 10 minutes (165 degrees) 10 Let Roulades sit for 5 minutes and unwrap

pipeline | 15

8 Roll Chicken Breast and wrap tightly by rolling on table, in plastic, and tying the ends, put in fridge and let sit a minimum of 2 hours to have them set

a little about us

We are a team of passionate and dedicated counselors, whose priority and motivation lies in bringing happiness and fun to your children. Certified in CPR and First Aid, we provide a safe yet exciting and educational camp experience while you remain confident in their safety and well-being.

Camp Nessie headquarters

Camp is located on the second level of the Tennis and Recreation Center, but that is just the beginning! We utilize a variety of venues throughout the resort including educational nature trails, miniature golf course, basketball courts, playground, volleyball courts and more, including the legendary Loch Ness Pool and its 2 winding waterslides*. *Must be a minimum 42” tall to ride waterslides with signed waiver

What To bring To Camp

To make sure campers get the most out of their day, please send children with swimwear and proper sunscreen (30+spf recommended). Towels are provided. Active shoes are recommended for playtime activities and a change of shoes or sandals can be brought for pool time.

Typical Camp Session**

We begin each day with morning welcome icebreaker games, getting to know counselors and campers. It’s always a full and fun schedule of crafts, games and learning. Then it’s time to head outdoors for adventure on our nature trail, mini golf course and playground. After getting cleaned up, we enjoy a fresh and delicious lunch as a group. After lunch, we begin the afternoon with a tram ride to the Loch Ness Pool for pool games, activities, sliding and swimming. Back at camp, it’s time for some indoor active games, including racquetball, wallyball and more. **Activities may vary depending on age, abilities and skill levels of all participants. Indoor programs are always available to keep children active and engaged in case of inclement weather.

Nature Watch: Eastern Bluebirds

p i p e l i n e | 30

Written and photographed by Golf Operations Dave Noel Scott and Amy Johnson have created a safe haven for the Bluebirds here at Innisbrook. Three new birdhouses were installed behind the 13th T box on the Copperhead course. Scott designed the cedar boxes better than the specifications with extra ventilation and easy clean out. The opening and groves in the face of the box are designed especially for Bluebirds. A high percentage of Eastern Bluebirds in North America today nest in birdhouses put up especially for them. These new nesting boxes were a success the first year as new chicks emerged. These beautiful Bluebirds are non-migratory, meaning they live here year round. Small family flocks can be found behind the tennis center, along the 5th hole of the South course and Copperhead holes 12-14. The indigo male displays beautiful brilliant royal blue colors. Scott was captivated by the male bluebird perched on top of his nesting house at the 150 yard marker on a Hilton Head course. Thanks Scott for bringing this idea to Innisbrook.
