Obituary

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; ...A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; ~ Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2, 4

Gerald Gerard Grant, Sr. was born February 4, 1965 to Joseph Grant, Jr. and the late Reverend Ruth Hazel Grant Gregory. On Tuesday, August 15, 2023, Gerald answered a heavenly call and he departed this life, joining our ancestors who have gone before.

Gerald was educated in the public schools of Charleston, South Carolina. He was a graduate of Ben Tillman Elementary School and attended Bonds-Wilson High School. After receiving his GED, he was accepted into Nielsen Electronics Institute and received certification. As a young boy, Gerald also participated in the Boy Scouts.

Gerald was an expert tiler and was much sought after for commercial and residential projects. He worked for Murray Tile until the company closed and then, became a business owner for a short time, starting Phazelift Ceramics. He later worked at Snyder Events for more than eleven years prior to the pandemic. While at Snyder, Gerald received numerous honors to include becoming an on-site supervisor and lead for asset recovery - a position that was created, in-part, due to his concern for company property and his ability to recover company items that had been left at various sites.

In 1989, he met the love of his life, Anissa Ford, and they married on September 11, 1993. To this union, ten children were born.

Gerald accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and was baptized as a young adult. During his Christian journey, he was a member of Shiloh A.M.E. Church (Rivers Avenue), New Hope Missionary Baptist Church (Accabee), and Church of Christ (Azalea Avenue). Though he did not have affiliation with the Church for some time prior to his passing, he continued to study and instill the Word of God into his children & others.

Gerald loved fishing, dogs, collecting trains and cars, building miniature houses, and watching football, especially following his favorite NFL team, the Philadelphia Eagles, and his favorite college team, the Florida State Seminoles. He was also known as a good dancer and participated in many competitions around the Charleston area. While in high school, Gerald was a member of the marching band, for a short time, playing the tuba & sousaphone.

Gerald was preceded in death by his mother, Reverend Ruth H. Gregory; brothers, Joseph Grant, III and Marc Grant; and father-in-law, Mr. Willie Ford, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 29 years, Anissa Ford Grant; seven sons, Gerard (Alexandria) Reid, Shadavion Grant, Brandon Grant, Tyell Grant, Gerald Grant, Jr., Omega Grant, and Willie Grant; four daughters, Khailen (Shaquan) Johnson, Ashia Grant, Patience Grant and Faithen Grant; two grandchildren, Zachary Lane and Ryleigh Spann-Reid; two sisters, Reverend Millicent (Reverend Isaac) West of Hephzibah, GA, Leslie Godwin of Charleston, SC; two brothers, Wesley Grant and Steven (Cindy) Grant of Shreveport, LA; father, Joseph (Mildred) Grant of Virginia Beach, VA; two step-sisters, Stacy Grant and Tracy Grant of Virginia Beach, VA; mother-in-law, Reverend Betty Ford; three brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Gwendolyn) Ford, Willie Ford, Jr. and Kelvin Ford; a special cousin, Vina Daniels; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.

OurBelovedFatherandHusband

By the hands of God

you were fearfully & wonderfully made. Boldness, compassion, diligence, wisdom & integrity all encapsulated in your essence. As a child of God, you advanced in love because you understood that God is love and with great zeal, you sought after God’s own heart. You made it your mission to invest your time to the Lord in secret and went on a quest to be about your Father’s business. In many ways, you ministered unto your children, being unashamed of the Gospel was the beauty in you. With such authority & power in your tongue, you spoke the word of Truth - The word of Truth that gave your seed lifeand you planted therein and with time, the harvest bloomed. Like flowers in Springtime, never did it die, and in spite of all the trials and tribulations you faced, you kept pushing through the strength and diligence God gave you until the end. But He knew best and gave you rest So you'll not have to suffer no more of the earthly things. To Our Father in Heaven, we give the glory. He has never forsaken us.

So, in our hearts, we will forever be thankful for Mr. Gerald Gerard Grant, Sr., our beloved father and husband.

Much love on behalf of your wife and children. Yours truly,

Brandon

HeisGone(RememberMe)

DavidHarkins

You can shed tears that he is gone, Or you can smile because he lived, You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back, Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left. Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him Or you can be full of the love that you shared, You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember him and only that he is gone Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on, You can cry and close your mind - be empty and forlorn Or you can do what he would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

WithSincereGratitude

It is with gratitude that the family of the late Mr. Gerald Gerard Grant acknowledges your kind expressions of sympathy, acts of kindness, support and prayers.
