e can’t believe March is already here! It seems like yesterday that we were sitting around at the Thanksgiving table discussing all the fun stories over the year as the season slowly wrapped up. Now, the season begins in full swing! Let us first start by saying how much we appreciate everyone’s support over the years. This marks the 7th anniversary to Hell on Wheels. It marks the unreal collaborations of so many great people like, Rev. Andy Hawley, Erin “RadioFox” Watson, the entire Rusty Nuts crew, Ms. Memphis Monroe, Buttercream Bettie, Scott Adams, Brent Cashman, Odd Todd, Stretch, Cori Shapiro and so many more! We have been amazed at the support and response to our efforts and look amazingly forward to another year working that much harder to bring you great stories, great interviews and new events to go and participate in while visiting and continuing to support some long time stays. We kick things off wide open this season in Daytona Beach, hanging out with our multiple of friends of the Chop-In Block. We will be set up at the Cacklebery Campground. It is even rumored after a year long growth, that “Big Boy” will be shaving his beard for charity at this event!!! The crew turns right around to make it back to kick things off locally with Thunder Tower West Harley-Davidson with a St. Patrick’s Day Festival with the King Daddy Polecats on the 14th. We will be hosting several cruiseins at our studio this season and look forward to the Kustom Kulture Art Show to start things off on the 5th of March with artists, Mikie Webb of Bonnie Blue Tattoo Company, Dave Attonito of Good Clean Fun Tattoo, Scott Adams Photography, Corey Sullivan of Norsk Studios, Guys and Gals Collectables and more! The Jack River band will be on MainStage at the Ale House. This is one way to kick off the season!!! We look forward to seeing everyone at some point over the season. Whether it is in our backyard or across state lines, the crew and family at Grease Inc. look forward to another awesome year… “lets get ready to ride!”

We look forward to seeing everyone at some point over the season.

s I sit here in an ice storm, it's hard to imagine that warm spring weather is just around the corner. No matter if you are the guy who turned the key off, parked your bike, and didn't look back, or you are the person who cared enough to add a little stabilizer to your gas tank, unhook your battery, and cover it up for the winter, there are always a few things you should do before hitting the road in the spring. The number one thing you should worry about is rider safety items. This means tires, brakes, cables, and lights. CHECK your tire pressure; most bikes should have 32-36 pounds of air, being a little low is a big deal. At 18psi in your front tire, your front end will feel heavy and stiff. Your tires will buckle in turns under the stress. Tread is equally important. When you check your air pressure, take a moment to inspect your tread for proper depth.

Poor tire

A quick glance from a distance might make you think you have time to ride it out, but if your tire is like the one in the picture A, you will run into problems when on the painted street lines or the slightest amount of moisture is on the road. Also don't forget to check your sidewalls for dry rot. Even newer tires can get split and cracked sidewalls from being parked for a couple months with little to no air pressure. Take a flashlight and make sure you have plenty of brake pad left on each side. If in doubt, change them. Brakes for most bikes cost between $20-$30; it's not worth the gamble. Take a look at the brake fluid levels in the front and rear, and you should be good to go in this department. It's always a good idea to put your bike on a slow charge if you

10

Good from a distance

didn't have it on a tender all winter. While you do that, take a moment to make sure all your lights still function as they should. Lastly on the basic list for getting your bike ready for the season is check and lubricate your cables. Pull your clutch lever and throttle while feeling for anything out of the ordinary, a little gritty feeling might be your cable starting to break. As always consult your owner's manual if you are unsure on how to maintain your cables, or any part of your bike for that matter. An hour of your time can save your life, or at least your wallet and ego, from sitting on the side of the road begging for help. You don't look as cool as you might think when you say you work on your own bike... but the damn thing keeps breaking down all the time. Keep it up and keep it safe.

tips n o i h s nd fa a y t u e are a w Be d n e week for the looking all to! d r a w r fo

22

GREASE INC. MAGAZINE | greaseinc.com | MARCH 2015

As April gets closer, I am starting to get excited about the viva rockabilly weekender. There is so much to do and see, with so much excitement going on, that it’s easy to lose yourself in all the hype. Therefore, I have found from experience, a few things that make it easier for us ladies! 1. D on’t bring tons of clothes. Two outfits per day is completely efficient. It’s pretty HOT, so during the day at the car show, high waisted shorts or a dress is perfect. However, the ladies always get quite a bit fancier after 7pm, sometimes even wearing vintage formals and over the top swing dresses with heels. 2. W ear your hair in a style easily transitioned to evening. Style it so that you can wear it one way during the day ,then maybe let it down and add a different hair accessory for the evening to change it up a bit. The heat might melt your hair if it’s not curled and set correctly (not actually melt, but severely mess up your “do”). 3. A pply sunblock and foundation primer first thing in the morning before leaving out. The air is dry and the sun is brutal. I can’t stress enough how important protecting your skin is in the Vegas desert. 4. S KIP the pool party in my opinion. It’s over crowded and ends up being a weird combo of people who have had too much to drink. (smh) 5. D o attend the burlesque show. I missed it last year and I will NOT miss it this year. So many beautiful costumes and performances! It’s a must see from what I hear… 6. G o to the Pinup Fashion Show! Watch all the gorgeous ladies modeling the latest vintage reproductions. Very fun atmosphere and a great chance to get some good ideas! 7. M ost importantly, ENJOY it! Don’t be afraid to wear the wildest thing in your closet! After all, it is Vegas, so anything goes!

first met Shooter at the 40 Watt in Athens, GA a couple years ago when Uncle Lucius was on tour with him. He was super personable and laid back. Actually came out into the crowd before the show to say hi. Not many rockstars do that these days! Which is kind of understandable, some fans are super fans who would fold you up and put you in their pocket if they could!! But, maybe it was just growing up with his dad being an "I don't give a f@*k, outlaw country" kind of guy, that shaped Shooter into being the guy that has seen and been around it all. I mean, he spent the first few years of his existence on a tour bus with his parents, surrounded by music legends like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson!!

I had to really fight back asking him questions I'm sure he's heard a thousand times... questions about his dad, and what he would give to be able to take the stage with him one more time, and what songs they'd perform together. Instead, sometimes, just listening and hanging out carries you further than the most intense interview. Fast forward to a Saturday night at 120 Tavern in Marietta, Ga. I came in with a gift for Shooter ( a shirt from S. A. F.). That always seems to break the ice a little bit. There was another gift

brought in a sparkly bag that he was looking for intently after he got off the stage, I can only guess what was in it... something organic is what I'm thinking. Although he seemed more concerned with the unknown gift, he carried the shirt I gave him over his shoulder for awhile, only moving it when he was asked to take a picture in an Anarchist hoodie he just bought. While on stage performing a new song, “Nashville From Afar, I noticed he and I had very similar tattoos, in pretty much the exact same spot, so I made sure one of the pictures we took, had his forty five and his 45 and my Derringer, courtesy of Mikey Jenkins at Memorial Tattoo, in it. We took several pictures, one with Nancy Kaye Hill from The Law Band and Trappers Cabin (who opened for Shooter) in it, and some I'll keep in my

super secret stash place called...Instagram. There were at least 18 people in the green room with Shooter and he was being pulled in so many directions, that I told him we would catch up in the studio next time. I've got that in the works, a more intimate look at a legend in his own making. Jon Hensley, I'm coming for ya!! And Shooter, I will see you very soon, my friend. With Love and Respect...RadioFox

Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes Ingredients: For the cupcakes: • 1/2 cup Guinness Stout • 1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperature • 6 tablespoons Dutch-process cocoa powder • 1 cup all-purpose flour • 1 cup granulated sugar • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda • 1/4 + 1/8 teaspoons salt • 1 egg • 1/3 cup sour cream

44

For the Jameson dark chocolate ganache filling: • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate • 1/3 cup heavy cream • 1 tablespoon butter, at room temperature • 1 1/2 teaspoons Jameson Irish whiskey For the Baileys buttercream frosting: • 2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar • 3 tablespoons Baileys Irish Cream

GREASE INC. MAGAZINE | greaseinc.com | MARCH 2015

1-2 minutes, and then stir using a rubber spatula until smooth. Add butter and whiskey, and continue stirring until combined. Let cool while you prepare the buttercream. For the Baileys Buttercream: Using the whisk attachment in your standing mixer, whip butter on high speed for five minutes. Reduce speed to low (unless you want to cover your kitchen and, ahem, camera, in a fine mist of powdered sugar), and gradually add powdered sugar until incorporated. Add the Baileys, and increase speed to whip for another 2-3 minutes.

Directions: Fill each cupcake liner to 2/3 full, and bake until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out completely clean, about 17-20 minutes. Remove cupcakes from pan, and allow to cool completely on rack. For the Jameson dark chocolate ganache filling: Finely chop the chocolate, and place in heat-safe bowl. In a small saucepan, heat cream until simmering, and pour over the chocolate. Allow to sit for

Assembly: Using a paring knife, carefully cut a cone-shaped hole about 2/3 of the way down into the cooled cupcakes, eating the removed cupcake centers as you work. Transfer the ganache to a piping bag with a wide tip, and fill the cupcakes with the ganache. Fill another pastry bag with the buttercream, and pipe onto the tops of cupcakes. Finish with sprinkles or decoration of choice if desired.

I By “Biker Chef Big Boy Brian Whitcomb, FMP, CCC

t has been a great pleasure to get to know this new addition in Old Town Buford. There is much rich history to this area many do not know about. Here is just a brief look at the property where the Ale House has chosen to reside. Bona Allen, Inc. was established in 1873 in Buford, GA. Millions of tons of leather have gone through its plants, thousands of lives have been shaped by its code; and yet today most people remember it primarily for its perfect employment record during the Depression, its championship semipro baseball teams and its original owners: the Allen family, starting with Bona senior and going down through his great-grandchildren. Founder Bona Allen, Sr., started the company in 1873 not long after returning from the Civil War. He picked up tanning from his father, Washington Allan, who individually tanned hides to supplement his farming needs. Washington used the crudes of methods, soaking and liming the hides in pits, unhairing them by hand and tanning them in vats of water and ground bark.

47

and

Early the Bonna Allen name built a reputation for fair play in business dealings and humane treatment of employees. People weren’t pampered, nor did they get rich; but the company would pick up a hospital tab in emergency cases and even build homes for employees, renting and selling them a very low costs. The company’s swift recovery from two devastating fires (in 1903 and 1945) attested to its business integrity since recovery loans were granted by virtue of the Allen name alone. Today, after a brief recent scare from news sources that the Tannery had caught on fire and burned to the ground, the Tannery Row actually stands tall and is home to a collection of artists, is the home of Garage71 Radio and Grease Inc. magazine, several multi-media businesses, and a great new pub, The Tannery Row Ale House. The Ale House opened this past summer in 2014 with a team of passionate people. They have spent a great deal of attention in renovations to ensure the unique and vintage appeal of the property has remained intact while providing an atmosphere of excitement. The location offers the biggest TV in the southeast and often provides entertainment of the best games, concert series, and fun entertaining premieres, like the Walking Dead. They play host to an array of activities including corn hole leagues, poker leagues, and fun themed highlighted events including the upcoming Country Jam on March 7th, featuring Laughlin

and Georgia Red Clay. But, let’s not stop there! With a unique setting and historical background, guests are even more excited with the creative menu and long list of local taps available at the Ale House. With the Georgia market continuing to grow in the micro-brew industry, the Ale House offers over 20 taps of craft beer. Recently becoming named as the home of the best barbecue, pizza, sandwiches, and libations on this side of the tracks! Their menu features modern comfort food inspired by the history & culture of our surroundings. The Tannery Row Ale House is no stranger to providing the guests of the Garage71 studios through collaborative efforts by providing Motorcycle Only Parking and an awesome setting for our weekly Cruise Ins that any hot rodder can enjoy.

50

This season Garage71 and Grease Inc. magazine look forward to providing music on the main stage at the Ale House on Thursday nights and playing host to an ever-changing collection of Kustom Kulture art from local and national artists. The Ale House is the perfect partner in a landscape of history and great hospitality. We look forward to seeing everyone out March 5th for the upcoming Art of Pin-Up and Tattoo Flash by featured names like Mikie Webb, Dave Antonio, Scott Adams, and Corey Sullivan. We will be hosting a cruise in with Jacks River on the main stage. The fun only begins here as for the rest of the season, the Ale House will be the place to stop by on the old town strip. Take a look at all their upcoming events as well as featured craft selections on the web at www.tanneryrowalehouse.com.
