Former Major League Baseball Player, Scott Podsednik, September 1 The Grapevine Chamber of Commerce is proud to have Scott Podsednik, Former Major League Baseball Player, speak at the next Membership Luncheon, September 1, at the Grapevine Convention Center, sponsored by Bank of the West and catered by Events by Chef Tyler. Scott Podsednik helped lead the Chicago White Sox to their 2005 World Series Championship by providing energy at the top of their lineup and by hitting just the 14th walk-off home run in World Series history in Game 2. He made his major league debut playing with the Seattle Mariners
in 2001. The Milwaukee Brewers acquired Scott in 2003 where he went on to be named Major League Baseball Rookie of The Year by MLB.com and was also voted National League Most Outstanding Rookie by his peers. In 2004, he led all of baseball with 70 stolen bases and earned the honor of being selected to his first All-Star game in 2005. Scott’s path to greatness in the world of Major League Baseball was not easy however. He languished in the minor leagues for many years, frustrated by his inability to fully tap into his potential as a player. How he
transitioned to the pinnacle of success as a professional baseball player is an inspiring story of grit, determination, resilience and absolute focus. Now retired and living in Dallas, Scott speaks to groups and organizations about the challenges and disappointments he experienced early in his career and the lessons he learned about what it takes to succeed at the highest level. Make plans to attend the luncheon at the Grapevine Convention Center, located at 1209 S. Main St. (at the corner of Continued on page 2
Get Involved with Your Grapevine Chamber this Fall! As school is well underway and we rapidly approach the holidays, I’d like to take this opportunity to extend a very big thanks to the Past Chairman’s Advisory Council of the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce for all of the work they recently put into the 3rd Annual Grapevine Casino Night held at Austin Ranch at Hilton DFW Lakes. Their effort speaks
volumes about the past leadership the Grapevine Chamber has enjoyed as these individuals continue to give back to the Chamber by executing such a wonderful event benefitting the Grapevine Chamber. These past leaders of the Chamber continue to give their time and talents, and for that, I am extremely grateful. Right around the corner is

It’s Coming! The 37th Annual
Grapevine Chamber Golf Classic, Oct. 3 The 37th Annual Grapevine Chamber Golf Classic, October 3, at Grapevine Golf Course, is just around the corner, and there’s still time to get involved. You might think a golf tournament is only for those who play golf. Well, you’d be WRONG!
Here’s all the ways you can be involved in the golf tournament: • Play in the tournament - Morning and afternoon teams still available, but we will sell out! • Be a tournament sponsor – Complete sponsor listings are below, but being a tee box sponsor is a great way to actually meet the players in the tournament by being out on the course! • Volunteer – It’s already confirmed to be a beautiful October day. So come and spend a morning or afternoon out on the course, meet some Chamber members and help us make the tournament a success!

Why Do Team Leadership Dynamics Matter? The Grapevine Chamber’s Business Insight Series continues Friday, September 23, at The Courtyard/TownePlace Suites by Marriot in Grapevine, with Sherrie Wilson, speaking on the topic, Why Do Team Leadership Dynamics Matter? There is a science to Leading Teams of people and it has to do with the conversations we use to leave others touched, moved and inspired. Team Leadership Dynamics breaks down these conversations, shares the elements of team dynamics and how to match your intentions with your impact. We explore using feedback and debriefing as tools to motivate teams and get the job done while leaving team members feeling honored and thrilled to be a part of your team. • Characteristics of a Leader • Science of a Leader Conversation (include fierce or difficult conversations) • Team Dynamics • Impact vs. Intent • Debrief as a Leader tool The Business Insight Series is designed for individual employees, managers or business owners who are interested in improving or developing their business skills. Check-in and registration is from 7:30 – 8 a.m. and the program is from 8 – 9:30 a.m. Cost is $25 for Chamber members and $30 for non-members. Register online at www.GrapevineChamber. org or call (817) 481-1522. Registration is required.

ALWAYS SEPTEMBER 29TH
Honors One of the World's Greatest Philosophers Born in China in 551 B.C., Confucius was one of the world’s first great philosophers. He was also a teacher, a scholar, and a politician of the Spring and Autumn period of Chinese history. He gave the world many teachings, and is credited with many famous sayings. Celebrate Confucius Day by learning more about this ancient philosopher, and share his teachings and sayings with friends and co-workers. Note: Quotes titled "Confucius Say" are often jokes using puns and double-meanings that are fictitiously attributed to Confucius. His name is used only to lend credence to the sayings of a “wise man.” But they are often just as fun to read and share.
