LETTER

I

cannot believe the end of the year is here. What seemed like a very slow start of a year, unfortunately ended way too soon. It’s almost at the point of not even being able to enjoy what little down time we do have to enjoy family just a little more. That said, I do get to announce the exciting news of being a Great Uncle. Wow! Life is changing for sure. My niece gave birth to a baby girl on my mother’s 72nd birthday. Though, I do not know when I will be able to see this adorable little one (they reside in CA), I can say that I am very happy for her and her family. This was a very special Thanksgiving “special delivery” for sure!

Now that the holidays are completely here, it is time to get festive and in the holiday spirit of things! At Garage71, we air some of our favorite holiday songs, including many of the songs no longer played on the horrific terrestrial stations. Throughout the season, we will have songs mixed into routine rotation with songs by Mojo Nixon, Rev. Horton Heat, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Elvis, and more. Every Sunday, beginning at 10AM until 8PM, we will play all your favorite “B” side tracks and true classics by Sammy Davis Jr, Dean Martin, and Frank Sinatra. This has become a very special Christmas tradition with us at Garage71 and Grease Inc. We hope you enjoy and share in this time of holiday cheer with by tuning in on any device. You can download from the google market, our google app, or download the TuneIn app for any apple device. Keyword: Garage71

As the year is coming to a close, the crew would like to invite you to come and celebrate with us as we roll in the New Year at Porterdale Bar & Grill. We will have live music all night long and will bring several party favors to enjoy. The crew will be celebrating at one of our favorite local watering holes this NYE with many good people we have grown very attached to over the years. The next weekend will be our celebration of the Ink & Oil Red Carpet Event at the Strand theatre in the square of Marietta. The date of the event is Janaury 6th, 2018 and the doors open at 5PM. There will be special Hot Rod and Classic Car parking at the front of the show. We look forward to a night of roasting some great people in our scene and industry. We look forward to a night of looking a little dapper and gals dressed to the 9’s. It’s not often all of us get an excuse to dress how we prefer, and enjoy a night out together with some awesome music, celebrating our friends and industry icons. This is where we will begin creating 2018 memories together. We look forward to hanging out with all of you on this very special night. For more information, go to garage71.com/events Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all of you from my family to yours. May the holidays warm your hearts and bring some amazing, good cheer. May your families and friends receive all the love and gifts that life can share. May you celebrate with the ones you love, creating new memories, while celebrating traditions of the past, or creating new ones to share for many years to come. We wish you a healthy and prosperous 2018... .

Dear Grease Inc., My name is Justin Roberts and this is my 1950 Buick Special Sedanette. I call her “Miss Betty” in honor of my late Grandmaw. She’s channeled down over a ‘77 Caprice frame. She’s got a fairly stock SBC 350 with a T350 sitting behind it. Owning a ‘50 Buick has been a dream of mine since I first saw one. I love her so much, I got rid of my truck and she’s my daily driver now. Thanks so much for checking out Miss Betty!!

The bobber is a 1978 Harley ironhead. The Harley was a frame off restoration/customization by Youngblood Kustomz. • Cut off the fender and brake mounts on front lower legs then cut some grooves in them on the lathe and then knurled them • Lowered front 5 inches • New black spoke wheels wrapped in white wall tires • Mini 5” headlight with a jeep fog light converted into headlight with custom made from ring • Nash motorcycle ape hanger handlebars to top off the front-end • New model sportster gas tank • Milled the middle of the rocker boxes, then chopped off and molded the lower cam case cover • Side cases power coated and then wrinkle finish the cylinder fins • On other side topped it off with some custom custard yellow metal flake spark plug wires that match the color off frame and tins. The tins were painted with Ed Roth custard yellow metal flake paint • The rear fender is a 1910 ford model a spare tire cover chopped down into a rear fender. The lower rear fender mounts are after market stereo speaker brackets. Took some square bar stock and heated them up and twisted them for a cool old school look • Back suspension we converted it to Harley air ride shocks to get the bike down low. • Every bolt was changed on the bobber to a stud with brass washer and chrome acorn nut • Gold drive chain to tight the brass accents all together • New old school seat with some clothes pin seat springs • Added some black braided oil lines with a custom chrome oil cooler and used a vw bug oil filter adapter for that external oil filter look • All work was done by Steven Youngblood of Youngblood Kustomz from metal fab, paint, power coat, hand made one off parts.

ne of the best things we get to do as a crew is travel. One of the best places to travel is always out west. The reason is we get to experience that are not the norm for a daily routine. From landscape to style, the west is far different than on the east coast. One show that stands out is Downtown Showdown. We were invited out to this past year’s event and were so glad to make the long road trip back down good old route 66. The unique part of this show is it’s a 100% traditional hot rod show. The customs hand built at this show took us in amazement. Tradition is by far the way these guys build. Even when bending the rules, it’s the approach and final results that give you a hand built custom ride with class, style, and attitude.

Take a look at some of the rides at Downtown Showdown. This is a show that we plan to return year after year as the streets of Albuquerque, NM close down several blocks for one heck of a party. Cecilia’s Cafe is in the heart of it all, and that’s for one great reason, Cecelia is the host of the event! We go to hang out and connect with some great people this year like Phil Rocker, the crew at US Kustoms, Bo Huff, Jr., Night Shift Kustoms, Joez Shop, New Mexico Hot Rod Company, and Built to Last. We have to give a shout out to Gary Aragon, the creator of the event. Check out some of the great rides and look in future issues for up coming features on many of these unreal traditional kustom rods....

isiting the local cotton fields has been on my list for a few years now and I’m so happy we finally made it! It was gorgeous and made for a great photo opportunity! I am so thrilled about the Margaret Dress in the Tulip Garden print from Karina Dresses! It’s a fabulous dress! This is my first time wearing a Margaret style and I do believe it’s a new favorite. I love the length that this one gives. It falls perfectly mid-calf for me. It has a crossover v-neck and a very full skirt. The sash is attached and it has a fitted waistband. This style is available in short sleeves or 3/4 sleeves. There are many prints available, but this new Tulip Garden is just gorgeous! I love the contrast of the red and green on the black background. You can also find it on other dress styles if you prefer a shorter length. This a perfect dress for the colder weather. Throw on a cardigan and boots and have a dressy comfortable look for the office or a day out. Throw on some heels and pearls with a long coat and have a dressy night on the town. That’s what I love about Karina Dresses; they are so versatile and always so comfortable. These colors are perfect for Christmas too! As always, Karina Dresses are made with love in the Hudson Valley, NY. They are consistent with sizing and quality, so you can always order with confidence. Women of all ages, shapes, and sizes will find great dresses to suit their needs. They are available in some retailers and online. Karina Dresses are made for all body types and sizes! The great thing about them is that they pride themselves on being a body positive company. They range in sizes 0-24. I promise you will find a style and print that you will love! I accessorized with red and green bangles in marble fakelite from Bow and Crossbones. I always love a classic combo of red and green at Christmas time! My brooch is a gorgeous new piece from JublyUmph’s Night Creatures Collection. It’s for a bit of good luck. Tasha’s art is amazing and it’s so fun to be able to wear it! My hair flower is courtesy of Shazam Vintage Pin Up Hair Flowers, in a beautiful Double Red Rose.
