But the history of this 192-year-old company encapsulates so much more. Founded in the board rooms of the east and maturing in the west, Wells Fargo is interwoven into not just the history of the West, but the entire nation. The company was present in the California Gold Fields, Nevada’s Comstock Lode and innumerable other gold and silver strikes. Wells Fargo is closely associated with the transportation of gold and silver coin and dust, express delivery, mail, including the Pony Express and banking. But there is also much more. Join us as we review the early history of this company, its ability to transform itself with the changing times and its unique leaders who guided the company through prosperity and hardship.

Some we know a lot about: December 1, 1955-Rosa Parks sat in the wrong bus seat, December 7, 1941-Pearl Harbor Day, December 10-Hanukkah (this day fluctuates yearly), December 17, 1903-The Wright Brothers first flight, December 21- Winter solstice, December 25-Christmas Day, etc. These and many other events change the course of history for America and the world. This presentation by Ken Sorensen will go through the days of the month and highlight social events and historical events, birthdays and death days and other celebrations. Come and hear about the month of December throughout history.
WYETH FAMILY: A FAMILY OF ARTISTS ALLEN REAMER

He did not come from an artistic family, but he became a nationally known illustrator. N.C.’s artwork transcended illustrations to become fine art. While his son Andrew, and grandson Jamie are the best known, and both became an instant success in New York, there are many other Wyeth artists. In this lecture, we will look at the lives of this family of artists and their works of art. We will begin with N.C. and continue until we run out of time.

But even if it doesn't, it will make you more aware of your actions as a driver and how to stay safer on the roads. There is a $20 materials charge for students who are AARP members and $25 for non-members that is paid by cash or check made out to AARP and given directly to the instructor. Be sure to bring your Driver's License to class.

Examples of this procedure as shown through several landmark cases will be presented to illustrate the process.

You’ll experience cheese making in Modena, truffle hunting and noodle making in Pettino, and architectural grandeur in Florence. You’ll see awesome tile work in Ravenna, the worldrenowned hams of Parma, horse races in Siena, the towers of San Gimignano, the porticoes of Bologna, and a white marble quarry in Carrara. All this and more in a presentation using pictures, video clips, and appropriate captions. Gary will even tell you a tale about a hunt for gold!

GINGERTALKS: BOB DYLAN UNTANGLED - POET, ARTIST AND NOBEL LAUREATE GINGER SWARTZ
Meets 1 time on Wed 12/7/22 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM FEE $15 For many of us who grew up in the 60s, Bob Dylan is known as a prophet. Others have ignored him as music and discounted him as a poet. This program will focus on Dylan as a writer of literature, and as an artist and poet. Discussion will move from the freeform poetry of his book, Tarantula, and his memoir, Chronicles: Volume One, to his ballads and poetry. We’ll talk about his influences, from T.S. Elliot to John Steinbeck and Jack Kerouac and discover what literary scholars and critics say about selection from the more than 700 songs he has written and focus on several of his more well-known “poem songs”.

Meets 1 time on Thur 12/8/22 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM FEE $15 When Spanish explorer Pedro de Tovar reached the south rim of the Grand Canyon in 1541 he was sure no one would ever visit it again because of the difficult terrain. The same opinion was voiced by Lt. Joseph Christmas Ives reporting on his steamboat expedition in 1857. However, by the 1870s artists like Thomas Moran began to make the public aware of the canyon’s grandeur. In this class we’ll follow leading artists and photographers as they displayed their love for the canyon for more than a century.
UNDERSTANDING THE HOLOCAUST JOEL LASSMAN
Meets 1 time on Thur 12/8/22 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM FEE $10 The Holocaust was the ideological and systematic state-sponsored persecution and mass murder of six million European Jews. Millions of others deemed undesirable were also murdered. It is
defined as genocide and though genocide has occurred throughout history, the Holocaust was unique. In this class, I will discuss the meaning of genocide and why the Holocaust was distinctively different. In addition, I will talk about what led up the start of World War II in Germany, what my parents endured during the Holocaust and as the son of Holocaust Survivors, how my life was influenced by those experiences. There will be an opportunity to ask questions both during and after my presentation.

This year, the Arizona Legislature approved $1.2 billion as a downpayment to address this situation. In addition in created an organization entitled WIFA - Water Infrastructure Finance Authority - to start solving our upcoming water crisis. This class will investigate this initiative to assess whether it is likely to be able to ensure our water future in Arizona.
