About us

A

ccrington Stanley Community Trust is a non-profit, self-funding registered charity (Number 1139575) and community organisation that has been working within the Hyndburn community since 2007. After becoming a registered charity and re-forming as a Community Trust in 2010, the organisation has seen an accelerated rise and growth.

Accrington Stanley Community Trust was originally established under the banner of Football in the Community in 2007, with the aim to bring the professional club and their community closer together. Natural progression from Football in the Community resulted in the scheme being taken on to work alongside and under the guidance of the Football League Trust. Accrington Stanley Community Trust has expanded at a phenomenal rate and we now work in 4 key themed areas: Sports Participation, Education, Health & Wellbeing and Social Inclusion. Football and, in particular, Accrington Stanley Football Club has the ability to engage people, improve community cohesion and raise the hopes and aspirations of the people of Hyndburn. As a Club we are committed to ensuring that we respond to local needs whilst working strategically in line with regional and national agendas. We all recognise that sport can play a prominent role in addressing major issues such as obesity, anti-social behaviour, health, employment and attainment.

We know how important Accrington Stanley Community Trust is to the people of Hyndburn and what a great example it sets to youngsters. Every year is a challenge but we have a firm base here at the Trust. We have the talent and ability to make it even better and look forward to sharing that dream with you.

tanley Kickers is designed to cater for children aged two to four years old who are taking their first steps into football. They are parent friendly, child specific and provide an introduction to the basic skills of football. Each child works with their own ball and this enables them to learn to master ball skills from an early age. The sessions also use football as a means to achieve the following: • Improve body awareness, mobility and fitness. • Improve balance and coordination. • Develop initial literacy and numeracy skills. • Increase self confidence. • Build self esteem. • Learn to share and take turns. Our carefully planned programme is about a great deal more than just developing your child’s affinity with football, it is about giving them a wellrounded start in their physical, social and educational development and developing the ‘whole child’. Our structured sessions allow parents to spend quality time with their child, safe in the knowledge that they are helping to develop the ABC skills of Agility, Balance & Coordination. This approach ensures that children are learning to build the foundation of a healthy lifestyle and are

The classes are structured in such a way that parents are able to take away short activities to play with their children at home. We actively encourage you to practice at home, thereby promoting physical activity throughout the week and encouraging structured play. This type of activity forms a vital part of a young child’s development and lays the foundation upon which all later learning depends. Sessions follow a familiar format each week, as regular routines help children to feel secure and gain confidence. Children and parents also get the opportunity to

Organised holiday football coaching for four to 12 year olds

S

occer Schools provide school holiday provision for hundreds of children every year and offer young players the opportunity to learn, develop and achieve in the holidays.

Queens Road West, BB5 4BA

Established in 1997, our Soccer Schools program has grown to cater for children across the county, with each venue being carefully selected to provide adequate play and changing facilities regardless of adverse weather conditions, allowing youngsters to develop safe in their surroundings. Aimed at children aged four to 12 years old, Soccer Schools work in age-banded groups of no more than three years apart. This allows children to safely participate and the coach to accurately challenge and assess the needs of the player, under full supervision. Our development team has carefully put together course itineraries that cover a wide range of football related topics including, control, passing, dribbling, shooting, heading and match play. Our coaches use a variety of activities to allow children to develop, coaching individually or in pairs to develop technique and working in small groups to encourage skill acquisition and decision making. Every day, children will have the chance to practice in small-sided games and every course will finish with a tournament for players to showcase their new skills. Soccer Schools remain an affordable holiday activity; that provide the perfect solution for all young footballers and their parents.

Fun Days Benefit from having ASCT in your school for a whole day Day Visits are available to any school in Hyndburn. They offer the chance of a visit from our qualified team of coaches and are targeted for children working at Key Stages 1 and 2. Our coaches will take every class in the school for a fun session using football as a tool to develop physical literacy through a variety of fun games and disguised learning. Step back and allow our fully qualified staff to deliver a structured session linked to the learning outcomes of the primary curriculum. The session will also allow your staff to have the opportunity to observe the sessions and learn new fun games as part of their ongoing professional development. Every school in Hyndburn is entitled to a free coaching day, however, we do ask for a voluntary contribution, which enables us to continue our work within the local community and opportunities that we currently provide. We can also combine the Fun Day with either a Sponsored Penalty Shoot Out or Sponsored Inflatable Hit the Target event enabling the School to raise additional funds.

Girls Football F

ootball sessions for girls of all abilities aimed at increasing participation in the sport and raising the confidence of young people. There are 8 sessions each week in a variety of locations mainly schools for girls aged 11-18. Take part in a fun and relaxed environment with your friends.

The Premier League Girls Football Programme from the start of the 2016/17 season the programme is being delivered by 91 professional clubs who provide a wide variety of sessions aimed at different audiences. Nearly 9,000 girls have been engaged in the PL Girls Football programme since August 2015. Accrington Stanley aims to coach football to over 200 girls in the first year. Many of these girls had never played football before but now thoroughly enjoy the sport thanks to Accrington Stanley.

Accrington Stanley Female Football Development Officer, Elle Kayley explains how we attracted girls into the sessions who have never played football before ‘We found that a number of girls wanted the exercise element rather than just play football therefore we incorporated sessions concentrating on different exercises and stretches. We also delivered team games and races to boost the girl’s competitiveness and enjoyment.

The programme has two main objectives: To increase the number of women and girls playing football on a regular basis To increase the opportunities for women and girls to develop skills and confidence and progress within the pathway as a player, coach or official The programme achieves this by providing a fun and informal environment, allowing participants to progress at their own pace and make friends at the same time.

Accrington Stanley Community Trust

Community Manager Martin Fearon said ‘The Premier League Girls Football programme we run at Accrington Stanley increases participation in women and girls football, targets young girls to get more involved in the activities which we set out and also supports local grassroots teams by helping with recruitment. Overall the feedback we have had from schools has been very promising and the interest in female football has become more popular in our local area.’

This programme is free of charge for schools and sees Accrington Stanley coaches come in for the academic school year to girl’s football sessions. If you are interested in getting involved in the programme or would like any more information please get in contact with the Community Trust on 01254 304071 or email info@stanleytrust.co.uk

What is Premier League Kicks? The vision was to build safer, stronger, more respectful communities through the development of young peoples’ potential. It has proven successful, working with vulnerable young people which may otherwise struggle to join in with other mainstream activities. The programme helps guide young people towards leading a healthier and more pro-active lifestyle, using a relaxed approach. By adopting this method of delivery, it ensures Kicks can be pushed out in some of the most challenging and disadvantaged areas within various communities, including those of high rates of crime and anti-social behaviour statistics. By engaging youngsters in constructive activities, including a wide variety of sports, coaching, music and educational and personal development sessions, communities up and down the country have been transformed with impressive sports participation rates and the authorities reporting significant reductions in anti-social behaviour. The scheme has also enabled thousands of youngsters to find routes into education, training and employment.

and 85,000 personal outcomes achieved overall, including 5,500 educational qualifications. Following the announcement last summer of the partnership with Sport England, an extra 30,000 young people will be engaged over the next three years with a further 3,000 volunteers being trained. Kicks has gained an excellent reputation and its format and approach to monitoring have been recognised as a model of best practice by the Audit Commission. More about Kicks: • Delivered in partnership with many police forces • Funded nationally by the Premier League and Sport England, local funding is also required • It began with three pilot projects in 2006 • There are now 47 Premier League and Football League clubs running PL Kicks • In excess of 71,000 young people have been helped over the last eight years

The growth of Kicks has been phenomenal and today 47 Premier League and Football League clubs run a combined 112 projects across England, with 45,000 kids engaged in their local community in just one year

e are delighted to reveal the plans for a new community Sports Hub facility to transform Higham Playing Fields in Accrington.

Following months of careful planning the designs have now been completed and will shortly go in for planning permission with Hyndburn Borough Council. Accrington Stanley Community Trust have been working on this project since October 2015 and commissioned an in depth feasibility study which was led by a team of external consultants. Martin Fearon, CEO of Accrington Stanley Community Trust said ‘’we have been carefully designing the plans over the past few months to ensure we have the best possible facility to present to the Hyndburn community. We believe that grassroots sport needs more investment and we are hoping to play a big part in this by providing this fantastic project for our community. Higham Playing Fields is currently underused and based on the actual figures over the last 12 months there were only 6424 visits, which averages just 18 visits per day. The new proposals will see the Higham Playing Field’s site safeguarded for sports for many years to come and a vast increase in participation. This will become a facility for our community to be proud of’’.

The Sports Hub Building A brand new building will replace the current building. A fully functioning single storey structure made from a combination of brick and cladding to the exterior gives a welcoming and modern feel. Through the main entrance is a 50 seat cafeteria and breakout space for participants, parents and the general public to relax and enjoy hot and cold refreshments with leisure facilities and amenities. To the left of the main entrance is the practical area of the building which includes four FA standard team changing rooms, fully fitted with showers and toilet facilities, two officials changing rooms, first aid room and an injury rehabilitation area. To the right of the main entrance are two state of the art education suites available to use for a variety of activities such as education courses, meetings and workshops. Each suite caters for 30 people and is separated by a petitioning wall which can open the space up for 60 people. Also in this section are the Accrington Stanley Community Trust offices and meeting area.

The Sports Facilities A full size floodlit artificial football pitch is located on the lower section of the site and will provide a fantastic playing experience for its users. The pitch can be split into a variety of playing areas suitable for 5, 7, 9 and 11aside football. This state of the art pitch will

have protected use on evenings and weekends for local grassroots clubs and community activities. Alongside the floodlit pitch on the lower section is a full size grass football/rugby pitch with dugouts and seated areas. The top section of the site sees a multiuse grass area which can support a number of different football variations. All grass pitches will be renovated and brought up to a higher standard as part of the project. A brand new ECB standard artificial cricket wicket will be added to support the local mid-week cricket league and new schools’ competitions. A 55 space car park with disabled and coach parking spaces will be added to the site to ease traffic congestion on Thorneyholme road

What facilities will the Sports Hub include? The proposed facility is due to include a full size floodlit 4G football pitch, multiple grass pitches for football, an artificial cricket wicket, a rugby pitch and a community building which includes changing rooms, class rooms and offices for Accrington Stanley Community Trust. There will be a car park built on site which will ease traffic congestion on Thorneyholme road.
