Bro. Charles H.S. Lyons, III was born in Athens, Georgia and raised in Augusta, Georgia when his family moved to the community at the age of nine. Bro. Lyons is a graduate of Westside High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in political science from Augusta University. He is a 1985 graduate of the University of South Carolina Joseph F. Rice School of Law.
Attorney Lyons has been practicing law in the state of Georgia since 1985, and in the state of South Carolina since 1986. His legal practice consists primarily of cases involving personal injury, wrongful death, premises liability, and criminal defense.
Attorney Charles H.S. Lyons, III is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the State Bar of South Carolina, the South Carolina Black Lawyers Association (SCBLA), the Georgia Alliance of African American Attorneys (GAAAA), and the Augusta Bar Association. He served as President of the Augusta Association of African American Attorneys (ACAAA) for over ten years.
Additionally, he is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Bro. Lyons was initiated on the Charter Line (Omega Eta Chapter) of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. at Augusta College, now Augusta University, in 1976. He is an International, Seventh District, and Georgia State Life Member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Charles Lyons primary interest involves serving the community, which includes mentoring youth, volunteering for community projects, and providing legal services for underserved citizens.
Attorney Lyons was elected Superior Court Judge for the Augusta Judicial Circuit having won a runoff election for that position on June 19, 2024. He will take office on January 2, 2025. He is the father of two children, Charles Lyons IV, and Callie Lyons. He is married to the love of his life Dr. Von Pouncey-Lyons.
