Valued Members, Despite over 10 inches of rain this past weekend, the Copperhead Restoration Project is moving along nicely. Irrigation and Drainage have been completed on Holes 11 through 16. In addition to Drainage and Irrigation on these six holes, all perimeters around the Greens and Bunkers have been sodded. The process of sodding around the Greens and Bunkers helps to avoid erosion and cross contamination. The Bunkers were filled with brand new G-Angle Sand; this is the same white sand we enjoyed last season. Greens on these six holes are also complete. Greens were cored out 16 inches and then filled in with 4 inches of gravel, drainage and more gravel. This allows a small amount of water under the drainage to promote a strong root system but drains away excess water through the drain. The remaining 12 inches were filled in with a Canadian Peat Green’s Mixture made up of 85% sand and 15% organic material. Sand allows the water to drain and the organic material absorbs the necessary moisture needed for healthy growth. Finally, the greens were sprigged with Tiff Eagle Bermuda Turf and are currently taking root. We originally had hoped to sprig all the tees, roughs and fairways on these holes but due to the amount of rain this week, we have pushed it back one week. If Mother Nature cooperates, by the first week of August the above process will have been completed on holes 10, 17 and 18 and would have the entire back nine completed. Weather permitting, the front nine would take approximately two weeks to complete. This would have the entire course completed by middle/end of August. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed!

“ From within the Innisbrook Tee Box” by Director Member Challenge and their invited guests participated of Golf Instruction, 66in theMembers first Innisbrook Member Challenge held on Sunday, July 19. The event was open to Innisbrook Dawn Mercer Members and Guests at all skill levels. Each 4 Have you ever been told to “hit down on the ball” or “compress it”? I agree angle is necessary for quality ball striking but most golfers are misunderstood on how to go about it. Golfers have a tendency to dive their posture or throw the club down early to the ball creating a steep angle of attack without much swing speed. A club reaches maximum extension when in line with the lead arm.

To strike the ball first, then the ground, swing the club smoothly back and through towards the target but allow your hands to lead the grip handle to the ball first so the club extends after the ball. Practicing short irons out of a fairway bunker is a great way to fine tune your impact to the ball. For questions or scheduling instruction, feel free to contact me at dawn. mercer@playinnisbrook.com.

Table Talk with Chef Andrew Coniglio Stuffed Gourmet Burger Labor Day is the wind-down from summer and the best way to do this is a Grill-Out with family and friends. Every does burgers and dogs but why not change up the normal Hamburger and try it with a little gourmet touch. I would recommend 80/20(lean to fat ratio) Ground Chuck. The reason I always stick with Ground Chuck for burgers because it is the most flavorful with the perfect lean to fat ratio. I also try and stay away from plain Ground Beef because you don’t know what muscle the meat comes from and can be very inconsistent. If you are looking for a leaner burger you can go with Ground Sirloin or Ground Round. Yield: 5 burgers • 2 Pounds Ground Chuck • 1 Cup Chopped Cooked Bacon • 1 Cup Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese • 4 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce • 4 Teaspoon Roast Garlic Puree • 1 Teaspoon Kosher Salt
• 1 ½ Teaspoon Black Pepper • ½ Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper • 2 Tablespoon BBQ Sauce • 2 Tablespoon Granulated Onion Powder • 1 Teaspoon Dry Mustard
Method of Procedure p i p e l i n e | 18
1 Mix all ingredients in bowl. 2 Wrap bowl and refrigerate for a minimum of 1 hour. 3 Form 5 hamburger patties and grill to desired temperature. 4 Serve on toasted Kaiser or Hard Roll and add your favorite condiments.
Nature Watch: Marsh Rabbit
Written and photographed by Golf Operations Dave Noel
pipeline | 19
Marsh rabbits live at Innisbrook, but are difficult to spot. Their dark coat provides the camouflage they need to feed in open marshes. They are generally nocturnal, sleeping during the day and eating at night. Even so, alligators, snakes, bobcats, and raptors all enjoy a rabbit meal. If a predator appears, the rabbit may thump the ground with his hind foot to warn others of danger. He might also head for water by running rather than hopping. He is a good swimmer and does so with just his eyes and nose showing. The female may have up to two dozen young per year. Many of these will be food for predators. Unlike most other rabbits, the marsh rabbit can walk on his hind legs.
