The next Grapevine Chamber Membership Luncheon will feature a special presentation from James Olson, former CIA Chief of Counterintelligence, who will speak about his undercover career in the CIA. The luncheon, April 9, sponsored by First Bank Texas and catered by Love & War in Texas, will be at 11:30 a.m. at the Grapevine Convention Center. A special thanks to i5 web

works and ASDierolf Concrete, LLC for sponsoring this month’s program. In speaking about his undercover career in the CIA, Olson will share about how he was recruited, the training he received, the risks he and his wife who was also a CIA operative both faced, and the effect of this undercover lifestyle on their marriage and children. Olson will also discuss the role of the CIA in the current Global War on Terrorism and other current

issues affecting the safety and security of American citizens. There will also be time for Q & A at the end of the presentation. Born in LeMars, Iowa, Olson has bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and economics from the University of Iowa, as well as a Juris Doctor in international law from the University of Iowa. He is a member of the Iowa Bar, and he attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. Olson was a career officer Continued on page 2

Welcome to the 2nd Quarter of 2015 Time sure does fly. As usual, March was a very busy month at the Grapevine Chamber of Com merce. The Grapevine Young Entrepreneur Academy held their Investors Panel Event this past month at the Palace Theatre. All the students did an excellent job in their presentations, and I wish them all success as they begin to launch these new businesses.

Special congratulations to Jewel Burleson of Custom Dance Jewels who will be representing Grapevine YEA! at Regionals in Phoenix, Arizona, May 14-15. I also want to thank all our sponsors and volunteers for this program. The Chamber staff could not do it without your involvement. On March 19, the Leadership Grapevine class and other Chamber members took a trip to the Texas State Capitol for Grapevine Day

in Austin. I was allowed to tag along on this trip, and it was a great experience. We took a tour of the capitol and had the pleasure of meeting with Senator Jane Nelson, Senator Kelly Hancock, and Representative Giovanni Capriglione. We appreciated them taking time out of their busy schedules to speak with the Leadership Grapevine class. The trip was also a way for me to meet some Chamber members that I had perhaps Continued on page 3

Welcome to the 2nd Quarter of 2015 Continued from page 1 seen at other functions but never had the chance to get to know. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone in the Chamber just don’t put RaDonna in charge of the movie for the ride home. If you have any interest in participating in a future Leadership Grapevine class, please contact the Chamber office for more details. April is full of great events, but one I want to remind everyone about is the 20th Annual Great Taste of Grapevine. This event will be April 9 at the Embassy Suites - Outdoor World. Come out and enjoy food from more than 20 local restaurants, along with live music from the Justin Mason Band. All proceeds will benefit the Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Spirit and School Supplies programs. Great food Great music - and it’s all to help a great cause. It doesn’t get any better than that. Please check the Chamber website for event details and to purchase tickets. Speaking of great food and great music, Main Street Fest (formerly Main Street Days) is May 15-17, and it will be here before we know it. This is a big event for the Grapevine Chamber, and it requires a lot of volunteers to help make it a success. The Chamber is going to need help both in the Chamber’s Concession Trailer, as well as in its beer booth. Go ahead and mark these dates down in your calendar, and be thinking about when you might be able to volunteer. As we get closer to festival time, the Chamber will be emailing out volunteer information. I just wanted to go ahead and get you thinking about it. I hope to see you at the next Chamber event.

APRIL 11 Do you know someone looking for a job in the Grapevine area? Make sure they know about the 2015 Grapevine Job Fair, Saturday, April 11, 1 - 4 p.m. at Timberline Elementary School. There will be 48 local employers, with more than 1,000 jobs available!

The Job Sectors Include:

2015 Chair of the Women’s Division of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce

Here’s A Tidbit from our past as we celebrate our 50th Anniversary: “In 1973, Chisal Childs who owned the dance studio which is now the Landcaster Theater saw a need to help the less fortunate in Grapevine. She collected food and toys at her studio to give out. The next year she came to the Women’s Division and asked the group to take over the project. So in 1974 the Christmas Spirit fund was started with a $25 check from the Women’s Division to help those in need at Christmas.”
