Writing and Literature Learn to write stories, articles and poetry or appreciate literature with our Writing and Literature courses. They are suitable for all levels – whether you’re just starting out or are ready to publish your first book. Want a taste of what our courses include? The sonnet below was written by one of our students, Gillian, when asked in class to write a poem in a very structured format. About the poem and the exercise, Gillian says, “It enabled my mind to work creatively with the themes and emotions whilst giving me a very established structure to put the words into.”
Sonnet “All is fair in love and war” your Dad said
A dark silhouette on the Village Green
Too much love on show will bring us disgrace.”
A small voice asks his Nan what it means.
“We must carry on, put on a brave face.
I must live on, even though you are dead. All my dreams are gone, forever unwed,
An empty space at the table, your place.
My eyes blank behind a veil of black lace
Greets joggers, play-school Mums and passers-by She pauses, to tell the truth with a lie?
A shadow passed of all that might have been. But how to explain why he had to die?
Each new day of my life I face with dread; Don’t forget to ask us about fees and financial support
