JoAnn Dowell Readers’ Choice Ambassador of the Year Webster defines ambassador as a person who acts as a representative or promoter of a specified activity. The Scoop would like to recognize our recent Readers Choice Ambassador of the Year winner, JoAnn Dowell. Decade after decade, Mrs. Dowell has worked promoting the Tennessee Walking Horse. She has received numerous awards in the industry due to her continuous support and generosity. Not only did The Scoop readers vote her Ambassador of the Year, but for the past two years, she has also received the Friendship Award from the Tennessee Walking Horse Breeders’ and Exhibitors’ Association.
Jo Ann Dowell congratulates Sue Ann on her win with One Bad Hombre at the 2011 Walking For Cancer show.
Jo Ann Dowell congratulating her daughter after winning the roses with I’m Mayhem.
If you know JoAnn Dowell, then you know she has a sense of humor. Avid Scoop readers will recall her horses’ ads in the past with the late Jeff Givens. She loved creating themed ads as she would give our graphic’s department ideas. She has turned Givens into Superman, Frankenstein, a football player, a beach bum, a casino player, and a navy sailor, to name a few. Her passion and love for the Tennessee Walking Horse was passed down to her daughter SueAnn Dowell. SueAnn began riding at the young age of three. The Dowell Family has had horses in the model, pleasure, and performance divisions. JoAnn Dowell continues contributing to the Walking Horse industry through her Dowell Family Scholarship and her breeding stallions located at Fantasy Farms in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. She is also owner of the reigning Reserve World Grand Champion, I’m Mayhem. Mrs. Dowell is looking forward to the 2019 show season as I’m Mayhem will be campaigned for the World Grand Championship under the banner of Rodney Dick and Finish Line Farms. In her spare time, JoAnn Dowell can be found doting over her new great-grandchild or watching Ohio State football, as she will proudly tell you she is the biggest Buckeye’s fan. Throughout the years, The Scoop has had the privilege of advertising for JoAnn Dowell and her many World Grand Champions and World Champions. She has become a wonderful friend, not only to our publication, but also to the entire Tennessee Walking Horse industry. Congratulations to our Ambassador of the Year, JoAnn Dowell.
