REYKJAVIK MAY 4–8 DesignMarch—Iceland’s annual celebration of architecture, interiors, fashion, industrial design, and more— is set to transform Reykjavik into a hotbed of fresh ideas. With five days of talks, exhibitions, parties, and tours, the festival will showcase the best of Icelandic design and welcome international names from Europe, the United States, and beyond. The DesignTalks series will return with the theme “Bright Ideas for a Brave New World,” and attendees of the festival will have the opportunity to view a cross-cultural exhibition organized by Seattle designer and founder of furniture manufacturer Fin, Darin Montgomery. Titled Hae/Hi: Designing Friendship, the showcase, organized around the theme of friendship and the exchange of ideas, will feature work from studios in Seattle and Reykjavik. designmarch.is

BERLIN DESIGN WEEK

BERLIN MAY 12–22 With the theme “Higher Purpose,” Berlin Design Week 2022 will examine the ways in which design can shape the future through social responsibility, digital innovations, and sustainable solutions. One of the event’s aims is to connect emerging designers with established suppliers, producers, and commercial enterprises, and the 11-day program will be packed with talks, panel discussions, exhibitions, screenings, parties, and networking events. Open Studio Nights are planned for May 12 and 13, with individual design and architecture studios opening their doors to festival attendees for tours, bites, drinks, and more. berlindesignweek.com

ICFF WANTEDDESIGN MANHATTAN

NEW YORK MAY 15–17 The International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), North America’s premier contemporary furnishings and design fair, and WantedDesign Manhattan, a trade event for high-end North American studios and international emerging designers, will return in person to New York’s Javits Center this spring. ICFF will once again offer programming that includes designer talks (highlights include Paola Antonello and Gabriele Chiave), the ICFF Studio (a juried competition to promote the next generation of design), the Oasis by Float Studio (a lounge where attendees can catch their breaths and charge their phones), and the ICFF Editors Awards (for which GRAY’s deputy editor, Rachel Gallaher, will serve as a judge). icff.com and wanteddesignnyc.com h
