Take out the glad rags! The Sun City Grand Dance Club is happy to host our second New Year’s Eve Variety Dance. This year we will be dancing to the versatile Desert Brew Band. This lively 5-piece band plays a variety of tunes from sultry, smooth and rock songs to favorites of ballroom dancers, country western dancers, and just-plain-folk who want a New Year’s Eve with friends. The group pays close attention to pleasing and connecting with the audience. The Dance Club will take over the Cimarron Nightclub for a cash bar, in addition to the Agua Fria and Gila Rooms for dancers. Appetizers will be served but you are welcome to bring soft drinks and snacks. Dancing begins at 7 p.m. and ends when the ball drops at midnight in New York – that’s 10 p.m. here. The Sun City Grand Music Club is proud to present this tribute to many of the great performers associated with the modern folk music revival. It begins in 1944 with Dust Bowl Troubadour Woody Guthrie and his memorable “This Land is Your Land” and ends in 1974 with John Denver and “Back Home Again.” In between you will hear the Kingston Trio, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, the Brothers Four, the New Christy Minstrels, Gordon Lightfoot, the Limeliters, Peter, Paul and Mary, and many others. The Music Club voices will be accompanied by guitars, banjos, mandolins, bass, conga drums and more. This will be a trip down memory lane like no other. Your foot will be tapping, and you will be smiling and singing along from start to finish. Directed by David Durham. Guys and Dolls is based on a story & characters by Damon Runyon and is about a couple of bigcity gamblers and the women who love them. It tells overlapping stories of a high roller, who falls in love with a mission worker, and a lovable rapscallion, who has been engaged 14 years to a headliner at the Hot Box Club and runs a famous floating crap game. An ongoing plotline involves the quest for a safe place for the crap game; as the headliner continues her quest to get married. Meanwhile, the mission worker mistakenly believes that the high roller set up an illegal game at the mission, as she tries to fight her affection for the charismatic crapshooter.
