TESTIMONIALS PGCE DTTLS

Jennifer Newhouse

Carole Lucas The Diploma course experience has helped me to build self confidence and leadership skills while inspiring and motivating me to become a better teacher. It has been hard work to juggle a full-time job and studying, but it was the best move I have made in my adult life and I am really proud of what I have achieved and accomplished. The experience has made a real difference to my life in general and has helped me become more rounded as a person.

The PGCE course experience has enhanced my personal development beyond my expectations. I have new skills and the confidence to use them that go beyond the teaching and training setting, which have helped me to successfully apply for a new role. Through expert guidance from the tutors, I have stretched myself and found abilities I never thought I had, which in turn have sparked a desire to do more. I am now a coach mentor and look forward to supporting others to do the same.

HND Computing & Systems Development

The criteria is very broad and allows us to gain experience and knowledge in all areas of IT including Hardware, Networking and Programming. Jo Bowman, Student Finance Officer, has been highly supportive and has helped me every step of the way to organise my finances over the past two years.

Higher apprenticeships

Higher Apprenticeships ACCOUNTING

BUSINESS & PROFESSIONAL ADMINISTRATION

ENGINEERING MANUFACTURING

INFORMATION COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT)

The jobs market, as you will have heard or experienced, is tough these days. More people are competing for fewer job vacancies, making it more important than ever to make yourself stand out from the crowd. So what are employers looking for? Qualifications, definitely, but when you’re competing against other well-qualified candidates you’ll want to give yourself the edge, and a Higher Apprenticeship could help. The Higher Apprenticeship benefits students by equipping them with great qualifications. Higher apprentices study for work-based learning qualifications like a Level 4 NVQ. In some instances you can work towards an academic qualification like a Foundation Degree. Some of our most established and respected companies offer these types of courses. BGB in Grantham is just one of those employers, offering: ‘aspiring engineers who are keen to start building up practical work experience while progressing academically to graduate level.’ For example, the Engineering Technology Higher Apprenticeship gives apprentices the chance to study for an HNC or HND that can even lead to an Honours Degree and a professional qualification as an Incorporated Engineer. It takes three years to complete the course and could lead to a career as an Electrical Engineering Technician, entering the industry on a starting salary of around £19,000, or developing a career as an Aerospace Engineering Technician. HOW TO GAIN AN APPRENTICESHIP

HELP WITH FINANCE

Apprenticeships should not be considered an easy option, and there is competition to gain one. You will need the following:

Higher Education loans are available for students wishing to undertake a Higher Apprenticeship.

■■ The right qualifications and job opportunity (particularly for an Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship) ■■ To be aged between 16 and 23 years ideally – although older students can apply and be accepted for an Apprenticeship. At Level 3, the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan may be a better option for more mature students. ■■ An employer that is willing to take you on – although we can offer help with this in some instances. ■■ A willingness to learn and succeed, and a flair for the area that you are applying for.

For further information please contact our Finance Officer, Jo Bowman on 01476 400281. To apply for a Higher Apprenticeship or for further information please contact the relevant member of staff using the information below.
