o, I never thought I would be ever experiencing, let alone writing about, this next editorial. For one, it begins one February afternoon, with clear, picture-perfect blue skies. The temperature is a very enjoyable low 70’s. I am kicking back in my self-created oasis enjoying a cigar and 12 year old Single Malt. It’s about 3 o’clock on a Sunday afternoon. While sitting back enjoying the day with the dogs, I am smoking some pecan smoke pork butt and a MHL beer can chicken. Now, what truly is so special about this day is that we are celebrating our daughter’s 17th birthday. I can’t believe that day is here. My sunshine has become a lady. She is growing up. She is beautiful. She is smart. She is still young and she is full of life. I think about how much my life has evolved. I see so many folks with great families. We have gone from every night in the bars, to choosing what nights we go out, and doing our best to make them count, just like the good old days. You see kids learning how to build cars or play an instrument to be like their dad, but also, they have their own taste and style. It may be different, and I may not relate to all of it, but it is amazing just to be a part of it.

LETTER March kicks off the riding season is the south. Daytona’s 77th Bike Week is March 9th - 18th. Bike Nights across the Southeast begin here on March 1st at Timms Harley-Davidson in Anderson, SC. The luck of the green also bring us the infamous Killer Creek Harley-Davidson St. Patty’s Day party, March 18th with live music, tons of vendors, and green beer. It is the Atlanta’s motorcycle community’s St. Patty’s Day Party of the year! Grease Inc. and Garage71 share an old Irish toast, so raise those pints and let’s give a little luck to the kids this year at St. Baldrick’s. “May you have all the happiness and luck that life can hold — and at the end of all your rainbows may you find a pot of gold.”

I look at this kulture, you know, the riff-raff, and see nothing but great families. I am thrilled to see more of the hooligans successfully bringing up kids with morals, most of the time with less behavioral issues than those who are perceived to be well-to-do. Now, I know I am generalizing, but it appears that way to me, and I wonder why. My thoughts are: I believe we don’t take things for granted as much as others who seem to have it all. I know there is good and bad everywhere. Unfortunately, as a society, we seem to focus too much on all the bad, instead of the good. Not for me at this moment. I am content with how my life has turned out. It does not mean I am satisfied in life. I still have my own 17-year-old ambitions deep inside me. I will still act a fool, just a little less often. I will work harder knowing now that my sunshine is moving on to college, and I, along with the most amazing woman, will do everything we can to support her throughout her life. Happy Birthday Sunshine. May your life be filled with an everlasting life experience. May your travels never end. May you experience all there is in the world. May you settle down at the time that is right for you. May the wind always be at your back and the sun in your face. Spring is here and full of life. I learned this past year that I am about 68% Irish. Now, I have always joked I am a mutt. I have dark skin for crying out loud! I know through my ancestors, we have been through a lot. I often say how “we have been rape and pillaged” through the years, but I know it is meant to me as this is how I see us all today. To me it is a good thing. Good by the fact that I refuse to judge people by the heritage, but by their character. Each person is his own person. People brought up in the worst conditions can become the best, or vice versa. But, sometimes we are dealt hands in life that may not provide the best opportunities, or perceived opportunities. This March clearly shows me that. On March 15th, I will be participating in an event called St. Baldrick’s. Yes, it is a made-up Saint, but there is great meaning behind it. See, it represents the fight of cancer in children. This March 15th at RiRa Irish Pub, located at 1080 Peachtree St NE, (At Crescent & 12th), in the heart of Midtown, Atlanta, I will be shaving my head to support the fight! I am looking at raising a minimum of $1500 from the Kustom Kulture through a Go Fund Me campaign at https://www.gofundme.com/kustomkulture. Anyone who contributes over $50 to the campaign will receive a free subscription to Grease Inc. and be acknowledged in the April issue of Grease Inc. Our campaign funds are a direct deposit to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in California. Be a kid’s hero!!!

RISK stands for

Radiate • Influence • Support • Kindness

established in 2017 At the age of 20, I tried to commit suicide but luckily I survived my effort. Since then I have been searching for a great purpose in life. I am a individual that needs several tasks to keep my mind busy, to prevail over anxiety. After contemplating ideas of things to do outside of my barbering career, I thought of shirt designs and printing. During this time I was also going through a bought of depression and I began to write an online blog about my suicide attempt. I needed to write it down and get it off my chest but I didn't expect so many responses and comments. I came up with the idea to use my shirts as a promotion for mental health awareness. I have some amazing tattoo artist friends that jumped in to help design. RISK has turned into so much more than shirts. It has turned into a support group. It has turned into my inbox being flooded with heart breaking stories and stories of hope. My purpose and the purpose of RISK is to spread mental health awareness and self love. T-shirts have the capability to spark conversation ... so let's talk about mental health. RISK Liferstyle is a brand founded by Amber Jones to combine the creative minds of the barbering and tattoo trades. www.facebook.com/risklifestylebrand

ith so many hair products on the shelves these days, which one is the right choice? There are a lot of great gimics and product that are so over priced many fall prey to the misconception that it’s actually better. From the Aqua Net days of the Big Hair Bands, to the glue used to make the sickest mohawks, pomades back in the day were actually a simple product. Well, American Pomade, out of Penn Valley, California, took it back to the roots of pomade at today’s level of quality and standards.

GREASE INC. MAGAZINE

29

American Pomade is made from 4 simple ingredients; petroleum jelly, bees wax, coconut oil, and essential oil. They source their bees wax from Northern California, supporting local farmers and businesses. Every can is hand poured in a traditional tin. The outcome is a clean, true pomade that does not turn stiff and hard, or too slick. The Original Sin is the go to can for every day wear. It’s just the right amount of slick and hold while giving your hair the ability to still move around and be natural. You are able to style your daily doo to the level of your daily routine, while still running a comb through it later in the day to snap it back into your unique look without any problems. As the weather continues to keep warm, this is the best pomade for riding. As I pulled of my lid,

The super hold of Ultimate Sin is like Viagra for your hair, keeping you up all day and all night!

32

I ran a comb to slick back by hair and had it right back to where I started my day in just three comb throughs. I could never do that with many of the other brands out at our local shops because they turn hard... Ultimate Sin is for that bad ass hold when the ultimate pompadour is required. The super hold of Ultimate Sin is like Viagra for your hair, keeping you up all day and all night! You can order your American Pomade direct at americanpomade.com A tin will run around $13 and there is always a special... These folks know how to take care of their greasers and pin-ups giving everyone a free t-shirt on their first order . Local business is always the way to go! We will be working with American Pomade throughout the year, and even sharing hair tips for the ladies! Yep, you heard that right. American Pomade Company, “Real Greasers use Real Grease.
