y the time Grease Inc. hits this streets this February, I am not sure if we will be in shorts having backyard cookouts or back to unwarranted threats of blizzards ripping through the Southeast. Either way, I will take this warm spell we have been enjoying any day. I cringe knowing it is short lived with Mother Nature planning her all out assault before it is all said and done. Already, the crew has been extremely active in the local and regional community. From behind the scenes interviews, to countless editing hours in the video room during late night sessions, to scheduling the 2017 season, we have been pounding it hard in preparation for this year. We only wish we could share half of what’s in store for our readers and spectators, but that would take the excitement of anticipation away! The best way to keep up with us and all the great events we are working is going to www.garage71.net/events It was a great pleasure hanging with the crew of Hellbender H-D, Southern Devil H-D, and the new Tomahawk H-D at the Great American Motorcycle Show. Trust me when we say, we had a blast and how great it was seeing so many of our supporters. The holidays are a great thing, but now that the new year has begun, it is also just as good seeing faces that the winter times seems to hide until spring. This month is about love. The love of music. The love of cars. The love of our lifestyle. This
Publisher’s
LETTER month should also remind each of us to remember not only our significant other, but the families we surround ourselves with. Our community has a bond that only other lifestyles hope for. With that bond of brotherhood, comes responsibility to yourself, to your family, to your community, and to your country. Our country has gone through several challenges over the past few years. I see it as an opportunity to only strive to be better in all that I can have an affect on. I support my wife, family, and peers with no regard to consequence. I will also defend and show support for my country. I have been blessed with much in life. For this, I am grateful and humble when I say, I will only work harder to continue my journey in becoming a better man. We start out this month preparing for the first long road trip of the season to sunny south Florida for the Iron and Clematis Festival in Jupiter. If anyone wants to tag along, this is truly a vintage show you don’t want to miss. We, of course, are making plans for Bike Week and the Tropical Willie show. Many of us need some good ideas for the Valentine’s holiday, so come hang out with cupid and RadioFox for the Blue Balls and Frozen Hearts event with special guest Roadhouse on February 11th at Porterdale Bar and Grill.
We will see you this season... It’s time to Rock n Roll... @greaseinc #garage71radio

Buttercream Bettie ady V London has done it again! They totally knocked it out of the park with their new dress, The Ella Jersey Dress in Purple Floral. It is the perfect dress for the in-between season we are in now. It features 3/4 sleeves for the cooler temps and a soft wrinkle-free jersey material that will be suitable for when it starts to warm up again. The print is so gorgeous! The floral pattern boasts so many vibrant colors on top of the purple background. It has blues, pinks, green, and orange, to name a few. You will be able to choose many different accessories to wear with this. It’s an easy, no fuss wear, as it has no zipper. The bodice is fitted with a v-neck and it has a very full skirt! I love how flattering it is. This style is available in a few prints.

he crew at Grease Inc. has always tried to maintain a dapper look for all occassions, but it looks like Ural motorcycles and Nine Yard Designs have taken that to a whole level of dapper, grease, oil, and even a little metal thrown in. This one-of-a-kind Ural was led by the team at Nine Yard Designs to transform the Ural sidecar into both a barbershop chair and shoeshine stand. The project was started in support of raising money and awareness for the Movember Foundation. Progressive MC Insurance and Ural teamed up for this important campaign.

Motorcycle February 4th is World Cancer Day. We are asking all of our readers to simply go to https://us.movember.com/?home and get your Unity Band. Every purchase helps fund the projects fighting both prostate and testicular cancer. With the growing awareness of men's health challenges through great side projects like the Ural Barbershop Motorcycle, our community can get more involved in a way we are attracted to. Everyone knows someone that has been faced to fight cancer. This is a way to get involved.
To check out the Ural motorcycle, make a trip to Blue Moon Cycle, located at 752 W Peachtree Street, Norcross, GA 30071, an authorized dealer of Ural. John Landstrom, the owner of Blue Moon Cycle, turned us on to this amazing ride and we had a great time going back and forth with Ural, digging up information about this project. Who knows, maybe we can get the Ural Babershop Motorcycle to make an appearance at Hell on Wheels this year, and set her up by our mobile Ultra Lounge and Barbershop throughout the season. It's just one more way to bring attention to fighting a cause with meaning.

O
ut of the bowels of Dayton, Ohio comes a force not to reckon with. With roots planted deep in the world of psychobilly, The Loveless bring with them creepy-crawly antics and maniac approved hell-raising! Together for right at 5 years, the band has already shared the stage with many staples in the kustom kulture scene, such as The Surfin’ Wombatz, The Koffin Katz, Devil’s Brigade, and Nekromantix.
Despite the lack of a psychobilly scene in their hometown, these four friends forged a sound inspired by bands such as Demented Are Go, Mad Sin, The Quakes, and The Meteors. They have become a primary player in the mid-west’s psychobilly and punk scene. With their 2015 tour ending with their trailer catching fire, many thought it might be the end of the band just as they were beginning to create a name for themselves. With support from friends and fans across the globe, money was raised to replace their gear and their spirits renewed with a lust to hit the road again, keep performing, and to begin developing a new album. The following is the aftermath of my recent chat with Justin “Babs” Barbarino, Dick Gross, and Andris Devine (Bret Cottongim was away building log cabins for orphans in North Dakota and was unavailable to interview) fresh off their mid-west tour with Nekromantix…
Born Weird and Blazing Trails Across America
Reverend Andy: Why call yourselves "The Loveless" - any meaning? Justin “Babs” Barbarino: The Loveless name comes from a 1982 Willem Dafoe and Robert Gordon film (that goes by the same name) about a 1950’s American biker gang. I am sure most of your readers have seen it, but if you haven't, find it!

RA: What is your song writing process like? How do you get from nothing to complete song? Dick Gross: A lot of the song writing is done by Bret and Justin. Starts with some guitar licks then it evolves from there. Some stuff we keep and some stuff we add into other songs that are in the works and then some just don't make the cut. JB: Lucifer has sacred intercourse with a unicorn and the progeny are birthed during a blood moon when Venus is in retrograde upon the hallowed grounds of Stonehenge. We collect these unholy little bastards and sacrifice them back to the Fallen One himself. If he accepts our offering, he pens us a face-melter and we deliver his gospel to you folks. OR, we just come up with a riff or some lyrics and keep honing and polishing the tune until it's done. RA: You guys are huge fans of Nekromantix, what was it like being on the road touring with them? DG: It was an experience I'll never forget. I've always been a huge Nekro fan and it was crazy and still surreal to play with a band you've been listening to for over 20 years. There was a lot I learned from Kim Nekroman, both about bass and techniques to business with bookings and dealings around them. Lots of repairs to their RV by myself and Bret [Cottongim], earned us to become the official “Nekromechanix. Andris Devine: It was pretty much the best, even though there were a few bumps in the road, so to speak. All of us actually got along really well, so we all became fast friends and spent as much time together as we could. JB: First, we're out there opening for a legendary band that's been a big influence for all of us. Second, it was a LOT of fun. We had played a few shows with them before, but when you're hanging with those guys day in and out, it's like being around longtime friends... bad jokes, pranks, and drunken nights. Furthermore, it was REALLY amazing getting to play some legendary venues and new cities nearly every night, and play our music for folks who had never heard us.
34
greaseinc.com | FEBRUARY 2017
RA: How does it compare to going out on your own tour? DG: This was a whole different monster, bigger venues, bigger crowds and cities we have never had the chance to play. I did book a few shows for just us on days that the tour was lacking or got canceled due to the Nekromobile breakdowns. But overall the whole experience was amazing and look forward to the next tour with them in the spring 2017 JB: Well, first of all there was no trailer fire this time, so that's a big plus hahaha! Beyond that, other US tours we've done in the past pale in comparison. While this trip had some ups and downs, it was far more regimented and organized than anything else we'd ever done before. I feel that this tour was like the difference between playing in the minor league and then getting a call to come play in the big league. RA: Take a few words and compare the rockabilly/psychobilly scene in the US to the one in Europe. AD: The music itself is pretty different. For the most part it seems like European psychobilly
GREASE INC. MAGAZINE
35
is more like rockabilly, with clean guitars and mid-tempo songs. The US psychobilly scene seems a lot harder and faster with more distorted guitars. JB: As far as the United Kingdom goes, the first difference is age. In the US, a majority of the psychobillies are in their 20s and 30s (especially on the West Coast), whereas in the UK, most of those folks are in their 40s, 50s and even 60s. That is super cool because a lot of them are original Teddy Boys and have some really cool stories and gear. Musically, the US stuff has a split between punk-influenced psychobilly bands and more “traditional psychobilly bands, with cleaner guitar tones and stand-up drummers, etc. In the UK, the music generally is along the traditional side, with a big neo-rockabilly influence. Overall, I feel like the UK scenes are a bit more playful and not quite so serious, especially the psychobillies. RA: Who were the bands that inspired you to be a part of this subculture and create your style of music? JB: Nekromantix, Demented Are Go, Stray Cats, The Clash, Rancid, [and] The Exploited. AD: I listen to a lot of punk and metal, so my first exposure to psychobilly was when I first saw Tiger Army 15 or so years ago. A few years later I started hanging out with kids who liked Nekromantix and HorrorPops. DG: I'd have to say first and foremost the song "Child in My Dreams" by Gorilla started it all for me. But that was 20 years ago, and then I found bands, in no particular order, like Nekromantix, The Quakes, Mad Sin, Batmobile, Koffin Kats, Demented Are Go, Frantic Flintstones, and The Sharks. RA: What's in store for The Loveless in 2017? JB: Definitely writing, recording, and more touring. I am fairly certain that a European tour is on the horizon. Hopefully a return to the UK as well. Hiding out from the probable third World War... running from the Secret Police... you know, the new usual routine, hahaha! AD: Hopefully a new record and a lot more touring!
36
greaseinc.com | FEBRUARY 2017
RA: Tell me more about the upcoming new album. It’s time for another one to be released. DG: We are working hard on the next album, after this tour with Nekromantix it put us all in high gear to get it done. JB: I think we're going to have something out by summer of 2017. We're working on new material currently, and have probably about half an album's worth at the moment. We like to write organically and let the songs grow naturally, rather than write just to put out albums. With all of the traveling and gigging that we've been doing, it's slowed that process down some. RA: Let’s end with a favorite memory from touring. AD: San Diego when we played Roots Radicals and Matt [Freeman from Rancid and Devil’s Brigade] said we did a good job. DG: Matt Freeman was letting me use his cabinet, a fender 6x10, for the shows we were both playing. In Santa Ana, he asked me if I liked it, which I said yes because I've been looking at finding a 6x10. Well after that comment, Matt just said "After the show, just take it with you." JB: My first show with the band almost 4 years ago, it was held in a small bar in a small town in rural Dayton. I was wearing bleached jeans, creepers, a Mystery Addicts shirt (old glam-punk band from Dayton), a bullet belt, and guy-liner. Doing my best to look like Koefte from Mad Sin. I walked in and it was kind of like a scene out of a movie, everybody stopped and looked at me. I was convinced that I was going to end up in a shallow grave in a nearby cornfield. Long story short: we played, they loved it, everybody was actually really cool, and I didn't die that night, hahaha!
