The Boulos Company Chinburg Development, LLC purchased 40 Pleasant Street from Allison Street Holdings, LLC. The 24,237± SF building sold for $5,450,000 in a transaction arranged by Kent White and Caitlin Burke of The Boulos Company. The seller hired Boulos in 2023 to lease the second and third floors of the building. Within 6 months Boulos leased 100% of the building and after the Seller made modern updates where needed, while carefully preserving original details, 40 Pleasant Street was listed for sale. Built in 1860, the building attracted a lot of interest for its unique features, such as high ceilings, curved brick, and large windows. However, hitting the market at a time of peak interest rates made it hard for even the most qualified buyers to get financing. Visit http:// www.boulos.com

COAST will see its funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) reduced by $341,980 overall for FY24. The decrease is a result of changes in the calculations that determine apportionments coupled with increased growth in urbanized areas nationwide that outpaced overall funding increases. COAST operates in two urbanized areas (UZA) Portsmouth and Dover-Rochester, both of which encompass communities in New Hampshire and southern Maine. Due to changes in how the Census Bureau measures changes in population, 2020 UZA determinations generally shrank most urban areas across the country (including the two areas in which COAST operates), and frequently broke off populated chunks from what had been urbanized in 2010. “The total effect of these changes to COAST’s federal funding essentially negates a majority of the gains in FTA funding received under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” said Rad Nichols, Executive Director. Wentworth Douglas Hospital For the third straight year, WentworthDouglass Hospital has awarded a $10,000 community benefit grant to the Alliance for Community Transportation (ACT), a group that provides community transportation, largely for seniors and adults with disabilities, in Southeastern New Hampshire. Wentworth-Douglass awarded the same grant in 2022 and 2023, which allows ACT to access additional federal funds. ACT’s lead agency and fiscal sponsor is the Cooperative Alliance for Seacoast Transportation (COAST), but its work is primarily funded by Federal Transit Administration funds that are passed through the NH Department of Transportation. ACT must provide non-USDOT funding to leverage federal funding. Visit wdhospital.org.

The Learning Center at YMCA of Strafford County will Merge with The Granite YMCA of Somersworth Learning Center.

Plans are underway to merge two early learning centers of The Granite YMCA enabling future expansion and growth to better serve the Tri-City area of Dover, Rochester and Somersworth. On or about October 1, 2024, The Early Learning Center at the YMCA of Strafford County, located in Rochester, will be merged with The Granite YMCA of Somersworth Learning Center. All of the children enrolled at the Rochester location will be provided the opportunity to enroll in the Somersworth program without any gap in services. Moreover, all staff will have jobs to maintain their careers within the Somersworth Learning Center. There are no changes planned at this time for the Strafford County Y’s day camp or Before & After Care programs for Dover Middle, Garrison, and Horne Street schools in Dover, NH. Benefits of the planned consolidation include larger learning and play spaces, kitchen facilities with daily meal services, a welcoming outdoor space, and planning for future space to grow and serve more children and families. In addition to the early learning changes, wellness offerings to YMCA members will be discontinued at the YMCA of Strafford County as of September 30, 2024. Michele Sheppard, CEO of The Granite YMCA explains, “Sadly, after 14 years we have decided to discontinue our Wellness Membership and we will vacate our existing wellness facility. We’ve studied the landscape and found that there are numerous wellness opportunities in the area and so the need is being met. Of course, we welcome members to transfer their membership to another desired YMCA location.” Learn more about the merger HERE.
