The Sister Keeper Promise is a commitment to:
1. Never harm my sisters with words from my mouth.
2. Celebrate the successes of my sisters and encourage them to follow their dreams.
3. Show my sisters that I value peace and harmony in my life and discourage anyone from choosing to bring discord and drama into our spaces.
4. Always SEE and HEAR my sisters.
5. Keep Sister in Sisterhood because we need each other to survive.
Recognizing the impact of our individual actions on our chapters and our Sorority, we understand that one negative interaction can tarnish the collective spirit. We acknowledge that our Sorority's integrity rests on each individual's conduct. Therefore, we promise to exemplify our values, safeguarding the sanctity of our sisterhood.
We recognize the power of one soror’s influence and the ripple effect it can create. By pledging to discourage drama, avoid harmful gossip, and truly listen to and support our sisters, we affirm our commitment to preserving Delta's legacy for generations to come.
In embracing this promise, we take responsibility for our actions, understanding that each of us plays a pivotal role in shaping not only our chapter's future but our Sorority’s future.
Together, as 'One Soror, One Chapter, One Sisterhood,' we must be true to our commitment of closing our ears and sealing our lips to slanderous gossip, fostering a stronger, united Sisterhood. Scripture reminds us that “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined and a house divided against itself will fall” (Luke 11:17). This year as we celebrate our Founders, let us honor our founding principles and protect the legacy of our Sorority for another 111 years by committing to and earnestly honoring this Sister Keeper Promise.
A promise is a declaration or assurance that one will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen. Will you join us in making the Sister Keeper Promise for the longevity and sustainability of our beloved Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., was founded on January 13, 1913 by 22 collegiate women at Howard University. These students wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to those in need. In March of 1913, the Founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., performed their first public act. They participated in the Women’s Suffrage March in Washington, D.C. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was incorporated in 1930.

Name of Chapter: Augusta Alumnae
Original Name of the Chapter: Aiken/Augusta Alumnae Chapter
Date of Charter: October 14, 1978
Service Area: Richmond and Burke Counties
The Augusta Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Public Service Sorority, Incorporated was chartered to function in 1978. Prior to receiving this charter, Augusta Area members were affiliated with the AikenAugusta chapter. During this era, Soror Margaret Jones served as President of the Aiken-Augusta Alumnae Chapter. Delta chapters are assigned by our National Headquarters to geographical districts. Although Aiken, South Carolina and Augusta, Georgia are neighboring cities, Aiken is in the South Atlantic Region and Augusta is in the Southern Region.
Sorors Hertha Blount, Marie Johnson and Mildred Brown were instrumental in pursuing the establishment of the Augusta Alumnae Chapter. Their efforts and the efforts of others were rewarded when on August 29, 1978, The 16th National President Thelma T. Daily notified Augusta members of the approval of the charter establishing the Augusta Alumnae Chapter. Soror Daily officially welcomed the Augusta Alumnae Chapter to the Southern Region.
Officers for the newly formed chapter were installed on October 14, 1978 by Regional Director Kathleen Wright and Regional Representative Alexis Roberts. Many well wishes were exchanged between the Aiken and Augusta Chapters as each aligned with the appropriate region. The first President of the Augusta Chapter was Soror Geneva Stallings. Thirty-two (32) sorors were recognized as Charter members. The Augusta Alumnae Chapter immediately began to initiate public service activities, develop community partnerships, and remains respected for its vision and leadership.
