GYZ Pastor Anniversary 2023

Page 1

I greet you in the Name of Jesus!!! 40 years at GYZ!!!! It is hard to believe that so much time has gone by and yet I feel enthusiastic and energized as God continues to unfold His vision and agenda for this ministry as we seek to advance the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. This is the message Jesus preached (Matthew 4:17) and the message of preachers as we await His return ( Matthew 24:14). I am thankful to God to be a citizen of the Kingdom of God and our commitment to bring the culture of Heaven to earth.

Truly, we have come this far by faith and passionate about our purpose as a ministry in accepting the directions of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in carryout the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. I am excited as I have witnessed what God has done in this ministry. It has been 40 years of ups and downs, right and wrongs, struggles and victories and yet God has proved Himself faithful to us and proving to us that this is His Work and God, and God alone gets the glory!!!

Thank you, Rev Barry McCrary and the Brotherhood Ministry, for an outstanding and memorable banquet, and to my brother, Rev. Kenneth Gainous for a powerful message. I am thankful to Dea. Purvis Huggins and the Pastor Support Ministry for their work in our Climax Service. Thankful for my friend and brother, the Rev Clarence Moore and the Good Shepherd family for being our guests in this service. So thankful for all the pastors sent out from this ministry, associate ministers, Dea. Cody and the deacon ministry, trustees, Core ministry leaders, Rev Barry McCrary, Brotherhood Minister and Minister Winona Hatcher, GYZ Covenant Sisters, auxiliary leaders and the rest of our ministry personnel. Special thanks to the finest office staff a pastor could ask for in the person of Cheryl Parnell, Office Manager, Office Manager Emeritus, Sonja Stephenson, our Business Administrator, Rev Willie Hampton, Christian Education Minister, Rev. A J Saunders, Music Minister, Bro. Edwin Hamilton. I couldn’t have asked for better day-to-day office staff, and I do appreciate the hard work they do. Thanks to our Culinary Ministry Director, Sis. Carrie Cody along with our Media Ministry under the direction of Sis. Jynelle Handy and Security Ministry leader, Dea. Jeff Johnson. I am so thankful for everyone who are in this ministry, come through this ministry as God led them to other assignments, as well as remembering those who have transition during these 40 years. I dedicate this celebration to the memory of my beloved daughter, Candace, and my sister, Vera and to my beautiful mother, Ruth Sanders.

1 Corinthians 2:9 is inspirational to me as we continue to look forward to God’s unfolding agenda for our growing and developing ministry. To God, be the glory for things He has done, is doing, and is going to do. I praise and thank Him in advance.

The Lord and I are counting on you, William

Rev. Clarence Moore, a native of Greenville, Mississippi, is the illustrious pastor of Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. Rev. Moore came to Good Shepherd in 1983 as the assistant pastor to Rev. Essie Mae McIntyre. In 1986, Rev. Moore became only the second pastor in the history of Good Shepherd Baptist Church when Rev. Essie Mae McIntyre retired.

In 1977, Rev. Moore answered the call to preach the Gospel. In September 1977, he was licensed to preach at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Greenville, Mississippi, and was ordained to preach in April 1983, at the Antioch Baptist Church North in Atlanta, GA.

During his tenure as pastor of Good Shepherd, the church has experienced many positive changes and tremendous growth. Membership has increased by more than 4000. Many ministries and services have been established to respond to the holistic needs of the membership and the community. Under Pastor Moore’s leadership the church instituted the Preaching/Teaching format during revival, the Mini Congress/Revival, Saturday Morning Bible Study, Children’s Church, and an accredited Bible Academy.

Good Shepherd, with the dynamic and visionary leadership of Rev. Moore, is active in local, state, and national Christian growth activities. Pastor Moore’s past and current affiliations include Secretary, Augusta Baptist Ministers’ Conference (1984 – 1986); Chairman, Budget Committee, General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia (1984 – 2004); 1st Vice President of the 10th District (1987 – 1994) and President (1994 – 2004); Clergy Staff, Augusta University Hospital Executive Board (1989 – 1991); Assistant Treasurer, State Congress of Christian Education (1989 – 2003); Treasurer, State Congress of Christian Education (2003 – 2004); Chairman, Family Committee, Local Coordination Council (1990 -1995); President, Augusta Baptist Ministers’ Conference (1992 – 1994); and Co-Chairman, Augustans Together (1992 – 1996); President, General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc. (2004 -2012); Appointed Vice President, Southern Region of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc (Sept. 2009).

Pastor Moore is married to the former Patricia Sparrow, and they have one son, Clarence Joshua and one Grandson.
