merican Document Services (ADS) already has the reputation of being the best place to get documents shredded, but now with three warehouses on 5 acres and a new 2,200 square-foot office building arriving this year, ADS wants to spread the news of the entire slate of their services. “We specialize not only in shredding, but records management, scanning, hard drive and media destruction, recycling, e-waste, and tape storage,” said April Tate, chief financial officer for ADS. A local family and veteran-owned company created by Rick Jackson in 2001, ADS is growing. Its more than 1,500 clients includes large organizations like government agencies and hospitals, as well as individuals residing in Las Cruces. Every month, ADS destroys more than 120,000 pounds of paper containing customer information that could lead to identity theft. ADS is the local leader in destroying protected health information (PHI) and complies with all Health Information Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA). Las Cruces Bulletin
“We’re known as the shredding company, but we do much more than that,” Tate said. ADS specializes in document scanning and storage. Their secured storage facilities are alarmed, with 24/7 video surveillance, and are climate-controlled with water and fire protections in place. Client’s barcoded files can be accessed at any time needed, day or night. ADS prides itself in providing the highest quality customer service and being a leader in information management practices and technology in offsite document storage and destruction. The staff is made up of professional, dedicated individuals with extensive experience in information management to give clients the service they require and deserve. With on-the-go services, ADS uses Fleet SAT for GPS tracking on all vehicles. This allows ADS minute-by-minute tracking for security of their clients’ files and documents. GPS tracking provides ADS 100 percent accountability of all documents once they leave the secured facilities. Fleet SAT also provides ADS the opportunity to plan its routes, providing faster and more cost-effective service. Every Tuesday and Thursday, ADS offers

ew to Las Cruces in 2016, Cherry Creek Mortgage Company’s first branch office was opened in Denver, Colorado in 1987. Its goal is to provide the dream of homeownership, as well as create a long-lasting positive impact on their clients. “I started with Cherry Creek Mortgage Company on June 1, 2016,” said Marcos Montes, branch manager of Cherry Creek Mortgage Company. “Although my team and I are fairly new with the company, we all have a long history in Las Cruces.” Montes said that the mission statement of Cherry Creek Mortgage Company is what originally sparked his interest in leading the new branch. “The mission statement talks about how we aspire to positively impact the lives of those individuals who come in contact with our organization,” Montes said. “We work with many people who are making one of the most important purchases of their lives, so it’s vitally important for us not to lose sight of that. “Homeownership, and the mortgage
for owning a home, is a big responsibility for someone to take on, so it’s equally important for me to have a team of mortgage loan originators that share that same mission. I feel that I have assembled a team who believes in that. Each one of my loan originators has a different personality, so they appeal to a large audience of borrowers.” Montes said all the team members are committed to helping buyers achieve the American Dream with practical solutions. It originates many types of loans, including First Time Homebuyer loans through the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority, which aids customers with down payments and closing costs, typically the largest burden for first-time home buyers. It handles Veterans Affairs loans for qualified veterans, renovation loans and reverse mortgages for both purchase or refinance transactions. Montes knows that flexibility of the Cherry Creek branch is also key to helping those reach for their dreams, especially when it comes to their time. “We try to make the application process as convenient as possible, so many of our

here are things you just can’t see on flat, two-dimensional plans,” says David Clarke, principal of WDG Architects. David and his wife, Wendy, became owners of WDG in 2015. Formerly Williams Design Group, the firm was founded in 2001, and David joined the firm in 2010. The Clarkes have built on the firm’s solid reputation, and help clients see beyond the two-dimensional plans, literally and figuratively. “We realize the value in building relationships and making every client feel respected and valued,” David said. “We can be educators and problem solvers,” Wendy added. WDG uses technology to enhance the client experience without leaving the client behind. Building Information Modeling saves money and time, but the way WDG uses it, the modeling also immerses the client in the project. Clients can visualize all aspects of the project before they build and see and direct redesigns in real time. The Clarkes have worked to create a
collaborative environment among the owners, employees, clients and technology. “David and I love working together,” Wendy said. “We’re best friends.” Wendy uses her 30 years of experience to provide clients with interior design, and also handles marketing. David brings more than 30 years of architectural experience. They have built a complementary staff and a vibrant culture. “Everybody has a master’s degree or is working toward one,” David said. “We have staff from all over the country and we hire people who want to grow.” “It’s an outstanding staff with amazing talent,” Wendy said. Named one of the top 10 architectural firms in New Mexico in 2015, WDG continues to strengthen and diversify its team and enjoys being part of the Las Cruces community. “Las Cruces has a lot of room for growth, but it’s small enough you don’t get lost in it,” David said. “The community work you do has so much more impact than in a bigger city, which is very rewarding.”

Dr. Craig Cannon, Interventional Cardiologist, and Marcia Hammons, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
New Mexico Cardiac Care
Setting the Standard for Heart Care
N
ew Mexico Cardiac Care (NMCC) was established in 1999 and has helped set the standard for delivering high quality cardiac services across southern New Mexico. NMCC provides a variety of diagnostic procedures including echocardiograms, nuclear stress tests, treadmill and adenosine tests as well as advanced surgical procedures which include interventional cardiology, defibrillators and pacemakers. Dr. Craig F. Cannon leads the team along with Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Marcia Hammons. He received his medical degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas and completed his residency and cardiology fellowship at University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque. He also completed an interventional fellowship at Albany Medical Center in New York. Dr. Cannon is the first and only interventional cardiologist in southern New Mexico to perform the Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO) procedure. This new, advanced technology is designed to treat totally blocked arteries in patients as an alternative to
bypass surgery. Dr. Cannon also performs Complex Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) procedures for patients who struggle with angina, and ongoing chest pain from blockages who are not candidates for open-heart surgery. The advantage of these complex stenting procedures is that they are less invasive and offer a faster, shorter recovery period than open-heart surgery. Dr. Cannon not only provides these procedures for his own patients, but also for the entire community, accepting patients from referring doctors and returning the patients to their doctor after the procedure. New Mexico Cardiac Care, along with New Mexico Cardiovascular Associates, is part of the Memorial Heart Team. “I am proud to be a member of the Memorial Heart Team,” Dr. Cannon said. Memorial is a Chest Pain Accredited Center with PCI. NMCC is a member of the Memorial Medical Center Las Cruces Physician Practices, a regional healthcare network providing compassionate, trusted care.

P
rompt care at family-care prices is among the benefits of a trip to Family HealthCare Center Picacho. The clinic is a part of the Memorial Medical Center Las Cruces Physician Practices family. Patients may make an appointment for a variety of healthcare needs and walk-ins are always welcome for urgent care services at the cost of a regular visit to a primary care physician. “The Picacho Family HealthCare team provides care that is as accessible as it is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely and efficient,” said Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) Candace Morales. “As a longtime employee of MMC, I have enjoyed being a part of an organization that is deeply invested in improving our overall community’s health.” The providers at Family HealthCare Center Picacho offer preventative, urgent and chronic care for the whole family. The center has on-site
X-Ray and laboratory services. The Lab opens at 7:00am and the Center opens at 8:00am and closes at 6:00pm Monday through Friday. Saturday hours are from 8:00am-2:00pm. The Power to Heal
T
he doctors and nurses at Memorial Medical Center Wound Care Center take a multidisciplinary team approach to wound care, with each treatment program tailored to the patient’s unique needs. Dr. Altaf Ahmed, Dr. Robert Mullan and Dr. John Ramirez specialize in healing chronic wounds caused by diabetes, poor circulation or other chronic conditions. A person who has a sore or wound not significantly better in a month, or hasn’t healed entirely after two months, should contact his or her primary care physician about a referral to the MMC Wound Care Center. “The most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing a smiling patient leaving the facility, having achieved the goals we have set together,” Dr. Ahmed said. During a patient’s initial visit, a physician will evaluate a patient’s wound and begin creating a targeted treatment program. Treatment plans include not only the care in the Center, but

The Wound Care team, under the leadership of Medical Director Dr. Ramirez, strives “to treat all with compassion and render care using advanced technologies in the safest and most cost-effective manner to achieve wound healing.” “Our contribution to the region and community is providing multidisciplinary, quality wound care to help heal wounds and change lives,” he said. The center has two hyperbaric oxygen chambers and a certified hyperbaric technician on staff to care for patients whose wounds will heal more quickly with oxygen. Treatment at the Wound Care Center may also include infectious disease management, physical therapy, vascular evaluation, laboratory evaluation, nutritional management, pain management, diabetic education, nuclear medicine, radiology and debridement.

Southern New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program
Nationally Recognized Regional Healthcare Program
M
emorial Medical Center looks to the future of health care in southern New Mexico with its Southern New Mexico Family Medicine Residency Program (SNMFMRP) (also known as the MMC Family Medicine Residency) and the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program. A residency program allows a doctor to continue their education in a specialty after graduating from medical school. Established in 1996, SNMFMRP’s mission is to develop and retain patient-centered, full-spectrum, board-certified family physicians and other health professionals who improve the health and well-being of the people of southern New Mexico. “I think the most important contribution the residency program has made to this community is that it trains primary care physicians for our community,” said Dr. John Andazola, Residency Program Director. “The residency program has graduated 88 physicians with 67 percent of those staying in New Mexico and with 39 individual physicians staying in Doña Ana County.” The Residency Program includes a Family Medicine Center clinic which provides a variety of services, including acute care walk-ins, adult care,
pediatric care, an adolescent care clinic, preventative care, diagnosis and treatment of medical and mental health problems, physicals and sports exams, minor procedures, and medication consultation. The Family Medicine Residency Program is also affiliated with the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and is accredited by both the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and American Osteopathic Association. The SNMFMRP’s three-year Family Medicine residency program is sponsored by Memorial Medical Center of Las Cruces, a LifePoint hospital. “A patient’s zip code has more impact on an individual’s health than does their genetic code,” Andazola said. “Therefore, for a physician to be most effective, they must understand the social circumstances that affect their patients. We are working hard in the residency program to develop these very skills in our physicians.” In addition, Memorial Medical Center sponsors the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program, a 12-month program to prepare its graduates to practice as clinical pharmacists in small and medium-sized community teaching hospitals and clinic settings or pursue PGY2 training.
