LETTER
T
he “Dog Days of Summer” are here. Just a few months ago we were complaining about how the winter just would not give up, and all we wanted was some warmth upon our faces. Now that we have exactly what we wished for, all I hear at events is “it’s so hot outside.” Goes to show us all, “we the people” will never be content. We have to complain about something. Now, I will agree the humid days play a little havoc on enjoyment levels, but I will take the heat over the cold any day. Just think, the best season is just around the corner, and with August here, I know the amazing season of warm days and cool nights for the next four months are here too! Enjoy it while it’s here and DO NOT say to us come January, “it’s too cold”, because none of us want to hear it! This month celebrates the ladies of our scene, the Pin-Up. The Girls of Summer issue is an annual tribute to the history of the pin-up and the ladies who inspire us to fight for our way of American life. But, do many of you know where the “Pin-Up” name came from? It all started by men leaving for war and no matter where they were stationed around the world, the love of their life was “pinned” up in their military jeep, their tank, their airplane, or their barracks. The pin-up then was the motivation to live and to come back to America, and their love in life. Today, we celebrate the pin-up as more of a fashion style instead of the true classic meaning, but the trend lives. But guys, I want to challenge you. I get we all have cell phones and a million pictures we will loose over time, and never scroll through old photo albums like when family comes into town for reunions or cookouts. So, that said, we all know we can still run down to the local drug store and print out actual copies of pictures. It would be great to see us all go back to having our “girls” pinned to our sun visors in our rides. For that matter, we should have not only our gals, but if you have kids, they too should be up. I remember how kool it was to show off pictures from your wallet, or to see your parents carry pictures with them everywhere. Yeah, I get it, they are in your phone, but it is not the same. And, even the person who wants to disagree to just disagree will admit there is something special about those specific special pictures that made it to the wallet or better yet, the visor of your ride... This month, we have some great events ahead of us. The 5th year of Rockabilly Rumble returns to Southern Devil Harley-Davidson, Saturday August 11th with the Tremors headlining. This is a family event! We will host a car and bike show, plus host the Mommy and Me contest where mommies can bring their daughter or son up in a fun way and include the “next” generation of the Kustom Kulture. Slim and the Gems will be playing a set earlier in the day, and TK Drift Trikes will be hosting a Drift Trike Race, open to anyone. We even heard that Elvis is going to make an appearance this year!!! Also, happening this month is Wings and Whitewalls at the Aviation Wing in Marietta, Georgia. We are excited to be a part of this event for their inaugural year. Live music will include the Sideburners, Atomic Boogie, and Kitty Rose and the Rattlers. There is a special appearance by Captain and Maybelle. There will be a pin-up contest, and tons of photo opportunities with your hot rod and retired military airplanes. Later in the day, at dusk, we will be featuring a drive-in movie to wrap up this special occasion. All proceeds benefit the museum and the property. This is a great event we see growing each and every year moving forward. Make sure you place it on your calendar, August 25th. We will be hosting a pre-party at the Rusty Barrel on Saturday, August 18th with Cold Heart Canyon for an afternoon cruise-in beginning around 4pm, with music starting at 5pm. We will see you there! Make sure you follow us on instagram @greaseinc, will will be randomly giving away passes now until Hell on Wheels everytime we hit another 100 additional likes. Anyone can win!!!

"My modelling began at 15 when I was spotted for commercial agency 'Fresh Agents'. This lead to working with Speedo, School Leavers Jumpers and numerous varied college and holiday pamphlets. Whilst I enjoyed my commercial work, at 18 I left school and had the freedom to express myself. I took on and began representing a more alternative look. I was signed to Suicide Girls with my first set going Front Page. Before going on to do acting, music videos and TV commercials. I've been published in online blogs such as B-Authentique and Sticks and Stones. On the side, I'm also signed to two events agencies and work in sports and festivals. As well as this, signed to 4 extras companies specializing in acting and background roles. I am excited to be included in Grease Inc.'s Girls of Summer. Look for me as a featured Rag Doll, soon to be released in Grease later this year..."

The Vintage Fest in Anderson, NC • Timms Harley-Davidson
The Vintage Fest in Anderson, NC, at Timms Harley-Davidson was a great show! There were a lot of gorgeous motorcycles and awesome vendors to see. The music was great too, with Pearl Bottom Radio and Be It The Means performing. I had the honor of hosting the Pinup Contest for the gorgeous ladies and the adorable Minis! It's always fun to see what the kids come up with to say on stage! Needless to say, they were absolutely on point! Congratulations to the winners who took home prizes, including a photo shoot with Trashy Betty Photography and gift certificates from Harley Davidson. The awards were pinstriped by Billie Jayne DeVille and Charlie Tyre. I'm looking forward to several upcoming contests and hope to see you at them! -Buttercream Bettie

Traveling to... Here is a little teaser from our recent vacation in Cuba. That's right, Havana ooh-na-na to be exact. Though, we plan to give Cuba a complete feature in the near future, here is just a look from taking a little ride through the streets of Havana. It must be noted that we had an amazing time and walked away with an appreciation of everything Cuba has done right for themselves. This is the "Richest yet Poorest" country I have ever visited.

s we are approaching the last months of summer, it’s never too late to rock out some gorgeous tiki style. As a matter of fact, it’s always appropriate! The Dana Tropical Cherry Print Dress from Voodoo Vixen is a perfect example of one you need! This dress has the perfect cut and style to make you that tiki goddess you deserve to be. You’ll notice the pretty colors and pineapples first, and then all of the details. It has a cute tie on the chest and a wide v-neck. It’s very flattering and not too revealing; flirty enough and appropriate to wear at any event or outing. The Dana is sleeveless, but the straps fall just on the shoulders. It has a fitted waist with a pleated skirt that is very full, falling below the knee. It has hidden pockets, and you know we all love that! The material is very soft with some stretch to it, made of 95% Polyester, 5% Elastane. I am a hundred percent a fan of this dress! Ladies of all shapes will be able to enjoy it, as it is available in XS- 4XL. Voodoo Vixen really knows how to design some gorgeous clothing. They have a whole line of summer clothing that is full of high quality, pretty, and comfortable vintage reproduction items. They are definitely one of my favorites to feature, and I highly recommend them. They take classic styles and make them for modern women. Voodoo Vixen is based out of the UK, but available at shops and web shops all over the globe! You must heavily accessorize when you do a tiki look, in my opinion! Large hair flowers and chunky jewelry are always on my list! For this dress, I had the perfect flower that has green, orange, and red lilies and orchids mixed with a silver pineapple in the center. It’s made by Shazam Pin Up Hair Flowers. You can order custom pieces from Shazam or choose from the many styles in their inventory. You will love their quality and beauty, too! I also chose to stick with red, green, and orange in my jewelry. It is all from Bow and Crossbones. Cam makes the most gorgeous pieces. These items are Hazel and Imogen styles from the Fakelite range. I can’t get enough of their stuff! I mean, is there such a thing as too many accessories? Last, but definetly not least, shoes! It’s very important to complete your look with the perfect shoes. Sometimes I like to contrast and sometimes I like to pull the same colors from my outfit. This time I stuck with matching and chose green heels. They are from Bettie Page Shoes, the Layla style, very comfortable and also gorgeous! I love all of my Bettie Page Shoes; they are always easy on the feet and the eyes!

omade has been around since the mid – 1920’s such as Murray’s superior, and Royal Crown (originating in 1936). Dixie Peach pomade was popular with teenage boys in the U.S. from World War ll through the 1960’s. Nowadays we remember well groomed men such as Elvis, Frank Sinatra, James Dean and the Rockabilly Pompadours you see more often these days. Men are not the only ones using pomade anymore. Women are using pomade in their everyday hair rituals and grooming. Pomades come in all different types of holds, scents, colors, and textures. This makes it easy to use on all lengths and hair types when getting that nice smooth look to any hair style-design, texture, curls, while leaving a beautiful shine when the right pomade for you is used. Hairsprays, mouse, and gels can leave the hair feeling hard, sticky; sometimes dull looking, so pomades should be in everyone’s bathroom counter.
greaseinc.com | AUGUST 2018
I have been a Hairstylist for 10+ years and pomade has always been a strong staple in my styling products on both men and women, but more so on women now. Women of all types are using Pomades for sculpting that perfect victory roll, to texturing out that cute pixy cut. Recently I started using American Pomade and I just love this product. There is defiantly a trick to picking the right pomade for your needs, and American Pomade has nailed it, with their different holds, and easy coconut scent. As a working stylist in the salon, from on set and weddings I use a lot of pomade to shape curls, and maintain long lasting hair styles throughout the day. American Pomade's Wicked Slick, offers a light hold and is a traditional, wax based pomade. It works really nice for fine hair, or smoothing out a long beautiful curl without leaving a heavy oily look. Also great for taming those naughty fly aways. Ladies if you’re trying to get that tight hold while maintaining a smooth finish, a must try is Mortal Sin classic hold also water soluble. This hold is great for women with fine, medium textured hair. You can really get that tall pomp, smooth roll, or fabulous wave with this hold. Without making the hair look weighed down or greasy. Pomade can also give you that beachy, loose, on the go look as well ladies. Devils Clay is a Matte clay and with just a little dollop, run that from the ends to midsection of your hair and you’ll get that moveable feel while still getting a structured hold. Just a couple tips when using pomades. Start with using a small amount like a dime size and you can always add more. You cannot back track with pomade. You would need to wash hair to remove any pomade. Less is more. To get rid of those annoying fly aways, or hairs that stick out. Rub a tiny amount of the light weight water soluble really thin in your hands and lightly grace over your trouble areas, and spray with your choice of hold spray. So Ladies, Pomade is not just for male grooming anymore. Adding American Pomade to your must haves would be just a bonus to your beauty ritual.
