Marina Bay Sands

ArtScience Museum, Singapore

Period: 2007 - 2010 Contracting authority: URA Location: Singapore Project budget: $ 6.2 billion Architect: Safdie Architects

East Bayfront As a cutting-edge mixed-use development, Marina Bay Sands was set to become a unique entertainment destination with a great diversity of attractions and facilities. Many cultural venues and programs enrich the visitors’ experience: an ArtScience Museum, an Art Path, Jazz concerts, and numerous shows. The Marina Bay Sands ArtScience Museum is an innovative new museum for Singapore that will explore the links between art and science through changing exhibitions. The Museum’s lotus-inspired design lends a powerful iconic presence to Singapore’s waterfront. Lord assisted Moshe Safdie and Las Vegas Sands Corp. to plan this new institution and the exhibitions for the opening years. It opened in 2011.

Waterfront revitalization, Toronto, canada Waterfront Toronto is the largest urban revitalization being implemented in North America. The 23-hectare East Bayfront site will comprise 6,000 residential units and employment space able to accommodate 8,000 jobs. The area will be a hub for retail, entertainment and cultural amenities.

Period: 2004 - 2007 Contracting authority: Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corp. Location: Toronto, Canada Project budget: N.A. Architects: Foster+Partners

Lord Cultural Resources realized a feasibility study and the culture and retail plan for Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation in May 2005 with Talbot Retail Consultants. Based on that study, Lord has been engaged to complete a cultural and animation strategy in order to plan the introduction of the essential dynamism of culture – galleries, museums, performing arts venues – to Toronto’s waterfront.

West Kowloon

The Lowry

Cultural District, Hong Kong, china

Arts center, Salford, england This integrated visual and performing arts center was set by the historic Manchester Ship Canal, now transformed into the Salford Quays, a mixed-use area for business, residential and leisure activities. The Lowry houses two main theaters and a studio space for performing arts.

The West Kowloon Cultural District, a 40-hectare site on Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour, is slated for major commercial, retail, residential and cultural development, including provision for performing arts venues and museums on the site. Period: 2003 - 2004, 2004 - ongoing Contracting authority: GHK Hong Kong Ltd Location: Hong Kong, China Project budget: $ 2.8 billion Architect: Foster+Partners

In 2003 - 2004 Lord completed initial planning for the proposed museums, working with Foster+Partners and two leading Hong Kong developers to evolve a detailed plan, complete with financial projections, for the proposed Hong Kong Museum of Modern Art.

Period: 1994 - 2000 Contracting authority: The Lowry Location: Salford, England Project budget: $ 165 million Architects: Michael Wilford and Architects

Lord Cultural Resources was instrumental to the client in developing the original concept that focused on L.S. Lowry, and was responsible for planning The Lowry’s visual arts spaces. Following the development, the BBC chose Salford Quays as its new headquarters.

Riga

Contemporary Art Museum Riga, Latvia

Period: 2008 Contracting authority: The New Three Brothers Location: Riga, Latvia Project budget: € 18 million Architects: OMA Rem Koolhaas

Saadiyat Island Riga, capital of Latvia, one of the oldest cities of the Baltic States recognized as a UNESCO world cultural heritage site for its medieval and Art Nouveau buildings, has decided to widen its cultural offer by adding a Contemporary Art Museum, in the form of a renovation of the city’s first power plant designed by the worldfamous architect Rem Koolhaas. Lordculture was commissioned by the Latvian Minister of Culture to help make the project a reality and a success, first by defining an original concept, mission and vision statement for the future institution, then by elaborating operational, business and facility plans. The outcome of Lordculture’s input will be not only an exciting new contemporary art museum, but also the development of the first public-private partnership in the cultural field of Eastern Europe.

Cultural Master Plan Abu Dhabi, UAE

Period: 2007 - ongoing Contracting authority: Abu Dhabi Tourism Development and Investment Company Location: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Project budget: $ 4 billion Architects: Tadao Ando, Jean Nouvel, Foster+Partners

The city of Abu Dhabi has undertaken the world’s largest museum development project as part of an even grander Cultural District on Saadiyat Island. It is a huge project with a large residential component, multiple hotels, golf courses and an environmental preservation area. The northeast corner of the island will feature its Cultural District. Lord played a decisive role in programming and assisting the contracting authority of three out of the five planned cultural institutions for Saadiyat Island. Lord produced the master plan and facility program of the Maritime Museum and the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Lord is nowadays in charge of following the architect. For the Sheikh Zayed National Museum, Lord produced a master plan and conducted an architectural competition for the new facility. Lord was also asked to develop a governance structure for the Saadiyat cultural institutions.
