FROM THE GENERAL MANAGER
SCG’S SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY Kenneth Olson, CMCA, AMS General Manager
A hive of bees is a perfect example of a community working together in harmony and for the common good of all its residents. After all, a bee living alone can barely survive, let alone prosper. But in a hive made up of hundreds of other bees, each taking responsibility for the various jobs necessary for the survival of the community, the lone bee not only survives, it contributes mightily to the success of the hive. The secret of the bee’s success in living together in a close-knit community is that each bee not only understands the interrelationships that exists between it and the rest of the residents of its community, but is willing to accept some of the responsibility for the hive’s prosperity by expanding their role in the community whenever necessary.
community assets and our property values, each resident of our community has to acknowledge their role in Sun City Grand and, at times, be willing to expand their part to take on some added responsibility. For example, we all must obey our governing documents; we agreed to do that when we closed escrow. By following community rules and regulations, we contribute to our community and accept the role of a rule-abiding resident. Annually, we elect our Board of Directors, although we don’t have to participate in the election process, choosing to do so contributes to the success of our community. Our role as a rule-abiding resident expands to include that of a voter. We also have the opportunity to attend our Board of Directors meetings to better understand the business decisions made by the Board. When we choose to attend those meetings, our role as a ruleabiding voter now expands to include that of a participating resident. And when we choose to serve on community committees or
the Board of Directors, we accept another role and become a rule-abiding, voting, participating and contributing residents. By standing as a leader or being an active resident of Sun City Grand, your voice can be heard to create a stronger community. There are many benefits to being an active and engaged resident. Primarily, your input assists the decision makers in representing the interests of Sun City Grand residents. Your voice can be heard by engaging and attending Board and Committee meetings and workshops or participating in Chartered Clubs and Interest Groups. As an involved and informed resident, your perceptions are formed by this dynamic process. A nonengaged resident must rely on others’ perceptions of what is happening in the community. We are committed to working together and building a strong community, like the bees. We encourage all residents to participate and assist in building a strong community here at Sun City Grand.
As homeowners, we too can choose to recognize the interrelationships that exist between ourselves and our neighbors and how those interrelationships have a direct impact on our quality of life. We can take some of the responsibility upon ourselves to contribute to improving those relationships, and in the process improve our community. For our community association to continue to protect, preserve and enhance our
CONVERSATION WITH KEN
The Conversation with Ken session provides a good opportunity for homeowners to bring questions to the General Manager and engage in discussion in a casual format. July and August Conversation with Ken has been cancelled. Next Conversation with Ken will be held in September at 6 p.m. in the Palm Center.

Thank You...Sun City Grand Volunteers FROM THE BOARD PRESIDENT
Many thanks to the more than 100 Sun City Grand Volunteers who have agreed to work on several new Board Ad Hoc Committees in the coming months. Welcome Desk Activities Concierge Desk n Membership Concierge Desk n Standards Office Customer Service n n
Ellie Brooks Board President, SCG
At the Special Board Meeting on May 18, 2018, seven (7) Board Ad Hoc Committees were selected for 2018. Three (3) are Board only committees dealing with the Board/CAM Relations, CC&R Exhibit C updates and Employee Compensation. Four (4) committees provide for residents involvement and participation. The Committee’s involving residents involvement include: COMMUNICATION IMPROVEMENTS COMMITTEE
This committee started meeting in mid-June. Their goal is to develop proactive plans to attend to the communication challenges in Sun City Grand. Many of our current communication tools are listed below: n Sun City Grand Website n Grand Lifestyle Monthly Magazine n Board Meetings and Workshops n Chat with the Board n Live Streaming of Board Meetings and Workshops n Board Advisory Committee meetings n Weekly & Daily Eblasts from Staff n Neighborhood Rep Emails n Plethora of Meeting Minutes on grandinfo.com n Conversation with Ken 12
Yet, some residents do not feel connected to the community information and news. This committee will evaluate all means of communications within Sun City Grand and make a recommendation to the Board on how to improve Board, CAM and Resident communications. SPACE ALLOCATION COMMITTEE
Space in Sun City Grand is at a premium, and many Chartered Clubs are feeling the "pinch." This committee will research how our current space is utilized, what opportunities there are for expansion within the existing footprint of Sun City Grand, and how to best manage the space going forward. Over seventy-five (75) residents have volunteered to help improve the efficient use of
our buildings and rooms. FACILITY USE COMMITTEE
Facility use is not to be confused with Space Allocation. This committee is looking at requests for nonresident use of our existing sports courts and other facilities. The research questions include: n Should Sun City Grand allow Chartered Clubs to organize tournaments that will bring hundreds of non-resident players and spectators into our community? n Should Chartered Clubs be allowed to have standing policies that allow nonresidents to participate in their weekly activities? n Should Sun City Grand allow other Independent Living Centers, like the Colonnade, to use our facilities and amenities? At the Forum on June 18 and after 200 emails from residents, the resounding answer from
residents is unfavorable to the idea. The Board needs to craft a Board resolution to represent the desires of the Community. DESERT SPRINGS SNACK SHOP & SOCIALIZATION AREA
The Desert Springs Snack Shop and Socialization Area is an exciting project that was discussed for three or four years. The committee is exploring the possibility of expanding the Desert Springs Snack Shop to provide expanded seating, a new socialization area and a potential high technology center that would offer new amenities. These amenities are not just for golfers, but for bikers, walkers and other residents who want to drop by for some food, beverages and time with friends! Watch this fall for Townhall meetings where you will have a chance to provide your thoughts and hear about the designs and ideas. Ellie Brooks Sun City Grand Board President

7. Golf courses delay play on frost-covered turf (especially greens) because stepping on frost-covered grass causes the frozen leaf cells to rupture. The turf will turn brown and eventually die. 8. The Old Works Golf Course in Anaconda, Mont., is the first golf course built on an Environmental Protection Agency Superfund Site. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the land served as a smelting location for the mining of iron ore. The golf course opened in June of 1997. 9. Why do golf course superintendents aerate turf? Because it reduces compaction on a golf course by removing soil cores from the ground, allowing the movement of water, air and nutrients to the turf roots. Highly traveled areas plus poor soil composition creates compacted surfaces. 10. What is the origin of the stimpmeter? In the early 1900s, a man by the name of Edward Stimpson was looking for a means to create more fairness in the game of golf. Specifically, he was looking to make putting surfaces on a particular course all relatively the same speed. He developed the stimpmeter to achieve this purpose. By using this device, he could determine, for example, if the fourth green was the same speed of the 17th. The device is often misused and misinterpreted by the novice and avid golfer alike. It is best used to compare greens on the same course, NOT to compare greens from one course to another.
11. How much has technology and research improved speed and quality of a putting green? In the early 1960s, professional tour event superintendents cut putting green turf heights at about 1/4 inch. Today, the height of putting green turf for professional tournament competition is 1/8 inch or less. 12. How do trees affect the quality of a putting surface? All things being equal, a putting green with air circulating around it will be in better shape than a green with little or no air circulation. Trees tend to reduce circulation, thereby having a negative effect on putting green quality. Older, more mature trees adjacent to putting greens will negatively impact surface conditions because the tree roots will grow under the putting surface and disrupt the flow of water and nutrients. 13. What is a golf course superintendent doing when he/she syringes a green? Syringing is the process of spraying a light cover of water on a green during hot weather to reduce the temperature of the turf. This prevents putting surfaces from becoming “baked” and “dried-out,” and having a negative impact on putting surface quality. 14. What is topdressing? It is the practice of spreading material over a putting green to level and smooth the surface. The material is generally sand and/ or organic matter that improves drainage, controls thatch and maintains biological balance. 15. Since its emergence as a major spectator sport in the 1920s, the game of golf has provided lifelong recreational opportunities and enjoyment for millions. Beyond its sport and recreational value, golf is a major industry that generates jobs, commerce, economic development and tax revenues for communities throughout the country. The national golf economy was $76 billion at last count in 2005, and the total economic impact of golf in America in 2005 was $195 billion, including direct, indirect and induced impacts. FROM THE FITNESS MANAGER
BEWARE THE LADDER! I love to highlight the successes of our members when they utilize SCG Fitness to better their lives. This month, member Mark Wood shares his story: muscles in every direction. Lovely! The ER orthopedic surgeon decided not to operate as it was determined that the fracture "just might heal" on its own.
Allison Adams Fitness Manager
One of the many lessons we learn in life is to look both ways before crossing; you don’t always get what you want; your friends will always be there for you and that concrete is most unforgiving. Oh, that concrete thing? Well, on January 4, 2018, I was rudely reacquainted with that absolute truth when I fell from a ladder landing on my right side on my garage floor. Yep, man abruptly meets concrete. The fall had driven the head of the femur ball into the socket with sufficient force to crack bone and stretch tendons and
After three weeks in a wheelchair I slowly graduated to a walker moving on one leg. I visited an excellent physical therapist and learned the critical exercises for my particular injury. They strongly advised me to take full advantage of the SCG pools, hot tubs and exercise equipment. My first trip to the Adobe Fitness Center in my walker required six rest stops from the curb into the pool area before I could maneuver down the disability ramp. Once in the pool, I felt like a child floating about on my two noodles. My right side was useless and I floated about helplessly, but the weightless factor of the water was a welcome blessing. I longingly eyed the hot tub, but it would
be another month before I would even think of tackling those steps into the water. In the Adobe gym, I started slowly on the Recumbent Bicycle. Only a few minutes at first, but slowly increasing the time pushing the pedals. In a week, I added time on the SCIFIT recumbent stepper. Over the weeks, I improved. I kept working on just moving, pushing through the pain when possible. Each day consisted of 40 minutes of exercises before I finished dressing. One memorable day, I decided to put both feet on the bottom of the Adobe pool and attempt to walk. I took three of the most wonderful, faltering steps of my life, pain free! Admittedly, it was an emotional moment. I could walk! Six weeks after the fall, the fracture had healed sufficiently to exchange the walker for a cane. I overcame the challenge of the steps into the pool and hot tub. By mid-March, I stored the cane and could walk without assistance. I had recovered. I don’t know what the future
18
will bring. Remember... you don’t always get what you want? Am I 100% post injury? Not at all. The intricate system of tendons and muscles that overlay the thigh will need more time to heal. Some swelling persists. My leg gets tired and soreness comes and goes. Nevertheless, I’m walking normally and I’m dedicated to getting better. Also, there were some unforeseen benefits in all this. I now have a lifetime of daily exercises with swimming, gym workouts and walking routines. Not a bad prescription for a healthier life. So, in the end, I can only say that some of the critical keys to recovery, at least in my case, are persistence, commitment and general defiance of succumbing to pain. I know I must keep moving. Lastly, never fall prey to the "I can’t" monster. If you think you can’t..... TRY! In the words of Richard Bach: "Argue for your limitations and sure enough they’re yours." Mark Wood SCG Resident

DAY 2
ABOUT THE
ACOMA PUEBLO The world Acoma and related words which are equally correct and historically applicable–Akome, Acu, Acuo and Ako- denote “a place always prepared.” There is a great difference of opinion as to the age of the Acoma Nation. While traditional Acoma oral history reflects on a time far beyond our imagination, a time of creation and emergence onto this world, the Acoma people have always known of a special place called “Haaku,” a spiritual homeland prepared for their eternal settlement. Recent excavations on Acoma Mesa tend to suggest that Acoma was inhabited before the time of Christ. Archaeologists agree that it has been continuously occupied from at least A.D 1200. Acomas claim always to have lived on their mesa, hospitably receiving wandering tribes to share their valley which, at one time, had plenty of water and was excellent for farming.

ABOUT THE
EL MALPAIS NATIONAL MONUMENT For more than 10,000 years people have interacted with the El Malpais landscape. Historic and archeological sites provide reminders of past times. More than mere artifacts, these cultural resources are kept alive by the spiritual and physical presence of contemporary Indian groups, including the Puebloan peoples of Acoma, Laguna and Zuni, and the Ramah Navajo. These tribes continue their ancestral uses of El Malpais including gathering herbs and medicines, paying respect, and renewing ties. The monument contains a diverse volcanology of lava flows and associated features dating from 115,000 to 3,000 years old. Sandstone bluffs and mesas border the eastern side, providing access to a vast wilderness. Close inspection reveals unique ecosystems with complex relationships. Or go underground and experience the diversity of life abounding in lava tubes. Connect to past times as you travel ancient routes and explore old homesites. www.desertusa.com/elmalpais/ 23

GRAND LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION
Contributed and Written by: Nancy Foy SCG Resident
The ladies of the 18-hole golf league at Sun City Grand have given generously for many years to programs and events that are charitable in nature. These include food banks, cancer programs, the Armed Services Support Group, Eve’s Place, Maintenance Staff Holiday Lunch and Junior Golf for girls at local high schools. This season (2017-2018) was an exceptional year for giving from these Grand Lady Golfers. The golf league has supported a food drive for many years. In 2015-2016 we gave the Valley View Food Bank over $5,555 dollars. This year we donated to the Valley View Food Bank $8,600 and 1779 pounds in food. When you consider a $20 donation it will feed a family of 3 for six days, our contributions went far this season. We also give our used shopping bags to the Food Bank to help with the distribution of food items to
those in need. This money is collected from November through the first week in May each season. Our goal was $7,500 this season and we exceed that amount. This can only happen with some great volunteers here in GRAND and members of GLGA. Our thanks to the chairpersons of this event, Jill McLean and Barbara Cox. Their committee of ladies rallies the membership each week to make this fundraiser and very needed community project a success. Also, during our league year on one of our Tuesday play days we hold a golf event for another charity. In February this golf event was held for the Southwest Kids Cancer Foundation. This is a nonprofit organization providing a camp experience for kids with cancer and their siblings. This was the first year we supported this charity. Its funding was
terminated by the National Cancer Society several years ago and they have continued to operate through great leadership and determination. This one-day event for the GLGA ladies raised $10,000 for this charity. Again, very special ladies make this happen and Norma Dokken and Lisa Pelletier were the chairpersons for this. It takes a committee to accomplish this level of success, and Norma and Lisa recruited well. We will be supporting the Southwest Kids Cancer Foundation with an event again this next season. We feel our GLGA members will step-up once again, in 2018 – 2019 to help our community and the many families that are touched by these two special agencies. Kudos to the ladies of the Grand Ladies Golf Association for giving back to their community.
WEEDS Friendly Reminder from Standards
We all want to maintain the beauty and cleanliness of our homes in Sun City Grand. We also recognize that there are many things that impede us in this common desire. The intrusion of nature in the form of weeds is certainly on top of our list. Weeds do nothing but detract from the effect we sought to achieve when we landscaped our property. Please help us to help you and your fellow owners by ensuring that your property stays free of these unsightly intruders. Grand Lifestyles | July 2018 | grandinfo.com

51ST ANNUAL 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATION IN SIERRA VISTA Day One: Sierra Vista’s rich military history and legendary patriotism, combined with breathtaking mountain views in all directions and a mild climate year-round, make it the premier destination for an Independence Day Celebration! We’ll head south; with a stop in rowdy Tombstone for a 4th of July lunch on self. Back on the bus, we’ll enjoy a scenic drive through the rolling grasslands of Southern Arizona, as we make our way to Sierra Vista. We’ll check into our hotel, and after a refresh, we’ll gather for our own Happy Hour, and then head out to The Texas Roadhouse for dinner on self. Pack your lawn chairs. We’re setting up camp at Veteran’s Memorial Park, where we’ll enjoy an award winning fireworks display. Day Two: Breakfast is included at the hotel. Then it’s bags out and we’re back on the road headed for Ramsey Canyon. Nearly tropical, with a spring-fed stream, northeast orientation, and high canyon walls, Ramsey Canyon offers a moist, cool environment unusual in the desert southwest. We’ll take some time to enjoy this variety of plant and animal life; water loving plants just a few feet from desert cacti. Later we’ll head back into Sierra Vista for lunch on self, at the restaurant of your choice. After lunch it’s back on the bus, and we’ll high-tail it for home, enjoying some great stops and incredible scenery along the way. Don’t miss out on this fun holiday tour! *This trip is offered in conjunction with TJ Travels. GRAND CABARET AT SONORAN PLAZA: DAN REED, BOBBY VAN ROOY & THE CC RYDER EXPRESS BAND Bobby Van Rooy and the CC Ryder Express Band are popular performers at Barleens and other large venues throughout the state. Adding Dan Reed on trumpet is just icing on this musical cake. Bobby also plays the saxophone and flute and performed with Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers for several years after Bobby Hatfield’s death. That’s why his rendition of Unchained Melody stays true to the original version. This is another feel-good show that reminds us why we loved those classic songs that hit the charts from the 50s on up through the 80s. With its cabaret-style table seating and giant screens, patrons have that up close and personal connection to the performers. Great opportunity to visit with friends before the show or make new ones! Day Two: Our group will enjoy a private hot buffet breakfast, included, before jumping back the bus headed for Mesa Verde National Park. Spanish for Green Table, Mesa Verde offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years, from AD 600 to 1300. Today the park protects nearly 5,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States. We’ll also enjoy lunch on self at The Far View Terrace, offering a wide variety of choices and local favorites, such as Navajo tacos. Late afternoon, we’ll return to our hotel. We’ll enjoy a free evening and dinner on self. Day Three: Again, our group will enjoy a private hot buffet breakfast, included. After breakfast, it’s back on the bus headed for Durango, just 20 minutes away. We’ll board the Durango/Silverton, a historic train on 45 miles of rails originally laid in 1882, between the railroad-built town of Durango, and the mining town of Silverton. We’ll travel along the Animas River through wilderness inaccessible by any road! We’ll arrive in Silverton, Colorado, a National Historic Landmark, with plenty of time to enjoy lunch on self, with several great little restaurants to choose from. We’ll also explore the charming downtown area, home to unique shops, art galleries and historic architecture. WALNUT CANYON NATIONAL MONUMENT & 1899 BAR & GRILL Walnut Canyon was established as a National Monument in 1915, to preserve numerous cliff dwellings located along the limestone ledges of this deep canyon. Evidence of human use of these dwellings can be traced back 2,000 years. The presence of water in this dry land made the canyon rare and valuable to its early human inhabitants. It is a beautiful and interesting place to explore, and a great escape from the heat of the Valley. We enjoy lunch on self, before heading into the Canyon, at the 1899 Bar & Grill in Flagstaff. TAD PRESENTS: PROJECT PRESLEY— A SALUTE TO THE KING Chance is a multi-award winning “Elvis Presley Tribute Artist” with more than 25 years in the “Elvis Entertainer Business.” He has been a part of the Elvis Presley phenomenon since the late 1980s, when he was first discovered in Southern California by non-other than Bill Medley of the musical super duo “The Righteous Brothers.” Chance is also alumni of the award winning Las Vegas celebrity look-alike production shows, LEGENDS IN CONCERT, AMERICAN SUPERSTARS and SHOWSTOPPERS LIVE! His secret is believing it’s not so much the voice that is most important, but it’s knowing how to become the man himself on that stage! It’s basically the attitude of Elvis Presley. Shy but confident…knowing exactly what he’s doing! Chance isn’t ’Rich Little’ or ’Jimmy Fallon’ doing a ’spin’ on Elvis Presley. He’s Chance Tinder, the actor, recreating a character – much like actor ’Joaquin Phoenix portraying ’Johnny cash,” or entertainer/actor ’Jamie Foxx as the great ’Ray Charles.” Through all of Chance’s experiences in show business, none has given him more gratification and fulfillment than paying tribute to his childhood hero, the legendary “KING OF ROCK ’N’ ROLL – Elvis Presley! $20/person Front of House | $17/person Back of House 6:30 p.m. Cash Bar; 7 p.m. Performance Sonoran Plaza

PETRIFIED FOREST NATIONAL PARK & TURQUOISE ROOM Fred Harvey civilized the American Southwest by introducing fine dining and impeccable service to railroad travel. Harvey developed and ran the hotels and restaurants of the Santa Fe Railway that grew into a hospitality empire. Built in the 1920’s in Winslow, Arizona, La Posada is the last of the great railroad hotels, and a fascinating tour all unto itself! We’ll enjoy lunch on self, at La Posada’s Turquoise Room. James Beard Award winning Chef John Sharpe oversees the dining room, considered to be the finest restaurant in the Four Corners region. Don’t let all these accolades fool you—lunch menu prices at the Turquoise Room start at $7 and top out at $18. After lunch it’s back on the bus headed northeast to Petrified Forest National Park, which is located in the greater Painted Desert—they are not two separate parks. While the Painted Desert encompasses about 1500 square miles, the park is about 150,000 acres—and not desert! The natural world of Petrified Forest is far more complex than it seems on the surface. Located near the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau, the park is part of an amazing geological region which includes a Rainbow Forest of colorful petrified wood. TONTO NATURAL BRIDGE & EL RANCHO We’re heading for Payson to explore Tonto Natural Bridge State Park—home to the world’s largest travertine bridge. This natural arch stands over a 400 foot long tunnel that measures 150 feet at its widest point and reaches a towering height of 183 feet, presenting a beautiful and dramatic sight. The Tonto Natural Bridge was first documented by David Gowan, a Scotsman, who discovered the location in 1877, while hiding from hostile Apache tribe members. He was so moved by the beauty of this site that he persuaded his family to emigrate and make this area their home. They lived near the bridge until 1948, and their lodge building still stands and is listed in the Register of Historic Places. We’ll stop for lunch on self before heading into the park at El Rancho, named by Arizona’s Highways one of top 25 restaurants in the state. ASK CAPPIE THE COMPUTER CAT
Do you have a slow
COMPUTER? PART 2
Last month we discussed several reasons why your computer might be running slowly and ways to rectify the problem. This month we will focus on some simple cleanup methods to make your computer run like new. Here are some things you can do: Change your Recycle Bin settings or clean it out periodically. Every time you delete a file (word document, spreadsheet, photo) or folder (which contains files), those deleted items go into the Recycle Bin on your Desktop. Windows does not erase the deleted files by default. The deleted files will stay until you tell Windows to empty the bin. (Right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose the option “Empty Recycle Bin”). Check every so often to make sure your disk space isn’t being used up by files and folders you no longer need. You can also change the properties/options of the Recycle Bin. To do so rightclick on the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop and select Properties. In the Recycle Bin properties window, you can tell Windows the maximum amount of space you want to use for the bin. The default is 5% of your C: drive’s capacity, and if you choose, you can increase that to 10 percent. You can also tell Windows to skip the bin altogether (and just delete the files), as well
as disable the confirmation prompt that pops up when you attempt to delete a file. Depending upon your needs, make the necessary changes. When you’re done making your changes, click OK. Uninstall apps you don’t use anymore. Open the Start Menu and select Settings >Apps >Apps & features. Search for a specific app or sort them by size to see which ones are taking up the most space. When you find an app you want to delete, select it from the list, and then select Uninstall. This is especially useful if your device was preloaded by the manufacturer with programs you rarely, if ever, used. Also, every time you have purchased a newer version of a program you pay to update … like Adobe Photoshop Elements— uninstall the earlier versions to save space on your hard drive. Remove temporary files using the Disk Cleanup Tool. Click the Start button, type: disk cleanup in the search bar or right-click a storage device in File Explorer, select
Properties, and click the Disk Cleanup button to the right of the pie chart. Depending on how much clean-up is needed, it may take several minutes to analyze and clean up your drive. A new window will list the items you could delete. Some boxes are prechecked, such as Temporary Internet Files, Downloaded Program Files, etc. Others you might want to research as to whether you should check their box. Since you cannot pick which Windows Update Cleanup files you want to keep – use caution in checking that box.
Update Cleanup frequently has several gigabytes of files you can delete, but unless you made an external backup image of your C drive first (highly recommended), checking these boxes and clicking the OK button will delete update files which Windows may not be able to roll back to the older versions of the system files that the updates have changed. It may make no difference to you; just note that those files, in particular, should not be mindlessly checked. If you are not a do-it-yourself type of user, or want a more

condensed way to clean up your PC, another option is to use a disk cleaner app like CCleaner that does much of what the Windows Disk cleanup utilities do: removes unnecessary or redundant files, cleans your browser, clears your recycle bin, temp files, log files, DNS cache, and other numerous clean up jobs. The interface is simple to use and is free: you can download it at https://www.ccleaner.com/ .
that enable Windows to access hardware components like the video card, printer, scanner, sound card, webcam, etc. Because you have to identify the hardware on your PC, the drivers, and version numbers, then go to the hardware manufacturer’s website and download the latest version from the download page, it might be simpler to use a free tool or app such as SlimDrivers Free or Driver Update your apps and drivers. Booster Free. They do all the work for you: they identify the Out-of-date drivers and apps current drivers, check if there can also cause the computer to run slowly. While Windows are updates for them, and then download and install them. updates are automatic, you should still go to Control Move and save new files to Panel> Windows Update an external drive or to Cloud and manually check for all Storage (such as Windows Windows updates because OneDrive Files On-Demand). only essential updates are If you have huge quantities installed automatically. There of photos, music, or other may be useful optional ones files that you want to keep available. Drivers are programs but don’t use very often,
save them to an external removable source, like a USB drive or to a Cloud Storage site like One Drive, DropBox, Google Drive, etc. You’ll still be able to use the files when the drive is connected, but they will not take up space on your PC. Connect the removable media (external hard drive, thumb drive, etc). to your PC. Open File Explorer from the taskbar at the bottom of your desktop screen and find the files you want to move. Select the files, go to the Home tab, and then select Move to>Choose location. Select your removable media from the location list, and then click Move.
Change where new content is saved. For each content type, select a drive from the dropdown menu. If the drive you want to use isn’t listed there, connect it to your PC. With Windows 10, you can also turn on OneDrive Files On-Demand: to save space. You’ll be able to get to your OneDrive files from your PC without having to download them all. Directions on how to set this option up can be found on the Windows website: https://support. office.com/en-us/article/ learn-about-onedrive-files-ondemand-0e6860d3-d9f3-4971b321-7092438fb38e?ui=enUS&rs=en-001&ad=US

DRIVE WISE AND BE SAFE
Nancy Hayden Council Member, District 2
Traffic and pedestrian safety are ever-present issues here in Sun City Grand, and our awareness was further heightened following the fatal pedestrianinvolved collision on March 30, which deeply affected our community. As time passes, I challenge you to keep safe driving top of mind and to avoid slipping back into old habits. The city also continues to focus efforts on road safety. So, what has the city done to address the issue? Our Police Chief Terry Young and his team held a Traffic Safety Town Hall in the Sonoran Plaza on May 1st, which I found to be very informative and educational. During the meeting, Chief Young shared statistics concerning traffic in Sun City Grand, and a panel of city officials took questions from the audience. Thank you to all residents who attended. I am very appreciative of all 58
staff involved in the Town Hall meeting — Sergeant Tim Klarkowski who served as moderator, and the panel consisting of Chief Young, Sergeant Mike Robbins, Public Works Director Mike Gent, and Public Works Assistant Director Karl Zook. During the Town Hall, Sgt. Robbins shared some resources with the audience, including the Police Department’s “Traffic Tip Tuesday” videos on their Facebook page, www. facebook.com/surprisepd. These bi-weekly videos share information regarding traffic and pedestrian safety, and increase awareness of trends the Police Department is observing related to driving patterns in Surprise. Additionally, the Police Department’s website has a wealth of information available to the public. I encourage you to visit their page at www.surpriseaz. gov/1606/Road-Safety. Finally, the Police Department has collaborated with the City’s Communications Department to create and implement the “Drive Wise, Surprise” campaign. These reminders were designed to create a culture of safe driving in Surprise, whether you are a resident or a visitor driving through the city. Of course, none of these efforts will mean anything unless we as Sun City Grand residents take a look at ourselves and
As always, I would love to hear your input and feedback. Give me a call at (623)222-1322, or shoot me an email at Nancy. Hayden@surpriseaz.gov. I would also love to speak with you in-person at one of my district meetings – either the 2nd Wednesday of the month from 10-11 a.m. at Arizona Traditions Neighborhood Center, or the 4th Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. at the Sun City Grand Palm Center, Mediterranean Room. Please note that the Surprise City Council recesses for the month of July, with regular meetings resuming August 7th. Although we will not be meeting this month, I encourage you to stay engaged! Thank you all for contributing to an improved traffic culture in Surprise. Be safe, and Drive Wise, Surprise!
re-focus our driving habits. Our vehicles can be deadly weapons if we allow them to be, which is why I feel it is important that we really stop and think about how well we know the rules of the road – do you know who has the right of way at an intersection with a four-way stop? Do you drive the posted speed limit throughout Grand? Even after all is said and done, I still observe drivers unaware of their speed, not stopping where necessary, and oblivious to their surroundings. On the other hand, I do want to thank each and every resident who adheres to the rules of the road, stops at stop signs, and follows the speed limit – thank you for your ongoing respect to your community and to yourself! It is easy to talk about all that is wrong with the traffic safety in Surprise, but the reality is that a safer driving culture begins with us as individuals.
